Title: TSL Demographics Survey
Post by: oberonqa on March 11, 2010, 10:56:34 AM
The Save The Silver Lining Movement has created a short survey, the purpose of which is to gather data that will help identify the target audience for The Silver Lining.  This demographic data will be very helpful when it comes time to renegotiate with Activision.

Please take a moment to complete this survey.  Thank you.  :)

Good idea! That data will definitely be useful!

At a guess, I'd say they meant: "geographic region" but couldn't change it or something?? *can't view the survey currently so I have no idea if that makes sense*

The question has been changed to "What country/region do you live in (select the answer that is closest to you)?"

Thanks copycat!

I kinda answered this already in the other thread, but I don't see the harm in displaying the results once we get a decent sample size.

I have taken the survery to help out...

I just have a feeling that this might not be near enough.
I have a feeling that the target audience for this game, TSL, is maybe not young enough for Activision e.g. the TSL target audience will turn out to be perhaps in the 35-55 age range, or even older. There's nothing wrong with that pr.se - I just fear that Activision might want to sell the game to a younger audience, demand more action, not puzzle solving. This was the reason behind KQ8, I believe.

I do hope that I'm wrong, though...

Actually you would be surprised.  So far it seems to be the highest age group is the 25-34 age group, with 18-24 coming in right behind it.  These age groups are known for having the highest per-capita disposable income and are the age groups that games are marketed towards.

Also these 18-30 year range shows how much Kings Quest has stayed alive. My ten year old charge loves Princess Rosella, even went as Rosella for Halloween. This age range grew up on Kings Quest and we are now introducing it to the even younger generation.

I was thinking about this a bit more today, and I think it's best to not show the results publicly until after we've finished showing them to Activision.  The last thing we'd want is some other developer possibly swooping in, and an official KQIX being made with them instead.  It's unlikely to happen, but you never know.

If we were playing poker, this would be referred to as keeping your hand close to the vest so as to not reveal what you have prematurely.  If you have 4 aces, it wouldn't do to reveal that to the other players... otherwise they would all fold and you'd win a very small amount.

Keep the 4 aces hidden until the last minute... and you win a much bigger amount as the other players would be confident their hands are better than yours and therefore are willing to bet more...

:)

Ya! I can see that happening and let's hope Activision looses as their CEO is taking the fun out computer games making as we read:

A guy like this, needs to be fire!

I agree that not showing the hand (or the aces too soon) probably is a very good idea. The CEO of Activision needs to keep the company alive, so naturally, he is focusing on spending, and how to cut down costs. And yes, making video games is fun; however, we still need to remember that making a computer game these days also are work.

Yes I agree but for any games conpany's CEO making such statement in public isn't encouraging developpers!
