Weird poll...Just felt like making it. The desert spirit's voice is pretty messed up.

I voted the Boogeyman, though there was also that scary cave (can't remember what creature it was) in KQ4 where I kept dying 9/10 times. :P That's about 10 times scarier than the Boogeyman. :P

Woah...forgot about that...that's crazy. In terms of things that make you jump or are just scary, KQ7 probably has the most stuff though. When I was young, I was afraid to play in Ooga Booga alone, and the Boogeyman scared me senseless. I just think that the Desert Spirit's voice was scarier than hell...it's just messed up. The Boogeyman has an evil voice as I remember, too..

You must mean that awful KQ4 cave troll... scared the crap out of me every time, especially since I knew I was about to DIE. Definately the scariest in that sense. The KQ4 shark/whale get second place - gave me several mild heart-attacks and a lasting aversion of the "Jaws" theme  :P

The "random monsters" are scarier in general because they make you jump... the KQ7 boogyman is a bit different in that sense because you can hear him BEFORE he lands on you and can usually run for your life  ;)

Yeah...I just think the KQ7 boogeyman is scary for everything about him...he just looks peer evil. His music is kinda scary. He shouldn't be scary because you can run away from him 50% of the time, but he still is. It used to scare me shitless when he popped out and gave you no time to run (If you call the gravedigger and he's home, and if he pops up while you are reading the graves, he kills you automatically). But yeah...I don't remember the cave troll thing as well but I used to be scared of the ogre in KQ4...I don't know why. It's pretty funny when he like rips off your nose. Keep posting on this poll, but expect some more ones from me, too...

For me, the scariest things were the random monsters that come and attack you out of nowhere from KQ1 and KQ2.  I think they were wolves, evil wizard, witch, etc.  :o

Hmm, also the Blue Beast from KQ5 was kinda creepy.  :P

I voted for the boogeyman because I liked the piccie you attached of him on the other polls <3

The desert spirit's voice creeps me out. If I woke up in the middle of the night, and I heard the desert spirit's voice speaking to me in the dark, I would probably have a heart attack.

Oh I know...crazy voice...the random stuff in KQ1 is: Wolf (Not random, actually, always appears in same spot), Ogre, Witch, Sorceror, Dwarf.

I hope KQ9 has something that beats all of these...as KQ8 definately disappointed...there was nothing scary about that game. KQ just wouldn't be KQ without these things that jump out at you.

Trust me, KQ9 won't disappoint.  8) It's got a fair share of spine-tingling moments, and some of the artwork I've seen is just extreme! :o

Yeah...the only thing that sucks is when you are trying to cross screens in KQ1 (The Tierra remake, at least) and just as you are about to cross it, the ogre appears right in front of you and you can't turn around. I was trying to beat KQ1 without saving once, but this ruined my game.

Stuff that just pops out of nowhere and you don't expect it is scary...also settings are. Ooga Booga was really weird because it was the funniest area in KQ7 but it was pretty scary looking in places (Boogeyman's house, graveyard, stained glass area w/dog).

Adding to my last post...I thought that the scariest places were the dark forest in KQ1, the river of death thing in KQ2, the cemetary in KQ4, and the Boogeyman's house clearing/ the cemetary in KQ7.

...And the KQ6 land of the dead! all those pesky ghouls... took me several restores before I managed to pass those screens :o

Yeah KQ4 was the darkest...graveyard, ogre, cave, etc.

...Not to mention the night  ;)

Ugh... that KQ4 witch's cave was annoying as well, I got a little creeped out what with the eyeball being thrown about like that. :P

It was darkest not only in a literal sense (though there was certainly much of that!) but in mood as well - the ill health of both Graham and Genesta gave it a both a sombre feeling and a looming sense of urgency.

Yeah...but it is one of my favorites, too. There are like three happy areas...heh. The fisherman, the unicorn, and Pan.

Recently, I was playing KQ1VGA, and I accidently walked into the Dark Forest screen. As soon as I was there, I heard the Ogre coming! :o
Man, did THAT scare me... :(

Because despite my encounter, the Ogre's howse in KQ4 STILL scares me. :(

Haha, I always found it amusing in the KQ1 VGA remake to run around while the ogre is chasing you. But that's just me.


It would be alot scarier if he came out at you when the game scene is "nighttime"...I always was kinda jumpy during the KQ2 VGA remake (which is excellent) during the nighttime scene in the forest because I thought something huge would pop out at me. That whole nighttime part of that game is really well done.

I went with the ogre from KQ4... nothing is scarier or makes you scream at your monitor more than if you're not paying attention, make it halfway into the screen, then notice the ogre is lumbering your way... there's no escape, and THIS happens... I think that's pretty scary!!!

Ugh...freakin' Ogre. He still scares me. Last time I played, he was THIS close to nabbing me after I got the hen. :(

10.  Count Fi-fi-le-yip-yap.  For a whole different reason...that was just freaky.

9.  The Wolf, King's Quest II.  Jeesus, walk in and get a fright.

8.  Dracula, King's Quest II (depending on the version...he was more scarey in the AGD version); if not AGD then that lizard-thing in the cave in King's Quest VII.

7.  The Ogre from King's Quest IV

6.  The Boogeyman.

5.  The Dragon in King's Quest III

4. Mananan.  Every time he popped up and gave Gwydion that horrible look when he had some spell component it freaked me out.

3.  The Troll, King's Quest IV.  I don't like thing's I can't see. Makes it more scarey.

Basilisk? The gila monster? Anyways, the scariest KQ monster has to the the Boogeyman. He's just...*shudders*

The whole graveyard/nighttime parts in KQ2 VGA were pretty damn creepy. It freaked me out when the monk turned into the werewolf, too. Just crazy stuff. The Boogeyman still takes it for me, but just some of those parts in KQ2 VGA were good.

I think Mordack was, with all his demonic icons and status and such and such in his castle (which, btw, reminded me very much of HP Lovecraft's Necronomicon.

Yeah... Mordack was freaky. Did anyone else like his voice actor? Made him sound evil. Or I think he did. It's been a while.

But I'm going with the majority.
The Boogeyman popping out of nowhere. It was always so surprising when he'd show up. I don't remember... did he usually fall from the sky, come up from the ground, or did he do both?

The witch in 5 was also freaky because she'd just pop out of nowhere. I'm all jumpy. I don't like surprises.

In 6, the Minotaur was creepy when you'd get locked in that room and didn't know you needed a certain item before going into the catacombs. And you'd sit there... and Alexander knew something was coming... and then he'd die. Sadness, sadness.

It has to be the bogeyman. I first played KQ7 when i was about 5 years old (starting age of my King's Quest craze  :P) and i was looking around uga buga land and the music the bogeyman used scared the hell out of me i could'nt sleep for nights.  :'(

I suppose I would have to say the bogey-man like so many others. Of course it could be that at the time I was playing the game with a crappy mouse that sometimes decided to stop working.  >:(

The cave troll in KQ4 scared me every time.  Random, inescapable deaths like that frighten me more than any of the action games I watch my dad play.  Maybe that's why Freddy Pharkas gave me nightmares as a kid - too many timed puzzles of graphic (yet cartoonish) death!

The desert spirit (Farwalker?) was a little freaky, but I mostly appreciated him as a tragic character for whom you could feel sympathy.  Loved that cape, too!  I'd kind of like to see him in KQ9.

Probably the boogeyman for me. Another one would be the giant scorpion near the beginning of KQ7. That was pretty freaky the first time I played it, of course I was only seven.  :P

I agree. The thing with all the others is they can be killed. But the boogeyman belongs to the living undead and can't be killed.
