Title: Robbie Benson
Post by: The Fat Emu on March 08, 2004, 08:41:24 PM
First and foremost, I'd like to apologize if this has been brought up earlier. I looked around and I noticed that you won't be wanting Josh Mandel to voice King Graham, and I totally respect your reasons for that.

But I just want to know if any effort at all is being directed towards getting Robbie Benson to return to voice Alexander. Now, I obviously totally understand if you can't get him, because he wouldn't be as easily available (or willing, most likely) as Josh Mandel (not that you want him). I just wanted to say that although you have a point about Josh Mandel not being ideal, I found Robbie Benson to be perfect for the role. But again, I'll be totally satisfied without him; I just would like to know the reason if you don't want him.

Let's see...Yonkey, Alex?  Or someone else, Jeysie?  I know that you can't say, so I won't pry it out.  But am I close???  lol  ;B

It was someone who was at the NYC auditions (since that's where all the main parts were cast), so it's neither Yonkey nor Alex.

Actually, it's not really a secret... I know it's been mentioned somewhere on this forum before. (And that's not me being coy... I don't have any clue whereabouts the posts might be anymore.)

guessing time ; )

is it: Harrison??

No, it's not Harrison. Trust me, his voice just wouldn't work for Alex. He did get a part that his voice will work for, though. <3 (And no, I ain't saying which part before the team members do, so nyah.)

That's all I'm saying on the matter, before Cesar kills me or something. Do your own research! ;)

Peace & Luv, Liz

welcome to our forums Emu!

I believe Jeysie answered your question, no we don't particulary picked Josh Mandel for that part neither we are doing any effort in getting robbie benson, sorry.

not quite sure who are you asking for here? (about who we dont want?) we actually havent said publicly or officially from any part of the kq9 directive board that we didnt consider ever any of these actors, actually I believe at some point we did, the truth is circumstances have lead us to consider different real life actors which have auditioned and performed in great for main roles which suits us well for our final expectations regarding the game.

Also, Robbie Benson is now in his 50's and his voice wouldn't exactly fit someone who is supposed to be 21 years old.

Actually, I never thought his voice was right for Alex in KQ6, either.  I don't think he did a bad job at all, quite the contrary, I just think he was miscast.  And he was fantastic as the Beast in Disney's Beauty and the Beast :).

So sayeth the voice over director :P.

But I *will* tell you that the guy who's reading Alex did an awesome job and we rather unanimously said he was it!   !!!

I'm glad to hear it. Just out of curiousity, has every part been cast? And will the project likely be finished by the rather vague "2004" date?

But I'm sorry, I'm getting quite off-topic.

I haven't heard him lately myself... but his voice did fit someone who is supposed to be 21 years old when he was in his 40's  ;)

Regarding your first question, not yet, thats why we have online auditions.

about the second one, there is no official date we can guarantee this release, so my sugestion is, if you dont hear it from a director per se, its a speculation. There are no details yet on this, all I can say is that 2004 is certainly a good year for KQ9, more details on this matter are yet to come.

Also, he successfully played a 20 year old prince (albeit in the form of a Beast) no more than 2 years ago, in Kingdom Hearts.

If you know how to get ahold of his agent and he's willing to do it for free, I'll cast him ;).

I'll need a Star Map, a packet of bubble gum, and a catchy song represented in sheet music, and I'll find 'im.

Apparently he spells it Robby Benson now. There's no direct email but you can email the site. ;)

He currently teaches at Appalachian State University and lives in North Carolina.

"Robby Benson will spend the spring semester in New York working on Open Heart, the musical he wrote and in which he will perform at the Cherry Lane Theatre in March along with his wife Karla DeVito."

Mike, if you want to see the play, it's presumably right near by you. ;)

Oh, dear me, folks. As much as I loved Robby Benson's voice, I know our current Alex VO will be really cool, too. No stalking, I wouldn't want to be torn over the matter! :suffer:

I seem to recall Alexander's voice from KQ6 being highly terrible.  I am pleased to see that KQ9 will include some quality voice talent.

Terrible? were you playing the same KQ6 as the rest of us? :o

Welcome THC! ;D

I've heard a few voice samples yesterday for the KQ9 Edgar (Jon Stoll ;D) and I love what I've heard so far!  I'm really looking forward to hearing more of the recordings, not to mention the recordings of the Online Auditioners once they're chosen.  XD

By the way THC, have you tried out for any roles yet?

Storm: Yeah, I'm wondering that too. Maybe it's just that THC lacks the proper hormonal bias or something. ;)

Oh well, I like Super Mike's voice too, although I haven't gotten to hear him in "Alex mode" yet. ;)

Yonkey: Lucky snot. ;)

BTW... THC: Interesting name acronym... and picture saying. (cough, raises eyebrow)

No one's posted in this thread for forever, but I don't want to start a new thread, particularly since my opinion isn't exactly positive, but I just have to say that after listening to the sound clips, I don't like the Alexander voice actor at all! Alexander's my favourite character (LONG LIVE KQ3&6!) and I was really sad to hear that clip...I know the game'll be AMAZING and I can't wait for it to be out, I've been jonesing for kings quest lately, replaying all of the games and downloading the revamped versions...

But I can't help but wish that this guy sounded a bit more like the Alexander I've loved.  :'(
