Title: Tricky Death Traps
Post by: Haids1987 on June 29, 2010, 06:44:24 PM
I was thinking about TSL before I fell asleep last night (and the night before...and the night before...and the night before...), and I was wondering something about the deaths in the game.

'Kay, so in basically all KQ games except 7, there are lots of ways to screw yourself over.  Like for example, if you lose the goat on your way to the bridge, you're pretty much effed.  But on KQ 7, you can just pick up right where you left off and it's all good.

My question: Will the deaths be more KQ I-VI style, where you have the potential to screw up unforgivably, or is it more like in VII, how you can just revert back to where you were before?

(And if you give me any  :suffer:, I might snap...)

In the interview they just did they said it would be more modern, i.e. no dead ends and VII style deaths.

I may be wrong, but I believe I remember reading that there won't be any dead-ends. That said...save often! There are some pretty funny death sequences XD

Well of course! It wouldn't be King's Quest without them! :)

And of course, the witty one-liners.

"Three spikes and you're out!"
"Hey, hey, what a fix!  Bathing in the River Styx!"
"Don't just wander, Alexander!  Let your conscience be your guide!"

I loved those!

Ahem:
"Nothing like getting swept off your feet!" (as Alexander is pulled out to sea)
etc., etc., etc...

Sometimes when I play the sixth game, I'll save just so I can die and hear the line.  :)

It's too bad the TSL team had to truncate the "every cloak has a silver lining" title...Wordplay and double meaning are central to the KQ series.

That's very true.  I especially liked "The Princeless Bride."  ;)

But it's okay, we know what the title "The Silver Lining" means. :)  The play on words still exists to us!

Good point. I think KatieHal mentioned a few times how apt the title "The Silver Lining" turned out to be, with the project experiencing setback after setback, only to finally see a faint glimmer of hope, the silver lining of the cloud.

So it's like the whole wordplay thing has even expanded beyond the scope of the game into the real world! Pretty cool... :scholar:

Same here. When I played KQ2 yesterday, I saved and died just so I could hear the funny death sound. :)

Yeah. I also misstep when you're low on the Cliffs of Logic, just so I can hear Alexander say, "Stop that!"
