Title: King's Quest Roleplay!
Post by: crayauchtin on June 28, 2010, 12:40:15 PM
Sooo, we were getting this organized before the C&D hit us... so I figured, I'd give it another shot and hopefully this time we won't be so rudely interrupted. :P

Here's the rules:
1) Have fun!
2) Don't control other people's characters. This means no moving them, giving them dialogue, killing them, etc without permission of the person who plays that character.
3) No made-up "royal family members" -- you could make up cousins, uncles, or other distant relatives, but we will not be having Graham and Valanice's third child. I know that seems pretty obvious, but you'd also be surprised at the kinds of people I've seen people play in RPs. :P
4) I'm not going to put a limit on "characters per player" at the moment, but I reserve the right to do so if we get tons of people wanting to jump in. (But that limit will be no less than two.)
5) Obviously only one person can play each character from the games, so if two people both want to play the same character, we're going to take writing samples and we'll take a vote as to who captured the character better in their sample.
6) Have fun!

As for our setting and timeline...
We voted before the C&D to use the AGDI version of King's Quest II as part of our official timeline, so I think we'll stick with that. And I believe we also decided to set the timing in between 7 and MoE, correct?
As far as plotline goes, we need something that will allow us to get a group of people adventuring all over the whole world of Daventry, rather than just the one going on a quest (as it's been in all of the games) and for that, we need a bigger, badder bad guy than we've seen before... so I'm taking suggestions! :P

So, with that all out of the way.... who's interested? Does anyone have any questions? The only limits really are what's in the series and your own imagination... so, basically, there are none! :)

I'm not all that fond of the AGDI version of King's Quest II, but I'll give it a shot.

For plot, we could have the Black Cloak Society surging up all over the world, so that the players could separate into groups to travel and stop different villains.

Speaking of which, is there any chance that somebody could play a villain?
Title: Re: King's Quest Roleplay!

I was thinking something along those lines, that way we can revisit each land. (And maybe some new ones -- who else wants to visit Eastern Kolyma?)

The main reason, as I recall, the majority voted for the AGDI version of the plot was because it presents us with a good overall villain in the Father. Also, I think someone had expressed interest in playing Caldaur but since I can't seem to locate the thread in the archives, I could just have made that part up. :P

I think, especially if we're going with the Black Cloak surge up, that we're gonna need more than one person playing villains! I think I should probably play the Father (y'know, because the GM is usually the main baddie as well and all), but other than that I'm going to have villains be just as playable as heroes, although villainous plots will need to be coordinated via PM.
Which also brings me to something I forgot to put in the first post... made up character bio form! Just so's we know who we're dealing with...

Name: (please also put any aliases or nicknames)
Race: (Human, Gnome, Dwarf, etc)
Age: (doesn't have to be exact, approximate is fine... if your character doesn't look their age, please state that as well!)
Occupation: (also include any organizations your character might belong to here)
Appearance: (describe your character and/or put a picture of them here)
Personality: (describe your character's personality, especially any noticeable quirks)
Inventory: (anything your character carries... I'm also going to keep the character bios up to date with anything a character happens to pick up, after all this is an adventure game!)
History: (Just give a little bit of information about your characters life up to the beginning of the game.)

And I think we're going to say that characters can start in any of the kingdoms that the first six games take place in. (Etheria being in another world makes it harder to make a starting spot, and MoE has too many places in it... six is manageable!)

I'm glad I could make your day, Darthkiwi! I hope you don't mind possibly playing a good guy as well -- depends on how many people we have playing.

Uhm... :\
This thread isn't actually about TSL. This more of an interactive fanfiction, no download required, just access to the forums here and you can join in.
But you are going to have to download the TSL game files so I don't know how the Gig Limits will effect that for ya. :\

I'd be interested in playing a villain, but if everyone wants to be one it might be a bit too much.

Anyway, I guess I'll get started on some character ideas and get some profiles made up...

I went ahead and mentioned this in my signature. You know, to get the word out.
Title: Re: King's Quest Roleplay!
Post by: crayauchtin on June 28, 2010, 04:50:40 PM
Haids, pretty sure that was your opinion last time too. As long as everyone else is willing to let you be Cassima, I say we go for it.

Nifty, that's a really good idea. I think everyone who's interested should mention it in their signatures!

So, I'm thinking, I really like the idea of the Black Cloak Society surging up.... I have some ideas already.

Obviously, there really can't be anything internal going on in the Land of the Green Isles, Alhazred's been locked away and he no longer has a genie. So, someone from somewhere else is going to have to come in and cause problems.
I'm thinking...a fleet of pirates affiliated with the Black Cloak Society? Not the ones who Alexander was kidnapped by in 3 (as, according to the Companion, they all died but one, who was driven mad), but still. I'm liking the idea of having it led by a Pirate Queen who has some magic... I'll probably write up a bio in a little bit.

Kolyma, on the other hand, is probably dealing with repercussions for Caldaur's abandoning the organization, and probably has been for some time. So, we can just stick a baddie in there who's managed to all but usurp Caldaur. This could be Hagatha, but (as I'll say before) I'm thinking she may up to other mischief.

Llewdor was going leaderless without Manannan for a while, weren't they? So perhaps the Black Cloak Society has finally planted another member there to rule over them.... and maybe he's even more evil than Manannan was.

Speaking of our feline friend, both he and Hagatha are on the loose still, if both furry. I imagine they're probably still looking for ways to remove their feline afflictions. Since human magic would have failed them for years at this point, I think it would be most likely that they're now seeking a cure from fairy magic. Without a means to get to Etheria themselves, I'd guess they would head to Tamir and attempt to force Genesta into either curing them or getting them to Etheria.

Of course, the Father will be using these distractions to try to find the Item (which, I have my own theories about but I have to check if they've been confirmed or denied on the AGDI forums before I explain that any further.)

So far we only have three people volunteering to play villains (myself, Nifty, and Kiwi) and the only good guy we have is Cassima. Obviously, we need to stir up more interest or Daventry is doomed! :P

Another part of the plot could be attempting to bring back certain members of the society. I have theories on how a few of them could be done, but I suppose those can wait 'til later. We don't want too much of the plot given away...

I love this idea, Cray!  There has always been a certain lack of appreciation for our high-seas villains.  Sounds like fun!

Okay, so I have a profile worked out for a villain, if we need one.

I could also do a hero, if I need to, and then that hero could be involved with a different villain... which would be complicated, but yeah.

I'm alright with complicated.

I mean, I know that it's King's Quest and we want it to feel like King's Quest... but we're also not limited by disc space or anything, so it can be as complicated as we want. And I don't mind if it's a bit darker than the series either, unless any of our players object to that?
Title: Re: King's Quest Roleplay!

Dark is good with me. If it turns waaay too gothic then I guess it won't be KQ anymore, but a smattering of terrifying bleakness here and there would add something, I think.
Title: Re: King's Quest Roleplay!

Oh, this won't be the next Lovecraft novel, don't worry.
He's dead so he's not allowed to RP with us. Unwritten rule. :P

Here's our pirate queen... who I guess I'll be playing since Tessie's just gonna watch. :P

Name: Elsa Valiash (pronounced Vah-lee-yash); also known as the Sea Scourge
Race: Human
Age: 22, not much older than the twins
Occupation: Pirate Queen, member of the Black Cloak Society, Enchantress
Appearance: Elsa has skin that is tan and weathered from her life on the high seas. Her hair, slightly longer than shoulder length, is a light brown color and is often loose in a tangled mane around her face. She has green eyes, and a very visible, red scar on her right cheek. She typically wears high, black leather greaves, tight tan leather pants, a dark red corset, a white gauze shirt with ties undone, leaving it as baggy as possible above her corset, and a black half-length cape.
Personality: Elsa is known by her crews as a cunning and ruthless warrior, diplomat, and leader. She is considered highly charismatic by the pirates who follow her. To outsiders, however, her reputation is merely for cruelty and mercilessness. Above all else, she is power-hungry. She truly believes the world itself should be under the command of the Black Cloak Society, whom she follows blindly.
Abilities: Elsa is a master of hypnosis, thought suggestion, and various other charms, particularly against men.
Inventory: black cape, lots of gold, pirate codex, book of charms, rapier
History: Elsa's birth is highly mysterious. Most believe she changed her name as she began to rise through pirate society. What is known is that she rose quickly through the ranks of pirate society and earned a ship of her own sooner than most men would have. Though pirate culture is much more gender-equal than most, rumors of her magic began to circulate.
These rumors eventually reached the ears of the Black Cloak Society -- Mordack, Shadrack, and the Father. One day, three men in black cloaks and hoods appeared onboard Elsa's ship. They disappeared into her quarters with her, and emerged shortly thereafter. She began wearing her black cape immediately following this meeting, though none knew where she had obtained it.
It did not take long after that for Elsa to raise a fleet of vessels. Soon, they had conquered a small island of the coast of Eastern Kolyma and made it the lair for her growing pirate empire. Though her ships often traveled by themselves, they all returned to her island and shared her spoils. She and her fleet of pirates became the terror of the seas.
Until, quite suddenly, the mountain at the center of their island began to smoke. Knowing the coming eruption would destroy the island, she gathered all her crews and ships together, took what treasure and supplies they could from the island and fled to a safe distance. The eruption was enormous, nothing remained of what the island had been.
And so, with encouragement from the Father, she set her sights on a new home, north and with multiple islands to make use of.... the Land of the Green Isles.

I specifically designed her, Haids, to give Cassima and opportunity to be more heroic than I think she was in the games. Don't waste this chance! :P

Okay, so I have a profile completely finished for a villain. I just need to know what realm he should be trying to take... Llewdor or Serenia would probably be best. So, is it my choice or...?

And I can still do a hero too.

Title: Re: King's Quest Roleplay!
Post by: I_am_so_nifty on June 30, 2010, 11:17:30 AM
Okay, so I was vague in the history because I'm planning on revealing more of it later. I also uploaded a picture of him for my profile picture. Oh, and I just have one question. Is Manannan still on Mordack's Island, or has Hagatha gotten him yet?

Name: Renwick
Race: Human
Age: 32
Occupation: Member of the Black Cloak Society
Appearance: Renwick has hair so black that it blends right in with the black cloak that he is never seen without—except when he's in disguise, that is. His eyes are in direct contrast with his dark attire, as they are a striking amber that can appear gold in a certain light. Renwick's facial features include a prominent brow, a pointed nose with a distinctive bump on it, and a very square chin with a bit of stubble. He's somewhat muscular—what you'd expect from a kind of power-obsessed sorcerer—and his height is around 5"10'.
Personality: Renwick generally tries to keep his emotions in check. And by tries to, I mean that he fails. He's very quick-tempered, and if he's angry, he's sure to show it. This tends to get him in a lot of unnecessary fights, especially with other members of the Society of the Black Cloak. He tends to be stubborn and arrogant, and because of this he is a really hard guy to like.
Inventory: Along with the black cloak that he always has on hand, Renwick carries an oak wand that he often uses for iconomancy (for which he also carries a guide).
History: Renwick has a complicated past. He grew up in a small town in Serenia, where he formed a particular disliking to the people of his town and learned from a very powerful wizard. After leaving his teacher, who he felt was not teaching him the kind of magic he wanted to learn, he went off on his own. Soon, he met the wizard Shadrack, a powerful and high-ranking member of the Black Cloak Society, who promised to teach him magic that would make him more powerful than he could dream. Renwick accepted, and quickly rose in both magical prowess and rank in the Society. Now, he has been ordered to begin a takeover of Serenia, the very land where he grew up. His first task in doing so is finding a suitable fortress...

At first I was gonna say Manannan was still there... but then I realized... if no one had gone to the island since Mordack's death, Manannan would still be in that bag. And after all this time, he'd definitely be dead. So, I would say someone, not necessarily Hagatha, but someone has already been to the island since Mordack's defeat. I don't see why they would leave the cat there, but I'm sure we can devise a reason if you'd like him to still be there.

Is Renwick's former master Crispin or am I reading into this too much?

Nah, Manannan can have left. It's probably better that way.

:suffer:

Okay, I'm just kidding. Yeah, Crispin was his master. But it's not necessarily the same town.

Huh, I guess I wasn't vague enough...

Baddies:

Baddies:

Elsa Valiash = crayauchtin
Renwick = I_am_so_nifty

Baddies:
The Father = crayauchtin
Elsa Valiash = crayauchtin

Dirwen = Delling

Also, I assume my bard needs a name. How about Aethelgiedd? It's Anglo Saxon ;D

I'd like to join! Since we have a Cassima, I could try as an Alexander- It only makes sense that Cassima has her husband beside her :) (Besides, I'm a serial genderbender in RP >.> ). Never played a character like him so I hope I can do justice :<

When's the RP starting? When you bad guys have plotted? And when in the time line is it?

Oh, Arkillian, that's excellent! We DO need an Alexander (and I'm a fan of gender-bending sometimes as well, as evidenced by my made-up pirate queen villain!)
I think we need a couple more good guys to even things out, so please tell your friends everyone!!

Since we don't know everything about TSL yet -- as much as I would love to do our RP in that timeline.... we opted to go with the AGDI timeline -- which everyone can look at  it here (http://kingsquest.wikia.com/wiki/AGDI_timeline) if there's any questions. I know it isn't canon, but we were thinking (if I recall correctly) that it ties the stories more together and is very well-known in the fan community even though it isn't canon.
We did want to begin after KQ7 -- I think we wanted to not include MoE? (It's hard to recall since most of the voting on this happened just before the C&D!)

As for the plot, we've worked some things together but there's much more plotting to be done!

The idea is that the Black Cloak Society is basically launching an assault on the whole of the world -- seeing as how they keep being individually defeated, this makes a certain amount of sense. Here's what we've discussed:
--The Land of the Green Isles: Alhazred is in prison, not making too much trouble (until someone decides to play him anyways!) but Elsa Valiash, the Sea Scourge, (her bio is on the first page of this thread) is besieging the islands with her fleet of pirates.
--Kolyma is perhaps dealing with the repercussions of Caldaur leaving the organization, and we hadn't decided much else.
--Llewdor we thought probably had it's leadership replaced by a new Black Cloak member since Manannan's defeat.
--With both Manannan and Hagatha suffering from "feline afflictions" and with no human magic able to help them, we'd thought maybe they'd turn to fairy magic -- in Tamir.
--I_am_so_nifty's villain Renwick is attempting to create a base of operations in Serenia, so he can begin to take over that land as well.

Now when this thread began, we didn't know what the Item the Father was after was. KQ3 Redux revealed that -- but I'm thinking since it was like, what, a pair of hands from a statue? I think there's more to the Item. Perhaps it was broken into pieces and even though the hands were destroyed, the Father may still be looking for other parts. (I'm thinking, statue of Legenimor?)

I_am_so_nifty had mentioned the possibility that some baddies may be trying to resurrect some deceased baddies as well, so if anyone's interested in them.... feel free to speak up!

Anyways, our cast list:
Good Guys
-Alexander: Arkillian
-Cassima: Haids
-Graham: Cray
-Deloria: Deloria

Bad Guys
-The Father: Cray
-Elsa Valiash: Cray
-Renwick: I_am_so_nifty

Neutral Guys
-Dirwen: Delling
-Aethelgiedd: Darthkiwi

So, we actually are pretty even, aren't we? Shall we start then?

I am going to make a separate thread for in-character stuff, and we'll leave this one as out of character.

Also, Deloria rules a small kingdom culturally and geographically similar to Bronze-Age Mesopotamia. :D

I only know 2 things:

1) I love the idea of Dirwen being in Serenia and having Renwick more or less as his nemesis. :D

2) Deloria's realm (needs a name, Deloria, dear :P) should be encountering some sort of attempted take over by the BCS.

All the realms should be -- that's the plan. Excepting Etheria, because if they can get to Etheria it blows my whole idea behind Tamir. :P

This is the most touching, haunting and significant picture I've ever seen. :P This is also what's going to happen to my castle once the BCS invades.

Oh man- I have a bit of research to do. Can we give the RP a week so I can play TSL? I'd like to finish Part 4 before I get distracted by starting a new RP ;)

Absolutely, I think we're all distracted by the new episode!

I myself am probably going to start TSL all over again from episode 1 because I seem to have gotten a bit rusty.... or maybe I'm just dumb. :P

PS, Arkillian, every time I see you post here it reminds me that I need to hassle you on DeviantArt about my Wiki.... I'm going to do that RIGHT NOW. If you don't have a message from me on DeviantArt when you read this, please yell at me. :P

Got your note, and it's cool :) I dont' mind my art being displayed on other sites as long as I'm back credited. I'd be naive if I thought that putting my art on a website like DA would mean that noone shares it XD It has buttons to easily reblog the picture on places like facebook as stuff. As long as people know who drew it and stuff then it's all good :) I dont' want to see people selling my art though (that'd upset me T.T )

Is it too late for me to join? I'd like to play a good dragon. Could I play the crystal dragon in KQVII? I started to write a fan fiction about her. She's female, her name is Cressida.

Name: Cressida Crystal Light
Race: crystal dragon
alignment: chaotic good
place of origin: Eldritch, Vulcanix Underground
Looks: Slender dragon, four limbs, first pair bat-like arms/wings, can use wings as arms, has wing claws like hands. Strong back legs with sharp talons/claws. Slender reptilian heads with long snout, spikes on head, whiskers. sharp fangs. Sparkling, crystaline radiant crystal scales, reflect light like a prism, shine with rainbow colors. Very beautiful with crystal scales sparkling in light.  Spikes on tail.

History: Dragons live for thousands of years. Cressida is three thousand years old. When she first turned one thousand, which is like a youth becoming an adult to dragons, she left her parents and little sister Chryseis to search for her life mate, a lover and spouse to spend the rest of her life with and start a afamily of her own with. WHen dragon become of age they traditionally leave their parents and search for a mate. It took her three years to find Ossian, a silver dragon that she fell in love with and took for a mate. At first her parents were disapointed that she chose a silver dragon instead of another crystal dragon, but when they got to know Ossian they saw he was good and honorable, worthy of their daughter's love. THe dragons lived in Vulcanix underground and protected the valuable jewels and gold of the trolls from theives or intruders. THey had a speical relationship with the good, friendly trolls and helped them with their work in guarding the volcano and keeping the magic world of ELdritch safe from any volcanic eruptions. The trolls also mined precious minerals, gold, silver, precious gems, and made things out of the metal and precious stones. SOme of the valuable minerals went to the fairy kingdom of Etheria which floated in cloud islands in the skies above Eldritch. THe fairy jewelers were great artisans in making beautiful jewelry and fine objects.

Cressida had eggs which hatched into little draclings with Ossian. Her children grew into adults and went on adventures. Bu then, something terrible happened. Lady Malicia, the sister of Titania the queen of the fairies in Etheria, started a rebellion against her sister. Malicia cast a spell on Cressida's young draclings, trying to get them under her control so she could use the young dragons for her own evil purposes. Cressida fought against Malicia, and Malicia's evil forces attacked the good dragons that protected the trolls. Dragons are mighty and strong, but Malicia's fairy magic was very powerful. She trapped Cressida's parents and Chryseis in another dimension of darkness, and that was the last Cressida ever saw of them.

Ossian fought Malicia's gargoyle and other demons she had working for her, and he was killed by them. Malicia was eventually defeated by the combination of Cressida, her children, the fairy forces of Etheria led by Oberon and Titania, Lady Ceres and Lord Attis of the woods, and Count Tsepish of Ooga-Booga.

During the fight Count Tsepish was beheaded, Cressida and her children were injured, Cressida's dragon flame was put out by Malicia's magic, but Malicia was defeated and banished from Etheria. Malicia fled to Vulcanix Underground, and cast a spell on Cressida to make her lose her spark. SOme of Cressida's children were killed in the battle. The rest decided to leave Eldirtch. Cressida was heartborken. She stayed in her cave and curled up around what little treasure she had left. She had to protect these large jewels from Malicia. Malicia fooled a big bully of a troll to guard the brdige that led to Cressida's crystal cave. He would not let anyone pass, making ridiculous demands.

Malicia kidnapped Prince Edgar, the son of TItania and oberon, king and queen of the fairies, Titania being her sister, Edgar was her nephew. SHe had arranged for Prince Edgar to b e kidnapped as a baby by her ally in the black cloak society, the wicked fairy Lolotte who lived in Tamir. WHen Princess Rosella of Daventry saved Tamir from Lolotte, she revealed Edgar's true nature, he was sent home to his real parents. But Malicia stol him from the celebration in Oberon and Titania's palace.

Malicia turned Edgar into the toll King Ottar Fenris III. He lured Princess Rosella into Eldritch, along with her mother Queen Valanice. Valanice and ROsella saved Eldirtch and defeated the evil Malicia. WHile Rosella was in Vulcanix underground, she gave Cressida a spark of flame, which restored her fire, helped her to fly, and brought her back to normal. Now Cressida is not so depressed, and she has her dragon powers back.

Sorry, somehow I didn't even see that post!

I don't have a problem with your playing her, but as of right now most of the action will be taking place in the world of Daventry -- not that there's no way things could happen in Eldritch, but you should think of ways to get Cressida from Eldritch into Daventry. (That also leaves open the possibility that she is the crystal dragon from Mask of Eternity as well, that's an interesting thought!)
