QuoteCorridor 9, Phoenix Online's next project, is an original adventure game set in the ever-ominous not-too-distant future and the mystery surrounding an abandoned scientific facility and one woman's relentless pursuits therein.
;D this day just keeps getting better and better! :suffer: you guys are a talented lot aren't you?
Abandoned scientific facility, eh?? Nightmares will ensue from this, good times 8)
Oh gosh, I'm having flashes of Six Days a Sacrifice... :o
Can't wait to hear more about it! :)
Sounds awesome!
I know I'm jumping the gun here, but what the heck...
Is it safe to assume C9 will have a Telltale style pricing model? In other words, buy individual episodes or buy the whole pack and get a bit of a discount?
I want it to turn out that the main character is paranoid and nothing is going on.
I just think it'd be silly, and I'd enjoy that. :P (Maybe just as an alternate ending if you replay it and get enough points... or replay it and fail to get enough points? :\)
Corridor 9 is a story I feel very passionate about, and it's a very personal one.
It's probably the deepest story I've ever written. Its themes centers around a battle between Religion vs Science, Life vs Death, Man vs Machine... It's extremely atmospheric and you could say it's a sci-fi spiritual drama with hints of horror.
You'll have to wait more to hear about it. Maybe we'll release some concept art soon if you guys make enough noise ;)
I am making noise Cesar
That sounds awesome!...right come on everybody join in with me on making noise so we can pressure this already hard working team in to giving us more :suffer:

WHAAAAAAAAA!!
*Makes Noise!*
Honestly, this sounds like a rather compelling story just from the brief.
So, how can I help?
I have a question. From the plot summary I'm reminded a bit of Shutter Island, the end of which reveals that
The guy investigating the goings-on at the asylum was, in fact, insane all along, and everything was his delusions. Well, I think that's what it was supposed to make you believe.
It makes you really think about everything that happened and provokes a lot of discussion. Is C9 going to get into your head like that? You say it has hints of horror, and I can only assume from the setting that it can definitely make you feel a bit uneasy, but is it going to be any of a psychological thriller-type game?
NOISE NOISE NOISE
That's all. :)

Faith appears to be drawn by the same person who did lots of concept art for TSL: someone who signs "GAM". I believe his last name is Mancini...? Anyone?
Ooh, thanks!
Her shoes are sparkly.
You mean big! ;)
Appearence looks great for a main character, I always thought it is odd that there are so few female main characters in computer games (not that I complain, I don't mind playing male ones at all :P but I know a few friends who are sick of playing a different gender all the time). the outfit reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it.

Hrmm... I guess you're done with the writing, etc. and are moving forward. Well, if you're ever considering a sequel, consider exploring epistemology. You probably already do bump up against it a lot as is since it is a major vehicle for the discussion of religion vs. science (since both use underlying assumptions and frameworks for self-justification and thus are easy prey for a field of study that questions such bases).
Personally and as a scientist, I find my discussions with my epistemologist cousin, who likes to systematically downplay empiricism, highly disconcerting... like this:

Interesting,
I expected something with a bit more brushed copper, natural leather, and perhaps stylized nerf-guns...
Nonetheless .. go with it.
This sounds really cool. I know I heard about TSL way too late to audition for any of the voice roles, but seeing as how C9 seems to still be in its infancy.. Is there any way I'll be able to lend my voice to you guys?!

I mentioned this in the forum - but figured I'd say it here as well.
I would just like to extend a hand in saying if you need a voice actor for future episodes, I'd be glad to lend a voice.
I've done the voice acting (since around Nov 2003) for Neverending Nights (http://www.neverendingnights.com) doing a wide variety of character voices (as well as one of the main characters, Peter the Ranger). A listing of the numerous characters I have done for the series can be seen here. (http://neverendingnights.com/necast)
I also do Professional Voice acting and have a recording studio in my office. Some of the professional work I have done can be seen on my personal website over here (http://tawmis.com/) which includes five demo samples.
Mind if I ask why you picked that particular name? Corridor 7 is the name of an existing game and Corridor 8 was the name of the sequel that was planned if the producing company wouldn't have gone out of business.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corridor_7
Seeing that the Capstone has long since died, it's unlikely anyone's gonna send a lawyer out to force you to change the name, but even so...why use a title that implies being a sequel to an old-school FPS that wasn't even very popular?
Huh! Well, speaking personally I'd never heard of Corridor 7 before. The name (which may yet change) was rather tied into to the design--most specifically that there were, well, nine corridors in the game. :) The game's a bit smaller in scope now, though, so again, it may change.

I did run into the game Corridor 7 when our game was used to be called Corridor 7!
Like Katie said, we may change the name of the game. It could be simply called "C9", we'll see.
Haha, well if we change the name, I hope we come up with something better than that for a new name. ;)
It sounds like some kind of explosive.
Ran into another game commonly referred to as C9 (Google Search (http://www.google.com/search?q=c9+mmorpg)). It is officially titled Continent of the Ninth, but referred to by fans and by themselves as C9. :-X
C9 will have a commercial release, right?
I do not think the Amercian Goverment will allow that... ::)
The Ninth Corridor, The Ninth Hall, Passage Nine, Ninth Wing, Corridor Quest..
Corridor 9 will be commercial, yes.
That is very exciting. I would be very happy to see you guys at PO actually turn a profit for all your hard work!
I'm sorry if I'm derailing your conversation at the moment, but this just occurred to me. Corridor 9's thread is in an off-topic forum under The Silver Lining category. Wouldn't you guys like to give it it's own category or forum? Even though it may be awhile before it comes out, I just thought it would deserve more recognition than being put under the off-topic forum of TSL. Especially since it will be your first original title.
I'm not 100% positive but I'd assume we'll give it it's own area in due time, there's just not much to say about it at the moment.
That could be easily fixed by releasing some spoilers *nods*
No new posts in a while - is there any news or concept art? Please? ;D

How far into development is Corridor 9?
:suffer:
Haha, in all seriousness though, it's in "pre-production", or basically everything is still at the earliest stages.
As far as I know, everybody who has free time is putting it into TSL stuff right now.
Which is how it should be! :say:
I've been wondering about the business model for POS. (I'll understand if this is something you prefer not to share.) Will you be looking for investors to cover expenses, or are you hoping to be able to complete a commercial project (such as C9) with people working for shares in the future profits (or something like that)? It seems like it would be hard to get off the ground without funding up front, but there's something to be said for not having to answer to investors in the short term (i.e. quarterly).
That's both probably best kept private, but is also still being determined anyways.
Ok. :)
I'm a multi- trillionaire so I will be covering all of their expenses. ;D ;)

Not at the moment, while Episode 2 is coming along nicely, all of our efforts have been put into finishing that episode. Once that's done we'll move onto focusing more on 3, and so on. At some point we'll start splitting some efforts but we really want to get Episode 2 done and out for you guys so you can enjoye the longer and more complex experience.
Thanks for the info.

Is Austin Haynes doing the music? Anyone?
He's done the few pieces we've had tossing around for this so far, but we're really not at that stage yet.
but he will!!!
Austin is to me what John Williams is to Steven Spielberg.
Austin's music is just incredible, I'm hoping that he'll continue to do all of the compusing for us.
So when is Corridor 10 coming out? And what happened to Corridor's 1-8? ;D
they were given to CC, he can experminent on recovered Asylum escapees there.
Will C9 use Torque?
probably moving into Torque 3D.
So there's "Torque" and "Torque 3D"?
But isn't "Torque" 3D?
Torque 3D is what they called the current version of the engine. We are using Torque TGE for TSL.
How does the current Torque 3D compare to TSL's version of Torque TGE?
Pretty much a better engine in terms of graphics, features and tools.
Thanks for answering my questions.
Will you be working from scratch with Torque 3D for Corridor 9. What of the modifications that were made to the TGE engine for TSL, are they no longer necessary with Torque 3D. Or if so, can these modifications be easily reproduced in T3D. When you look at the official site you don't even see the old engine. Edit: Okay apparently the old engines are listed under previous versions.
EDIT: I found this video on youtube, check it out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8k-V3czlXQ
They are compatible, so we should in theory be able to port the code over.
Seems like I should start studying more about game engines, rather more then just animation.
I know my friend suggested coding too but I think that's a long time away because I need to finish my associates degree at least for 3D animation first so I can say I have something in-case future companies want me to produce a paper.
Shouldn't this thread have been moved to the Gaming Talk board a while ago? ;)

What's AGDS4? There's nothing to download except the manual....what a tease!
I noticed that too, I haven't contacted them yet as I can't devote any time to studying the Engine right now. If you are interested in the product, it might be an idea to email them and find out when it will be available.
Weldon mentioned this before, so I think I can repost this: We're actually moving away from Torque and moving to Unity. We've (read: weldon) pretty much fallen in love with the engine, and it makes ports to all sorts of other platforms very smooth. So for Corridor 9 and any other future projects we have, we're very likely to be moving forward with Unity.
I'm interested to see how this will work. They've had to do lots of custom modifications to the Torque engine's source code. Supposedly, that's not necessary with Unity. It's possible to get a source code license if necessary, but I'm guessing it's not cheap.
Quote from: snabbott on March 21, 2011, 11:24:40 AM

I haven't seen any builds in unity yet, so I can't vouch for how well the engine works. But I trust Weldon. If he believes in the engine, then so do I!
Oh, I'm not questioning the decision. I've heard a lot of good things about Unity, and there are some commercial games that were developed in it. I downloaded it and have played around with it a bit. They have a game that's semi-made and instructions for putting it together. So far, I've realized that I'm not very good with the interface. It took me a couple of hours to move the character from one end of the scene to the other. :P
Also, I found it a little odd that the walking area is in the xz plane - I would have expected it to be xy.
Unity is probably going to be the industry standard and it has its uses with flash which will be helpful to me. Torque 3D still beats it. The next step up from TGEA with the Silver Lining should be Torque 3D. Plus, Unity takes you back to somewhat normal coding methods and may take longer to learn the ropes for one used to torque.

Another interesting game Engine. From the makers of the valhalla games.
http://www.vulcan.co.uk/mother3d/frm-mid.htm
Wilco was pretty excited for Unity when we were at the GDC 2011. It looks pretty good, I also have another friend who's buying up tons of books for it.
It does seem like the next wave of the future.
Will there be any facehuggers, aliens or predators? Then again what about Freddy Kruger or would that be infringing on copywrite laws? ???
Any of those things would not be part of C9 if they happened. Well, at the very least, anything Krueguer-related would not be in C9, because yes, that would be under a copyright!
