Title: The TSL Memories thread
Post by: Petra Rocks on September 17, 2007, 07:05:35 PM
This thread is for memories of the past of TSL. Discuss freely the nostalgic memories you have on the past of TSL. Discuss the old websites the team has gone through, post archive links or screen shots, or share your own personal experience from the past. You can discuss the (almighty) :suffer: era, and old forumers, old threads that you miss (perhaps an alternative to reviving old threads?) and so much more! I'll start: I miss the :suffer: era! The time when :suffer: ruled the forum! XD So much good memories...

Okay, so that leaves Cat and me, since AFAIK, we're the longest registered team members that are still active, besides the team members of course. Quit the pretence.  ::) :P
We are the longest registered team members besides team members?  ??? I don't get it. :P

Hahaha, actually there is some REALLY old folks here!

Copycat I must say is probably someone who has been longer than Catherine? Not sure, and there's also very few that may not post as often but do keep track of everything that's going on as well.

There are some that they secretly just keep in touch by email, some others just by PM's

The truth is.... I have been here the longest! :P
I still remember white and blue forums... that was a loooong time ago!

White and blue, I'm pretty sure that was the first time I signed up then, BANG! everything was lost...

I could be wrong about that though.

I remember when the website was like that, but I never joined the forum then. I think I was too scared to join, I don't why... I remember seeing you guys mentioned in Computer Games Magazine, and that's how I got into TSL. I may even have the magazine still at home too... I would have to do some digging to find it. I'd say I've been here a fair amount of time, but I would admit that my activity has been pretty low. Then again, I do have a job and school to go to (and I just realized I have to write a school newspaper article and finish a poster for my club. Whew, I've got a lot to do... XD).

The story as goes it's that in 2002 it was a blue/purple/white website, it was rather large too. The forums had about 20 people or something registered? it didn't even make it to 40 and like 10 were like team members!!

Cesar and Richard used to post almost everyday. Cesar was indeed a spammer and a cheater! :P (He once made himself have like 40k posts by modifying his posts number manually!)

From there, 2003 (Me being in PR then, not Art anymore) we launched the website with the famous sounds :P. It was black/blue/gold color scheme. Then in 04 I believe? (or was it 05??) we launched this website with the black/red/gold theme.

Obviously everyone around here has been around 03 or so, very very few were really active way back 02.

Gah, I feel old.

The blue/black/gold one was in Feb 2004, and this current one was launched in May of last year. :)

But yeah, it's been ages since that blue/purple/white one.  I remember that forum being the only PHP-based thing on that whole website.  The rest was Perl. :X XD

Yeah, only few know about this whole idea way back then. In fact, the group started with like 3 or 4 folks working on this. I won't say names but I can tell you Richard and Cesar are pretty much the ones from that era. That idea started in 2000 with someone else on the lead. Sad to say, by the time it was 2001 nothing was said or done, there wasn't any team or anyone coordinating anything. It was an open thought and everyone pitched in as they felt like it (art, writting, etc). Obviously this situation lead to the current team back them not move forward. Cesar picked up the team in 2002, divided everyone in writing, Art, Programing, Music and Web. He hired a bunch of folks and way back then was the design phase of the game. The design of the game was done from pretty much 2002 to 2003. And then in 2004  it started full production moving out of "concepts" into "builds", from everything 2D approved to 3D made, and from having all those elements placed in an engine.

There isn't anything from 2000 to 2001 that was ever done. There wasn't even a single character profile approved, they only managed to write about 1 chapter and they didn't have a production nor design plan. That's why when Cesar took over and he shaped up the project in order to organize tasks and perform efficiently towards a design to move eventually into production, that was when this group was born.

There's a lot of story in this. From what TSL is about to everything we've been through for this.

Dealing with Vivendi was by far one of  the most challenging situations we've had to go through, but wow we've been through a lot. Any kind of sugary flavored drama.

Oh... all the stories I could tell you!

I still remember the very first website ever, it was dark blue with only 3 links and no forum!

I'm feeling nostalgic now! :)

When I first posted I didn't see Cat around, only Katie, and (of course) Say, and there was Storm too at that time. Not sure if there were many others. However, according to Cat, she wasn't posting at that time, so she may well have registered before me. Of Course, I'm REALLY old. I'm the TSL Grandfather! However, (especially) this forum keeps me VERY YOUNG (at heart). :D

I remember when the project got shut down the original project lead came on for only 3 posts. I'll leave out his name, for no apparent reason... XD But I remember the shutdown got a lot of new members, and a lot of talk going. And because of the community we grew, we got to bring the game back. That's when a big portion of the community we have today formed. At least that's as far as my memory serves me right.

You're right, that brought a lot of ghosts.

And I personally wouldn't say "original project lead". You'd have to have a project to lead it first, and have working team members to lead.

I do consider that group completly different from this group that emerged. Especially considering that everything that was/is produced in "The Silver Lining" came from Cesar's script and no one else's.

And to take this thread back to its original intent.... please apply :P

Well, I wanted it to go in General, but it doesn't really fit there.

Gosh, memories. I have so many! I remember one posting spree with James, Kimmie, Graham and myself. We would be IMing back and forth and just kept saying "replied to good" or "replied to your thread" etc. I think we shot up about a hundred posts each within an hour or two.

I don't have any recollection of what Yonkey posted, but I do remember the one Elessar posted.
BTW, the date it says I registered could be correct since at that time I received a mail asking me to confirm my registration to the 'Unofficial KQIX Forum'. However, that mail was the third sent to the address specifically created for KQIX (which has now been abandoned since it had serious issues with TSL Newsletter). Furthermore, I don't seem to have any mail sent to that address before that third one so I wonder what the first two were... Four Winds newsletters maybe?
However, I agree, apply you people, even if you don't get chosen I'm pretty sure you'll get other benefits coming your way, at times you least expect it, as I have.

Hahaha ...what the?! :o :P  But yeah, I know when I first was thinking of registering here, I wasn't sure if I would.  It really came down to how friendly and accepting the community was that made me into a post junkie and eventually a team member. :P

That's a huge jump for a two hour period! That's like 100 posts per hour... I don't even think I could pull something like that off! XD
I credit all of the sudden post count spikes to Haven, because of all the games that everyone uses to increase their post count. That's why they were invented in the first place... XD

I remember when I never visited the forum too much, and one day I went on and it said Silly adventurer and I was like "Oh sweet! I ROCK!" XD I love it when my rank changes! XD It's such a good feeling to know that you've accomplished a goal you've always wanted to. My goal now is to make it to TSL Groupie. Of course, I need a LOT of posts to do that... XD

Out of curiosity, what is the wayback machine? I know it's slightly off topic, but still... And perhaps we should move the disscussion of the old website into the thread I created, the TSL Memories Thread. And to stay on topic: Being a fannatic would definitely be cool! Well, do the best you can Yonkey. I think it would at least be good that people know what the thread is about...

And this the result of merging threads, I suppose. If only they could be manually changed.... Can you reverse the order?

Aww, PK, in two or three years you can share this memory with a new batch of forumers (hopefully the rest of us will be around to chime in too)!

Well I intend to stick around for a while! And I think my forum join date is wrong. If it says 2005, then I know it's got to be wrong... Because I know I joined before then. I think I joined in 2003 or something, but I'm not sure... But I remember I was at my friend's house one day, and he went on to TSL, and all of a sudden it was like all different! It had the introduction with the King Graham at the end of the video holding up a sword. I think that new site design was implemented either that day, or a few days before... I don't remember when though... XD

You're probably talking about Teaser 2 (http://www.postudios.com/archivedTSL/media/promos/teaser2/teaser2.html). 8)  That was done in early 2004 though, not 2003. :P

Yes, I believe it was that, but I also remember seeing the first teaser trailer on the old site. I'd have to check my profile to see when it says I had joined, because I'm confident that it wasn't 2005. I thought it might have been 2003, but I'm not sure. I can't really remember into the past all that well... XD

EDIT: I just did the math, and I realized I DID join in 2005... I now remember (though vaguely) that I had joined when I was in the seventh grade... It's been a fairly long while since then... But I have been following the project much much longer than that. I've probably been following since 2003 sometime...
