As you should know, the word 'patience' and all words related are not in a cat's dictionary.

This is SO true.  Our cat Loki loves to wake my wife and I up WELL before our alarm does.  Why?  Because when she wants something, she's got to have it now!  There's a reason she was named Loki (god of mischief).  ;D

omg are you guys serious?
I mean I thought since cat were lazy they were like... well you know, very laid back and stuff not actually the opposite, I just thought dogs were like that.

And yeah I never had a cat in my life, I have dogs

Cats are a little like young kids... they sleep a lot, but when they want to play (or just want something), they can run you in circles. ;D Plus, the cliche is fact-based... cats are incredibly curious. (Well, mine is, anyway.)

I like all animals almost, though I prefer dogs slightly over cats. They're a bit easier to please. ;D

Also soo true (or so I've heard, as far as little kids are concerned).

/me sniffs at anything suspicious amongst his way (not IRL ofcourse).
IRL, my cats sniff at anything suspicious amongst their way.

Soo not true, with gatitio numero tres, sometimes you just have to stand next to her and already she starts purring to her heart's content. :-*

I had a bad experience with getting attacked by a dog when I was little. I'm not afraid of dogs anymore, but I'm still sort of wary. I mean, I hate it when dogs jump all over you, or lick you, or bark at you, and stuff. Cats rarely ever jump all over you (usually they just jump into your lap and cuddle), and they're all small anyway, whereas dogs vary greatly from breed to breed. Cats rarely lick you as well, and when they do they're not all slobbery. And a cat meow is usually a great deal less annoying than a dog bark. (Plus when a cat meows at a stranger, it's usually a nice greeting meow, unless the cat feels threatened in some way. Dogs bark loudly at everybody. :P)

Plus, cats rarely ever need baths, you don't have to let them out to pee, and they don't mind if you sometimes have to work a long shift. And they're very small, cuddly, and affectionate.

On the downside, they barf a lot, shed a metric ton, have to sharpen their claws, and always have to nose into everything.

Peace & Luv, Liz

I'm the same way.  I like all animals as long as they're not vicious.  Our family's never had a pet.  Well, my sister had goldfish when we were little, but that doesn't count.  Oh, and I think I prefer cats to dogs.  8)

I own a cat...

...  But I like both.  I'm allergic to cats, but bigger dogs, and louder dogs scare me.  Little quiet floppy dogs are great though.

Well, our cat is fat (but she's losing weight - we put her on a diet), she can be extremely lazy, but then she gets in these moods I can only describe as "sketchy".  She'll just start running around the apartment and then she'll start meowing in a corner.  I have no idea why.  She's so bizarre.  And she is VERY curious.

Cats never need baths, and gatito numure dos doesn't like the cat litter inside. And while you might not notice them minding a longer search, they have to get their daily dose of affection every day.

They only barf (inside)when they don't like their current situation, or they ate something that didn't go down too well. Sharpening their claws, that's what trees are for. :D And being nosey, I'm too, so that's no real difference either. ;D

Quote from: copycat on November 12, 2003, 02:08:15 PMYou know, they have special wooden things for cats to sharpen their claws on nowaday, if you don't have a tree at your disposal.

Yeah, I know. I even bought one. Unfortunately I didn't buy it early enough in his cat existence, so trying to get him to actually *use* it was impossible. It is possible to train a cat, but I just don't have the patience to do it. ;)

Quote from: copycat on November 12, 2003, 02:08:15 PMThat's just because a) we're too big to fit into a cupboard and b) we rely more on our eyes, wheras cats rely more on their smell. At least, that's my analyses. 8)

Actually, I think it's more the fact that cats seem to abhor closed doors. Like, I'll be in the bathroom, and he'll meow to be let in. So I'll open the door a crack and let him in. He'll then walk around, and then meow to be let out. So I let him out. He'll go away, then come back and meow to be let back in again! Augh! He'll pick his way into the closet and cupboards, get himself shut inside, and howl to have us let him out. And heaven forbid that I should have to shut my door when I go to bed because my roomie is still awake watching TV. I'll wake up in the middle of the night to Rainy scratching at my door and howling like he's been abandoned. Never mind that my roomie leaves his door open a bit at night, and he's just as soft to lay on as I am. Silly kitty. Rainy's adorable and loveable, but he can drive a girl mad! (Come to think of it, that sounds like every other guy in my life, including my roomie.)

Peace & Luv, Liz

That's gatito numere dos's routine. Meow at the outer door to be let out, and some minutes later be at that same door again (but at the other side obviously) and meow to be let back in. But it doesn't work that way in our family, so eventually she backs off.
Gatitio numere très is the quiet one. While you can see by the way she behaves that she'd rather be let out, she doesn't say anything. And when she's out, we have to call her to come back in when it gets (too) dark.

Gatito numer one's jpeg seems to have disappeared, so you'll have to wait a until its bitmap of more than 1Mb has been jpeg-ed and downsized again.

This is gatito numero dos:

Gatito one & three are much better looking though. 8) Also, one & three were/are the most useful, i.e. they catch birds (just to make sure Say keeps out of this thread permanently :D), whilst dos doesn't. :suffer:

The bird comment was really rude, my bird did have an "accident" for real, a f***ing cat attacked him and he lost his right wing, he cant fly anymore, sorry if i cant laugh at it due the fact I dont find it f***ing funny. And for the record I did mention this before so you know what Im talking about.

DOGS RULE!!!!!!!

I love dogs. I want a puppy. :) I don't *despise* cats but I am very much allergic to them.

Which sadly brings me to the further point of, oh no! Mike! You have a cat, crap!! Now I do have to get another place to stay for January...  :-\ I can deal with them between Claritin and a brief stay, but I definitely would feel crappy and have lost my voice by the end of a weekend. ::sigh:: Stupid allergies.

And stupid car parked across the street that I hit this morning that's going to drain my meager bank account even more....

I hate mondays.  >:(
Title: Re:*Pets*
Post by: mfortunato on November 24, 2003, 09:48:21 AM
It's one cat, Katie and I can make sure that the place is vaccumed, dusted and mopped.  And she's not much of a people person, so she'll most likely stay in our room or the guest room.  You may never see her.  We'll move her food dish into our room.  So it may not be so bad at all.  I don't know how allergic you are.  I have a friend who puffs up like a balloon as soon as he enters most people's houses who have cats, but he's ok in our apartment (well, he gets a little watery - eyed, but that's about it).

I was horribly allergic to cats.  My eyes would turn blood red and my skin would get irritated and become puffy and red.

So when I got the cat for my wife, I basically rubbed my face in her fur every day until my body stopped being allergic to her.  Now I'm fine :D

Not that I'm suggesting you do the same.

;D In case anyone doubted, Mike = awesome!

That would be very very nice of you! I am rather allergic, but as I do take Claritin everyday, and I've been getting a bit more used to them because my best friend's roommate has two cats and I practically live at her place. It's such a shame, cause they're so cute! But than darned dander, gr.

In shorter words, thank you and yay!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I dunno, sounds like an idea to me... ;) I'm slightly allergic, but my allergies are much better now. I used to sneeze as soon as I stepped outside, but now I can breathe again. ;D

Now, you DO know that some allergies can be treated by controlled desensitization, right? basically you just get injected with increasing doses of the allergen over a period of several months. It's better in the sense that the allergic reaction isn't that acute, and you don't have to go around rubbing your face into cats (unless you like doing it, which is a different matter)  ;)
