Title: Home page
Post by: kq1979 on November 05, 2009, 08:44:13 PM
So you want to be a game developer?

Too bad, the game is almost done, and we hope to be finished by May 2009!

Just a suggestion to update the main page of the site.

The game looks like it's gonna be awesome btw, and a giant thank you to everyone who has worked on it!

My point was that the page is obsolete.  'We hope to have something by May of 2009' is not inviting to fans or new guests.

That's the easiest part of this whole project, yet the website still claims that the game will be released soon....why not just update the freaking site already??  "Want to be a game developer?",  No... want to tell me what's going on with the game?????

It's okay if you say that the game won't be released for 2 more years....just be honest, update the site, and keep your fanbase in the loop!

Constructive criticism...I love what you are doing!  Thank you for doing it - everyone involved!!!!!

Rob

There are lots of people like me.....who have been coming to this site for years to see what is happening with this game.

It's encouraging when the site is updated, and discouraging when it's not.  And you don't have to have a fancy press release....just a simple: "We are hoping to send it to Vivendi by February".....or whatever the hell....that would do.  Update your site....what is the site for, if not to inform your fanbase?  It's probably the cheapest and easiest part of the whole project.

PS....it would take me about 5 mins to update the main page if you gave me server access to your website, and told me what to say.

Yeah, it is pretty redonkabonk that that's still up on the main page. Makes no sense.

Plus, it's also pretty frustrating when people keep telling us things like "Itll be released this summer," and "Itll for sure be released by the end of the year" and then when the time comes around just be like "oh our bad, but we're making progress!" It's almost december and not even word about being sent to vivendi, so im pretty darn sure it won't be done by the end of the year. I mean, I appreciate how hard youre working and how you can't ever be certain how long it's gonna take, but I think you should just stop ever giving projected release time so it's not so frustrating.

I think I'll check back on the site in a year and see how it's coming.

Recently, they have stopped giving firm release dates for this reason. They are working on it as hard as they can, but you must also remember that TSL is not a full time job. They are working on this game in their own freetime, and they aren't getting paid a single cent for it. Because of this, the time they have to work on it is limited, which is one of the main reasons why it's taking so long to make. They don't have the luxury of a development studio at this moment in time unfortunately, and that disadvantage has made the process of making the game long and hard, but they've endured, and they will continue to endure. They have been giving status updates these past few months, which has helped to keep the community informed, and they also have twitter and facebook pages. Their twitter account can be found at the following address: http://twitter.com/TSL_Game

The facebook page can be found at the following address:

http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?id=1240770836&gv=12#/group.php?gid=18272988760

If someone can come in and edit my post to make hyperlinks, that'd be great. I can't remember for the life of me how to do it.

Although there haven't been many updates on this site's main page, the twitter account has been announcing when new journal entries and status messages have been posted. When the game is nearing it's release twitter, facebook and the website will be updated to reflect that. It's rather counter-productive in my eyes to be complaining about the project in any way right now, but everyone is different. Rest assured that progress is still being made on this project, and that even though they haven't publicly stated much, they are still moving along. In the latest status report, it was mentioned that they have hit a significant milestone, and that all future milestone should not take as long to achieve. Have faith in the team. They are working as hard and as fast as they can right now.

Contrary to how I may have come across, I do have lots of faith in the team.  And I really wasn't trying to just criticize the game....really really just looking for an honest status update...that's all.  Again, thankyou thankyou to everyone involved.  I've been popping in here for years, very impressed with everything that's been done.  Just looking for an update because according to the site the game has already been released..again.

ditto to kq1979. Go ahead and take as long as you need on the game, I'm sure it'll be amazing. Just stop telling us it'll be released by this time and then back out of it... this has been done many times now.

Also, people keep telling me to go look at the twitter as if there's lots more on it, but there are only 6 tweets, only one of which is TSL-related, and is the same update that's on the news page. Am I missing something here? Am I on the wrong twitter page?
Title: Re: Home page

i was referring you to the twitter page because that's where most of the team's updates will be posted. i am responsible for updating and maintaining the facebook and twitter, and when any news is released, it will most certainly be put up there. When status updates were posted, they were not always announced on TSL's homepage, only here on the forum. for those that don't have time to visit the forum, twitter and facebook are quick places to look for updates. And to my knowledge, the team has only given general release windows, not firm dates. they had once announced a winter release, but due to a cease and desist that was unexpected, they had to shut down development for a time. when they were allowed to resume work, they had been pushed back development wise by quite a while. I imagine that by Christmas we'll be getting an update of some kind... The only thing we can do really is wait.

I just checked out the twitter page.  Very cool.  Haven't checked in for a while. so I figured I'd pop in.  Still no release date info on the main site like it says....but I'm kind of just being a dillburger.

That was my only real grievance.   :-X

There was release date info released on Christmas day 2008, when the final journal special was released. Obviously, it's now outdated, but the project is nearing it's release. I would say that 2010 is definitely the year that King's Quest returns. I don't know exactly when in 2010, but I would say that it's almost upon us...

I know, doesn't it? I truly believe that there will be a new found popularity for King's Quest, and adventure games in general, once TSL is released. And I have a strong feeling that 2010 will be the year that it all returns.

Hey, a fanboy can dream, can't he? Sadly, I wasn't really old enough to enjoy the popularity of adventure games the first time, seeing as when they were at their prime I was only in elementary school, if even. I'm only 18, but I grew up on King's Quest and other adventure games. The only way to be introduced to the adventure genre these days is to have been raised playing them. As much as I want them to be mainstream again, I suppose they never shall be. But, as I said, a fanboy can dream, and dream I shall.

You're probably right. They'll probably do like a special  25th anniversary edition compilation or something.  :)  Imagine how these boards are going to explode once the game is released!  It won't be the same 20 people posting every day anymore.

I remember way back in the day when these forums were crowded with people. That's when a lot of people got their post count up. The forums were bustling with activity, sometimes with a couple of hundred posters on at once. It was really cool. Sadly, that all declined to a few people. I'm truly hoping that the forums will explode with activity again, but only time will tell.

As for a 25th anniversary collection, I have a feeling that won't be happening. What usually ends up happening with adventure game licenses is that they sit on a shelf never to be used again. I doubt Activision-Blizzard will put the licenses to good use, but only time will tell. If they do release a new collection, I am totally up for it, and I'm hoping that they make them compatible for windows 7 and fix a lot of the bugs and compatibility issues. And maybe some extras, like making of videos from back in the day, interviews with the designers, things like that.

But I definitely think that KQ will come back in a big way in 2010, in part due to TSL. But, Sarien.net will probably play a part too. It continues to advance, and it's really pretty cool. I would suggest checking it out.

Anyway, I do believe that the forums will have a resurgence once the game is released, and I predict that 2010 will be a big year for King's Quest, and adventure games in general. Let's hope I'm right!

XD ROFLOL.

Seriously, just wait patiently. The team has been very busy lately and is working dilligently on completing this game. Sure. the website may not have been updated in a while, but at least the team is working on the game. Whenever there are any updates to the release, those will be posted in the appropriate areas. The team is also hard at work on a brand new website design, and that may be one reason for holding off on updating the site. And who knows; perhaps a new theme is right around the corner...

It takes time to update the website.  Time that could be used working on the game.

Would you rather have TSL or the TSL website updated?

haha.  jk.  but yeah,  just wait.  I'm sure when the game comes out or some time around then the site will be updated.
Title: Re: Home page

I think the site will likely be updated with a new design before or on the announcement of the release, and once the game is released, then the forums will see a massive influx of posters... Personally, I'm looking forward to a new design. I actually miss the old blue one... I loved that forum... But yeah, just wait patiently and you'll be rewarded. Patience is a virtue... And I'll admit that I even have trouble waiting for this game. I've been waiting for it since almost 2002 (I didn't join the forums until 2005, but I've known of the project since way before then) yet somehow I've managed to do it for all these years.
