Title: What Inspired KQ?
Post by: TheReturnofDMD on December 16, 2006, 01:25:42 AM
Hey

Besides all the little fairy-tale and fantasy elements that inspired King's Quest, what else, what definable sources inspired the series? Especially the later games?

There are definitely a lot of references to mythology spread throughout all of the games.

A labyrinth dwelling minotaur (KQ VI) for example can be found in Greek Mythology. Though this could fall into the fairy-tale & fantasy category as well, but I suppose that's because many fairy-tales and fantasy stories draw inspiration from mythology too. :)

Well, as you had told me on IM, DMD, perhaps Roberta had watched Clash of the Titans, which apparently has creatures that are in KQ. Apparently the Baby Roc looks like the Baby Roc from KQV. (I still need to see the movie... XD I've heard so much about it from DMD, that maybe I should come out of my shell and try something new for once... I don't usually tend to watch movies that have old special effects, while at the same time, I used to play the old KQ games with the cartoon style graphics...) But I think that many things could have inspired the series... Although I don't know any of them... XD
