thank you, I've been working on my thesis since 8th semester, since I was a bit ahead, have good grades (honor list) and I got all my things in order, they are allowing me to present thesis now, cuz usually you are only allowed to do so one semester after you course all your subjetcs, meaning the thesis is supposed to go at an "11th semester" not a 10th, so yikes, this is a first time in my campus btw, pretty much excited, honored and well... normal nervious and stuff, I just cant sleep, cant eat, cant live, cant do anything till I give that in AND THEN defend :( which I asume would be somewhere... around April I hope
Dont worry Say ;), you will do fine ;B
a NERD?! ...perfect scores?! ....boooring ; )
*hides his grades*
hahaha.... please don't mind me ; ) btw.... I found the best way not to be hated is...
*cover the ears of everyone under 18*
... not to come to school at all ; )
ill bite ur hand if u dont uncover my ears XB
*uncover Racx ears*
what is said is said and I'm glad you didn't heard it ; )
I heard it loudly and clearly ;D, you accidentally covered Says ears ;B
naww.... she woudn't let me.... would she? ; )
well i heard it perfectly so you didnt cover my ears very well then XB
Spring Break is in 9 days! Yea! ;D I so need it. This semester has been stressful...and we only have 7 1/2 weeks left! In other words, it's only half over. Right now, only slightly stressed right now...as me again when I have to do my summary report for clinic.
Say, I can sympathize with you, about kinda feeling hated by your classmates. As of right now, I am in my 6th semester of college...and still have a 4.0! Now, trust me. Now that I'm in some of the tougher subjects of my major, I'm sure I'm going to lose it really quickly, but at least I can say that I've done this well so far in college, right?
Good luck on everything, Say. We all know you can do it!! I'll keep you and your stress in my prayers!
Cat
omg koko thank you! that's so sweet of you!
and dont feel bad about it, college is SO different than highschool its like a piece of reality ONLY, in real life when you get to compete and compare your real work to what's going on in college, sometimes reality can be a scary thing, so it does helps you the fact you at least did good and enjoyed your career, if you do commit to it at least very well enjoy it while it last, because once its over it's over.
omfg, best of wishes on that, I do hope you wont have to :-X that would suck big time :(, BUT LETS GET POSITIVE :) it doesnt matter anyways you have so much to look foward :)
well it isnt as important as ur thesis ;P

Heh. Yeah, it's a good way not to be hated... but it's also a really good way to screw up your life. Trust me, I know. :P
hahaha... that's why I coverd some ears ; ) ...lol till my 18 I went to school but I rarely found it intresting (or needed) to go to any classes at universityi... those teachers are boring me ; ) ...and they are not good anyway ; )
btw. Say; please give us more boring details ; )
lol, well the strategy is of course to be applied here in vzla, so what Im doing is evaluating the factors of ebussiness (from marketing to bussiness plan) in order to commit or adapt that here, its just, the use of ecommerce here in large industry is huge, yet its rare you dont get to find many online services as well, so it means the transactions of data/money that you get to see here its because of foreing companies, yet, if big companies from here get to support it, means they are in touch with the IT as well as they do use it of course (otherwise they wouldnt have them as providers or related) so it is very odd the ecommerce is something that when you say internet people here freaks out, so there was where my resarch began, why the ecommerce sounds like a curse here (here Vzla) when you can save up costs, inmediat information and not just to mention inmediat buy, this is way different than go to a store than to see and buy with a click, you CAN control your market approach since you can track down the link or the comercial approach your clients have, and it has so many good things to provide to either expand or offer for a company that it is odd they dont even consider a database inside sometimes for the lack of knowledge or the lack of trust.
So, the thesis goes above all the important fields related, and we have 3 variables, one is webdesign (in here you find documentary info evaluating the needs of a comercial site, a bussiness one) ebusiness (the bussiness theory plan translated into online services and products) and security which involves SSL, SET, JEPI, OBI, IOTP and I think Im missing one :/ lol, oh well, secure and protocols of transactions online, either data or comercial.
This all sounds exciting for me but it may sound like babling to many :P so well yeah, all that applied to Vzla here :P more boring details to request ;P lol
More! more!
....say would you just send me your english version of your thesis ; )
LOL, do you really find it interesting? :P
the thesis is like 7 megas and not even finished (we are missing the litte details as introduction, and stuff), in around 170 or such, and I actually had to upload it online for my tutor go download it because there was no way on earth I could send him that lol, if you want I can drop you the link when its done :P lol, it should have a summary in english ;P other than that I cant guarantee I would translate all that in english lol :P
<sigh> ...fair enough ; /

Are you out of high school yet? Because I used to think all that too... until I dropped out and tried to go straight to college, and realized how many remedial courses I would have had to make to catch up to all the course requirements (and I'm talking requirements for, like, 100 level courses, in a community college!)
Peace & Luv, Liz
Say, I know all of this is interesting to you, but it seriously goes over my head. But I am impressed with anyone who understands the stuff! ;D
I have to admit, I'm more interested in cochlear implants, hearing loss, types of hearing loss, ways to fix them, signing, and then speech therapy for children. (Can you tell that my major is speech therapy??? lol). I'm really wanting to be an interpreter for the deaf, so don't know if I'll just go get my signing certificate after I graduate with my double major, or if I should go to grad school and specialize in Deaf Education...decisions, decisions...but I've got probably three years to decide!
Cat
SAy: all those brains amd beauty, too. Damn girl! That's impressive. And one of my greatest college achievments was getting an A on a paper I wrote within te 24 hours before it was due (up to the last minute!) that was ten pages long but I ran out stuff I was going to talk about on page 5.
Coolest part is that it was on the Matrix. I think that was my last paper/test too!
Good luck you crazy peeps. ;D

I did finished my highschool and I'm almost finished with college... but I guess I'm a bit of an exception (hahaha.... we are all unique ; ) ...cuz i'm pretty intelligent (or so 'they' say)
don't get me wrong, I would
never recommend dropping out of school to anyone... but I do think that what I've learned the past few years was a total waste of my time ; ) hahaha.... not
what I learned though, cuz I don't consider that a waste but the
way I learned I regret, because I wonder what I could have done with all the time I had to go to school.
but once again everyone is different and I know almost all my fellow students would disagree with mee (xcept for a few)
I've got a load of college work to get done myself. Just never get myself into the right fram of mind to do any =/
Yay not too bad! Got a C in English Lit. and a C in Politics which was 2 marks off a B. Its actually quite good considering the amount of people who got E's and U's! For those who don't know how the (stupid) A'level system works in the UK heres a quick summary.
You choose 3-5 AS subjects in year 12 (the first year after you've done your GCSE's) and then depending on what the exam boards decide you take a module of the course in the winter and get your grades back march. This grade is based on points which then gets translated into a Letter grade (A,B,C,D,E and U). Then you take the other modules of the course in summer and get the results in about August. The points are added together to form your final grade and then you can carry on all your subjects you took or drop one or two. In the second year you basically study aspects of the course in more detail at a higher level (called A2 level) and then you take exams in the winter again (the ones I've just done) and ones in the summer. You then add these points to the points from the previous year to get your final grade. Atm I could not do anymore exams and leave with an E in Politics and English but music I'd fail. If i left them as AS levels I'd have two C's and an E (eek music sucks :()
Well I'm sure that was very interesting for you all!(part from mango who knows all this)
You can say that again! I’ll second (or I guess third) everybody in lending my voice to the “Don’t worry, you kick arse Say†sentiment.
School stuff is hard, but I have loads of friends who just got out who all want to get back in… go figure… I guess it’s some sort of a bad habit.
As usual Say is right, there’s lots of great stuff to look forward or so I’m told… Just kidding, I’m two years liberated from college and loving it!
Must be nice...I think I have about 6 years left! And I've already been in college for 3 :o My problem is I keep adding things to my major!
Cat
No life-altering decisions for me in the near future. At least not planned.
Good luck to anyone in some sort of school situation. I wish you all the best grades, in whichever way they're presented. XD

that's not a problem in fact, its quite awesome, my degree is a 5 year one, I almost do it in 4 (due to some political stuff blah blah blah the college had to shut down for like a month) I couldnt do it because of some other factors, AND I got a degree sided in english (a language academy) as well as other extra curricular activities (got an award for an ilustration contest) I've had 3 years experience, so if you WANT to do it you certainly WILL do it, but my point, regardless of what the time frame is and all the obligations you may have, you CAN get into it in order to do as good as you can and move on with it (which is the important, besides time) I never had a long vacation, I never had time between semesters (I always picked them up right away) so right now it shows, good grades, teachers offer me real jobs lol, even the dean loves me and I got privilegues to move ahead one whole semester do to thesis, cant complain :)
So dont feel bad you keep adding things, in fact it is quite good hence you are preparing yourself more and better :P
AND THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR SWEET COMMENTS :)
it cheers me up :)
Yonkey.... good luck with you decision!! whatever it will be ; )
Quote from: Yonkey on March 11, 2004, 02:40:55 PMUnfortunately, I'd have to drop out of school completely though since the job is in the US. I might eventually do some other courses there, but I wouldn't be able to continue my current degree since both the program and the degree isn't offered.
Heh. Dude, with the screwy way things are going around these parts, you're better off staying in Canada. :P But if you do decide to come, tell me where you're moving to. :)
Out of curiousity, I forgot to ask... why would your school make you withdraw for a year just for failing a class? Seems rather silly.
Peace & Luv, Liz
Thanks Brrr. :)

There's a Faculty policy that says you can't fail a compulsory subject twice, or you're forced to withdraw. :-\ I checked with the Faculty too to see if it was true and they confirmed it.
Ugh, that sucks. Makes no sense whatsoever to me, though. Once you get out of the "swing" of things for a year, it'll be even *harder* to pass those classes, so why would they do that, if they want you to pass? Oh, well, I should be used to things not making sense to me. :P
Peace & Luv, Liz
Neil told me about that before, and seriously I cant quite get it myself, I find it a bit harsh (from the politics and rules from the campus he attends to) but either way I wish you the best neil, and if you leave me I f***ing go to canada to kick yar ass.... :P <3
Good luck to all of you with exams/midterms/thesis/other life-altering events! :D
I myself have to give in a "project" I've been working on soon... nothing life-altering, but failing would mean I'll need to take 2 more semesters instead of just one to get my degree :-\
However, I was assured I'd get a passing grade if I give it in on time. That kinda makes me wonder - was the part of the work I already submitted SO wonderful that they're sure I'll pass?? Nah, it probably means I'm so horrible they'll just give me the grade to get rid of me :-[
Yonkey -
I don't know how things are in Canada, but if you were in my country, I'd tell you to grab that job with both hands. Learning on the job is much more valuable than what you learn in school. Studying is the easy part - you can always complete your degree later. Getting a good job without previous experience, even with a degree, is hard (in my experience at least) :-\
Of course, if you were in MY country, you'd want to re-locate to the US for obvious reasons :P
I'm sure you'll do fine, Storm! I've never been assured a passing grade for anything school related, so they must love what you sent so far and know that it'll just get better. :)
Thanks for the support as well. ;D I forgot to mention another annoying policy the school has is that you must complete the degree within 8 years from the time of admission. This September will make it 3 years and I know it would take at least 1.5 year to complete, so that means I really only have 3.5 years before I lose the degree.
I've been working for + 3 years and I do know exactly what you mean Storm, and yeah it is true. Not to put more pressure on you Neil lol, but oh well, you already know how I feel about it. :P
Neil, my two cents if you’ll have it. Though the jobs sounds sexy, at least in the US a degree starts you on a whole different level in terms of $$$ and potential for advancement. My first job, I started “supervising†people who’d being doing the job 10 years but who had no BA, in truth they supervised me but I got the cash, almost doesn’t seem fair does it.
I don’t know think long and hard about this one, I hope you’ve got time to consider it. Good luck!
Good luck with your thesis Say! :D
And good luck everyone with all your school and stuff!
Me, I'm doing okay, but I keep having one or two classes every semester that give me big troubles. ;P Mostly cuz I'm too stressed to do the stuff. ;P

I'm hearing impaired, if you find a way to make superb hearing aids that cost $15 a pop let me know! ;)
They at least need to cover hearing aids in insurance policies, it hurtz the wallet when they cost like $1000-$2000 apiece nowadays. ;P

Hey Oldbushie! I have a few questions for you, just b/c I'm interested in the stuff...PM me if you don't want to post it...but what type of HL do you have, what caused it, what is the severity of it...oh yeah, and what type of hearing aids do you use?
We have a girl in our major with a hearing loss and she talks about having to get ear molds every about 6 months. It's really interesting because we learn this stuff in class and then she gets to give us how it affects her.
Now, about me coming up with some cheap ones..don't know if I can :-\. I'm a long way from being able to do anything like that! I will admit, though, that I didn't know that insurance didn't cover hearing aids...however, I know that they will cover the majority of cochlear implants (but with those we're talking about 50,000-60,000 each!)
Anyway, thanks ahead of time for being so open!

Well, in terms of $$$ the pay is really good. It's more of an upper-level position so I'd be making a bit more than double an entry-level position in my field. Plus, I probably wouldn't get this kind of salary from a job in my field for at least 5-10 years.
Neil, that’s very exciting! Sweet! I guess you do have big choices ahead. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision. Just as long as you stick around here…Good luck!
You said that 40% isn't all that bad, but that you have a hard time hearing people when they talk fast...I would say that since its in the cochlea (where the cilia is located) taht you would have trouble hearing high frequencies, but since it's congenital (appearing at birth) then it may be all frequencies. If you want me to go into detail about what the cilia do, I can (it's going to be an essay question on my Audiology test on Tuesday, so I better know it! lol)...but won't go into that unless you (or someone else) ask for it! :P
What's amazing is all the advances in hearing aids and other types of amplification that occurs all the time! So I'm sure that you'll have something you want sometime...and maybe sometime soon.
I take it you have analog hearing aids and not digital. I hear those (digital) are a lot more expensive, but are a TON clearer. This is all so interesting, but I have got to get off...I think I've been at the computer doing different things for about 4 hours now! Oops...
Cat
I actually have digital hearing aids, they were bought when hearing aids weren't quite as expensive and advanced but still a little steep in prices. ;) As for the cilia problem, yeah I suppose it is high frequencies, but it's like human speech up to those high frequencies for me. ;P Might depend partly on which sections are missing cilia, I dunno. ;) I do know that I can't hear much birdsong, and I can't hear leaves rustling at all unless they are right nearby. ;P

How technical do you want to get? The cilia that process the high frequencies are located at the beginning (or basal turn) of the cochlea. The cilis that process the lower frequencies, at the apex, or top. Because the high frequencies are at the beginning of the cochlea, those are the ones damaged first from loud noises, and of course, in your case, genectics. But I'll leave it at that. That's really cool, though, that you have digital now. My friend in the major who is hearing impaired has analog and at the moment can't afford the digital...but I'm sure once she gets grounded in her career, she'll get them!
Cat
I've read somewhere along the way there's been a great improvement in digital hearing aids recently. Don't know if our health insurance covers hearing aids, I don't know anyone who needs a hearing aid (actually one of my uncles does) or who has a hearing aid, so I don't know if they're covered or not.
I have a hard time trying to keep looking at your serious posts with that thing... moving on your signature lol :P

AAAAAA! You guys won't believe what I found out yesterday! I was talking with my advisor and decided that I'm going to go to graduate school to study Deaf Education. BUT because I'm going to do that, I'm 40 hours from graduating! So, I'm going to take 10 hours over the summer and I'M GOING TO GRADUATE NEXT MAY (May 2005)!! I had no idea I was so close!!
So now all I have to do is decide what graduate school I'm going to go to...got research to do over spring break!
WHOO HOO!!

Didn't think there was a way to figure it out, but the academic calendar for the next probably 5 years is up on my school's website. How about May 7, 2005?

I don't get this. How do I go from 40 hours (10 in the sumer, so that's 30 left after that) to May 2005? ???
I'm going to take 10 hours in the Summer, 15 in the Fall and 15 in the Spring...making 40 hours, so I graduate in the Spring, which is May 7, 2005. Does that explain it?
de Kat
15 hours is not enough to fill the whole of Fall, even if you only had 1 hour a day, so what'll you be doing inbetween those hours?
Oh, I think I understand...when we talk about hours we mean a week. If I take 15 hours, that's 15 hours of class time a week. Here in the US, we can only take 19 hours a week without special permission. For me, 15 hours is 5 classes that I spend 3 hours in each class per week.
Cat
Ah, so you have 10 hours of class-time a week in summer, and 15 hours of class-time a week in Fall and in Spring. Hmm, where did Winter go?
BTW, the second line of your sig is not quite correct Dutch. 8)
Congratulations koko !!!
everything administrative related to college or such are always confusing! lol and yeah its all good news koko! hope you get the fukz out of that soon enough :P
