I honestly wish you luck, but I think you're about to find out just how challenging this sort of project is.

Why does the banner on your site have boats with "Chicago Park District" written on the side? What does that have to do with King's Quest? Are you going to change this?

Oh lol I see what you are talking about, that's the best template I have right now until I can design one keep in mind I just created this site a few hours ago. If you guys could help me out with this project it would be appreciated, plus I would make sure you got credit. Its going to have 8 bit 256 color graphics , no speech just text, midi music, and be able to fit on a 1.44MB floppy.. I hope.  :)

Edit: Right now I'm trying to learn how to use the AGS engine as this is gona be my first time making a game. After that I'll make a plot. lol, however for some people will love and hate this but Cedric WILL be in the game!

Post by: racx_00 on June 03, 2007, 07:36:28 PM
So it will only be a rather short game?
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 03, 2007, 07:40:25 PM
hmm Ya, my main purpose for making it is to tide people over while there waiting for TSL. ;)

Edit: I'll have plenty of time to make the game because I have summer off thus allowing me to work on it almost 24/7.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: racx_00 on June 03, 2007, 07:45:04 PM
I'd consider going maybe a bit bigger than 1.44mb. But it's upto you.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: Rosella on June 03, 2007, 07:50:38 PM
24/7 might be a bit unreasonable, but good luck. ;)
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 03, 2007, 07:59:36 PM
Well I might go 8MB. But it'll still have to be short. Cedric will be one of the main characters  XD. Anyways I already have the plot made [In my head] now I need to type it down! But the ending is extremely funny. Most of the scenes will be from from space quest IV and king's quest 6 and king's quest 1 remake from tierra. And the music? well it will be very funny to. ;D

PS: Anyone who will help me with the game gets to know the plot before anyone else does!!!

Will you be asking for permission to use scenes from other games?
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 03, 2007, 08:12:22 PM
Who will I need to ask permission from?  :)

PS: Check out my website again to hear game music.

Edit: It won't let me put music on website. It excedes music file limit. Can't post on forums either.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement

AGDI and Sierra. If you want to use scenes from their games you'd be best off asking them for permission.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 03, 2007, 08:54:38 PM
Ok I'll ask them I certaintly don't want to be sued.  :)

Edit: I e-mailed AGDI already for permission but I can't seem to find Sierra's E-mail, Racx_00 think you could tell me the address? :)

Not sure about an email address but they do have a contact form.

Haha, thats funny man. Good luck. AGS can do some sweet stuff (ie AGD Interactives KQ VGA remakes). Its scripting is fairly straight forward. I messed with it for a while not to long ago.  My advice is use their forums if you have questions on how to do stuff. You'll usually get a response in a few hours.

Check here for some midi from KQVI http://www.queststudios.com/quest/kq6.html (http://www.queststudios.com/quest/kq6.html).  If you aren't going to ask for permission to use stuff (cuz you won't get it anyway), your best bet is to keep it low key and then just release it when you are done as a simple "for fun" fan project. Otherwise you'll have the same problems this TSL had.

EDIT: You should check out http://www.dot.tk/ (http://www.dot.tk/) to give your sight an easier URL. I like dumb stuff like this, especially on projects just for fun.

Thanks for your advice man, I'm still looking for help on the project but so far no one emailed yet. I might have to cancel the project if im not getting the support and the help I'll need.  :)

Edit: I finally learned how to draw a back ground! I also decided to change the games title to King's Quest X: The Return of the Black Cloak Society, and yes that means I decided that it would take place after TSL, I also decided to use 16 bit 256 Color graphics instead of 8 bit. Although I'm horrible at doing artwork and I'm currently In desprate need of an artist. I'll probably be in charge of the music.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: robertk2 on June 04, 2007, 04:12:28 PM
In my opinion it looks better and is easier to work with if you set it up to 32-bit. THen you don't have to mess with color palettes. Resolution of 640x480 also looks a lot nicer than the 320x240 or whatever the default is.  I could help, but I don't know how much help I'd be. I have no artistic abilities as far as computer graphics go.

Post by: noaheugene20 on June 04, 2007, 04:19:55 PM
Well right now the graphics my game will be are set to VGA 16 bit 320x200. If you are willing to help me out please do so. Right now I'm looking for a VGA King Graham sprite set and a Cedric VGA sprite set from KQ5. :)

Edit: My new domain is http://www.kq9-game.tk

I have a couple suggestions for you...it's not a great idea to say "I want to have it released by August 10, 2008" when the game is only in the planning stages. Especially when you don't have any team members or anything written down on paper. Also, you'll create people coming by and trolling if you announce the project one day and within a day or two, you mention maybe shutting it down if you don't get any help.

Oh, and you might want to take the KQX out of the title, since TSL got into that stuff with Vivendi because of the KQIX in the title :)

Just a couple suggestions :) I do wish you luck. It's a huge undertaking and I hope you can get it out.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 05, 2007, 12:32:05 PM
Well the reason I had a release date made early was actually in hopes to stop trolling and encourage people to come and help me with the project. Although right now I'm taking my chances with the title King's Quest X: The Revenge of the Black Cloak Society, however If Sierra ever did request me to quit with the project I'll quit.
The game isn't really that big it's more like a mini game so I don't think they would care to much. I don't even have a group name let alone a company. But if things keep going as they are without anyone volunteering to help out [I currently have 0 people helping and I'm looking for an artist], I could very well cancel the project.

PS: If anyone would like to help in any way contact me by the e-mail link oil4u@verizon.net :)

It may be helpful to say a little more what you need help with, besides an artist. It sounds like you don't have much to go off right now. And...your profile does say you are 12.
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on June 06, 2007, 11:26:55 PM
Just because I'm 12 doesn't mean I'm stupid, I really dislike people who think there automatically better than someone who is younger . I'm currently working a lot on this project. I know I can do this project and no one not you or anyone else can say otherwise.  >:(

PS: Right now I'm looking for help in pretty much every category.  :)

I love this thread.

SEMICOLON ;

their/there/they're

won/one

It's like MadLibs.... find out where they go!

And good luck with your game.  Making games is a lot of fun, but it's very challenging to create something of quality.   Be vigilant, and attentive to details.  Use a dictionary and spell checker on your written dialouge as well, or I'll make fun of you for being an illiterate herb-monkey.   And no one wants to be an illiterate herb-monkey.

There is no grammer check!! There's only spelling check. And I'm very disapointed on how little help I'm getting on this project. If you guys think it's funny to troll me, then i'll laugh when I decide If I should hit the report moderator button. ;P ;P ;P ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

PS: I have not hit the report moderator button but if you guys keep trolling me I will.  :)

I'm very disappointed in the lack of any good reasons why we should help you. Show us something. Just saying you have an awesome idea doesn't mean you have one. It also doesn't mean that anyone else will find it as awesome as you do. People like to know what they're getting into and also like to like what they're getting into before they....get into it.

Seeing that Tribe is a mod, I strongly suspect that will get you roughly nowhere. ;P And what he says of the grammar check is true, I recommend copy\pasting your posts into word and then back out to benefit from the spell check, as I used to do.

And as a rule Noah, if you want help, be polite and try to give reasons for the person to help you. ;)

I'm better at grammer in real life than in forums, its just that I'm out of school.  :P

XD Noah, you may or may not know that I am "making" and adventure game. I know what I want to do, but it's a lot of work and I like to do other things, too. I've been trying to do this for like 2 years and I do have an idea and some work done. I even have music! I just can't get into it for long enough. I want to finish it (even as a short game) but I want it to be challenging.

I would want to know a lot more about this project. It sounds interesting, but there is insufficient information for me to make any kind of real judgement. I'm afraid I can't help you with this in any way. I'm completely booked for the summer. I've got work to go to, and I'm starting drivers ed, and I'm taking Physical therapy, and therefore don't have much (or any) time to help. I wish you luck, and keep at it. Don't give up. The key to success is determination and striving for what you believe in.

PS: My site has some new updates. Where can I find the VGA king graham sprite set and cedric VGA sprite set etc.?
I have made first game background, I made using windows paint. Please tell me what you think and if I should edit. :)

You could try the SCI or the AGI viewer for the sprite sheets.

'The King's Quest project

Unfortionatly this project was cancelled due to lack of help and support,  however I have a new project up an running called Space Quest 9.'

Though, if I may, SQ has 6 official instalments, not 8. :P And SQ7 is already in progress AFAIK.

XD Well thanks for trying noaheugene...Maybe it'd be better if instead of starting your own project you joined another? Such as the King's Quest IV remake?

Exactly! It seems like he's already interested in Space Quest, it's a good place for him to start!
Title: Re: Exciting Announcement
Post by: noaheugene20 on August 23, 2007, 02:18:25 PM
I decided to start with a space quest 9 project instead of king's quest 10 because the space quest fan community is very active compared to the king's quest community. The reason it's space quest 9 and not space quest 8 is because Space quest: vohaul strikes back is another project someone is working on which takes place after SQ7 thus making it technically space quest 8. Space quest 9's plot will include a lot of cameo and recurring appearances. The main enemy is not sludge vohaul but the jippazoid novelty company who sends two agents to assassinate roger wilco due to his crime back in SQ2. In this game instead of playing as roger wilco you play as his son roger wilco jr. who traveled from sq13 [a future sequel which is after the events of SQ12] to SQ9 to stop the assassination of roger wilco.
The game's engine is AGS with highly detailed 32 bit 800x600 256 color graphics. The site will be up soon and I'm already looking for help on the project in all areas
especially sprite animators and background artists.  :)

Edit: I have no talent as a artist or programmer but I am good at being a story maker for a game.

Pfff... be nice. Lol. :suffer:

noaheugene20, the one thing I've learned from working on projects is don't put all your expectations into receiving support and help from other people. One of the common reasons projects don't last further than when they were first thought of is that the creator did not have the motivation nor will power to do it alone. It is impossible to complete a quality project without internal motivation. In fact, I will go as far as to say internal motivation is the only motivation you should work with. External motivation, while a friendly gesture, is more toxic to your overall motivation than anything else. So if you take anything away from what I have said, take this...

Motivation should only come from you. People cannot give you enough motivation from support and help to complete a project like this. Completed projects got there off the motivation each member brought to the table.

If you know all of this, good. If not, keep it in mind. :) Good luck with your Space Quest game.
