I love to quote from movies and games. Kings Quest is one of them. Yesterday I heard fireworks out my window for the 4th of July, I said "Okay you naughty boy, let's go watch the fireworks!" (KQ7). KQ 6 is my favorite to do,though. I hope I'm not the only person who does this.
Every time I'm really thirsty and get a glass of water, the "Ahh, live giving water" quote comes to mind. XD
I never realized how much I do it until now, when I'm playing the KQ games with my boyfriend and find myself explaining. XD
For whatever reason "GASP! A CHASM!" comes up a good bit, and I'm not sure why. :P
Definitely "life-giving water" is something I quote rather frequently.
I feel like I quote Cedric more often than I should, and I know that at least twice I've ended up saying "Graham gives the wand a good shake, but it only fizzles, and dies."
...I'm so much more of a dork when you hang around me in real life. :P

I can honestly say that after hanging out with you in real life, I did not find you to be a dork at all :)
Walking outside in the winter: "Egads! Is that cold!"
Cleaning a messy room that I'm finally making progress on: "He sees light!"
Tripping over a crack in the sidewalk: "Zounds! A trap floor!"
Taking a walk on a hot day: "The hot sun and choking sands are taking their toll on me."
Playing a video game that I finally beat the boss on: "The king is dead."
Answering a question without really answering it: "We shall see!"
...and many, many more. I'll list 'em when I think of them. ;D
If I ever encounter an actual poisonous snake, I will do my best to quote Cedric :)

I do that ALL the time.
Darn crazy Texas weather... XD

I've done that one, too. Occasionally I'll just blurt out lines to myself for no apparent reason; sometimes they just come to mind.
Oh! How could I forget...
When watching a love story: "We're all beasts--without the redeeming humanity of love." ::)
Yeah, the "life giving water" thing comes to mind a lot during the summer...
I mostly quote them with my siblings, who have also played them.
Don't want to get up to get something: "'Tis beyond my reach."
If someone dances strangely: "Is that a new dance, Graham? The bug-a-loo?"
If anybody references a map: "Magic s'map!"
There are probably more. I'll think of them.
I actually quoted "Life giving water" after a long hike on Saturday. It was so random but perfect at the same time.
Yes I love quoting from the kinqs quest games. Sometimes I do it without thinking about it. Other times I like
quoting a lot mostly cedric and shamir. I also like quoting when you die like "dying for a drink graham".
It would be quite odd if I started quoting KQ in real life ::)
And it's not for all of us? XD
Quote from: I_am_so_nifty on July 05, 2010, 06:10:21 PMIf someone dances strangely: “Is that a new dance, Graham? The bob-a-loo?”
I believe Cedric says "the bug-a-loo," playing off the fact that Graham is "dancing" because of the ants (bugs) and the dance called the boogaloo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_boogaloo). :)

It is, but I didn't want to say that out loud ;)
but besides that, at least most of you have english as their first language, so it would be easier to sneak in a quote or two.
Ah, that's true...for someone whose native tongue is not English, it may be a bit odder (more odd?).

Pass by a Lowe's store: Lo, a place to use my map! I can magically transport from here.
Any sort of reference to a fortune teller: You may see Madame Mushka now.
"Tis beyond my reach!"

I just noticed this. I do that a LOT whenever anyone mentions a map, I'll just say "SMAP!" and...well, no one has questioned it yet. XD
That's awesome. I might also consider expressing my surprise with "Zounds!" from here on out.
(Note: I know it's technically "S'wounds".)

Yeah, but the real curse is a really dirty one. I prefer "zounds." ;)
"S'wounds" is derived from "His wounds", referring to Christ, I think. How is that dirty?
It's short for "Christ's Wounds." I just don't like it. It offends me. ;)
Oh, I see. Point taken.
;D
Oh yeah! And
When someone says something stupid: "Be all you mad? What aileth thee!"
If there's something that glaringly red nearby: "Nice! Bright red!"
Oh! It's always fun to drop "Old lamps for new!" with zero context.

Not necessarily... it's like saying crap for the s-word. Though I have known people *eyes his high school* who felt that crap was just as bad as other 4-letter words... but then they also treated "shut up" as though it were profanity (only demerit I ever got... worth it though... kid needed to shut up).
Anywho, euphemisms clearly occupy a lower energy state in terms of the energy of offense. :P (Of course, if your threshold is set lower anyway, that won't matter.)
but the meaning behind the word is the same even though he/she uses an euphanism. you could still replace it with the origional meaning. Only reason I can think of using an euphanism is to not let those that don't know the euphanism (childeren in most cases) know that you are actually meaning something else. But once both the person that uses the euphanism and the person that hears it knows what it actually means I see no real difference then using the origional word :-\
Like when you using a random word like chips instead of a curse. so you won't teach your child cursing, it goes well till your child finds out that everytime you say chips you actually mean something else, then the child knows you are just cursing all the time.
From King's Quest 5:
Gets a drink after being thirsty "Ah, life giving water"
Catching my bro playing with himself, then me telling him, "Talking to yourself again, Graham?" :D
Asking my bro to open his door, "Open Sesame" (knock, knock, knock).
Found something perculiar, "What's this?"
Prevent bro from entering passage way, "It cost one gold coin to see madame Mushka"
This is how much KQ influenced my life!

When my ex was being stupid I used to say "Four morons do I sleep with nightly!"
Also, sometimes if someone impresses me I say, "Like you I do! Go I with you?" They usually think it's a Yoda reference. :(
The game I quote the most though is probably Quest for Glory 1: "Self, you says, that wasn't so bad." (It's from when you fall off the castle wall if you climb over it during the night. :P) I say that in pretty much any situation where I've survived injury to myself... something that happens daily as I'm kind of clumsy. :P

Ha, yeah, I've said that one a couple of times, too.

Or when asking someone where they are going. "Where are you going? Where are you going
to? Like you I do! Go I with you?"
Which is, you know, just expanding it, but it works.
'Tis beyond my reach' is used quite a lot ;)
'What's this, a celestial globe?' (but only used with my friend who played the game with me and understands the in-joke) otherwise it'd just sound crazy ;)
I still remember that line and make fun of it all the time. XD
"Tis beyond by reach!" is probably the one I use most often :)

Funny about how I was right. :P
and when he made an exit from your life did a voice over from amy come up with a witty one liner? ;)
Oh gosh, that'd make break ups a lot more entertaining. Puns from above. XD
Narrating in real life, just thinking about it gives me the creeps, just like when I watched the movie Stranger then Fiction

That would be amazing.
The only thing about that would be you wouldn't get a restart button. If you could pick any death pun from trhe games, what would you choose?
I actually muttered a Graham quote this morning at work! It was dead in the store (I work at the local Big Lots store) and we'd just opened and I was quite bored. See I was running the service desk and there weren't any customers yet. And without thinking, from my mouth spat "I wish I had an owl to keep me company"
When describing a difficult task : (epic voice turned on) "Sooner could he turn the sea to stone... Or Fire to icccccce"
Yesterday, I was at my school's library helping put in new bookcases. Well, we had a few more people than we needed there, so I had some time to just wander about the place. On one of the bookshelves, I found a globe displaying the constellations.
"What's this? A celestial globe?"
It was probably one of my best King's Quest quotes ever. You know, as it was actually relevant to the situation.
My cousin and I went through a stage of quoting "how amusing.. how irritating" to each other all the time when we were kids! It was catching - even our parents started doing it!
...and another good one from VII to annoy your friends:
"To find out more you'll have to go
beyond the woods and far below"

I've been playing the King's Quest games with my father when I was a child. Now The Silver Lining made me play through the games again, enjoying the nostalgia. I came across the idea of collecting the best and most remarkable quotes from the series (see signature). So if you happen to stumple upon one of these, I'd be very thankful if you could post it here :)
"Advice is free, Alexander, making use of it costs much more!" (Ali)
"Home is a hard place to leave, even if you are unhappy there." (Alexander)
"Don't just wander Alexander, let your conscience be your guide." (Narrator)
Quote
Ahh, life giving water. Nectar of the gods.
:D
Also, a classic:
Quote
'Tis beyond my reach!
not exactly a quote but I always bring up the rumpelstiltskin puzzle in the first game whenever I can
"Donk!"
From MoE: "Truth did not come into the world naked, but it came in images. One must pass through the image into the truth."
I like to say that whenever I want to sound smart.
Also when I'm told to go get something, I often come back saying "I have fetched some green mold!"
And whenever I'm pruning the bushes around my house, I like to say, "Alack! The heads do not die!"
I don't really use it in real life, but I really like this quote from King's Quest 1 - Quest for the Crown. Think it's the very last sentence of the game:
QuoteAnd whenever King Graham looked into his magic mirror, he saw visions of adventures yet to come... for him, for his children, and for Daventry, the land he loved so much.
Going a bit offtopic here, but I loved the way, the story was told in KQ 1-6. With both, an animated image and a narrator giving even more detail about what happens. Playing the old KQ games is a little bit like reading an animated book.
Another one that's quoted a lot, at least around here:
:watchout:
(Video courtesy of Jafar the Awesome)
I don't really quote KQ, but I do quote the Gabriel Knight series on a regular basis. And yes, I do quote Cognition sometimes.
"Lying to a federal agent is not something we take lightly" ;D
Sometimes I quote lines but since becoming a teacher, I have been telling my kids the story of King Graham and absolutely LOVE IT. They can't wait until we start Part 4. Which I plan to use in my learning walk for my principle and district video next week :P
That is adorable!!
What do you teach?
:D
What's a learning walk?
That's amazing! Good thinking there. :D
I teach 7-8 years old aka 2nd grade. A learning walk is when the principle, vice principle, and two other teachers come in and watch a lesson that I am teaching to the kids. The lesson has to be a high level critical thinking lesson where the kids have to evaluate what is presented and then draw conclusions.
Basically the idea will be that the student is taking Graham to school with them. They will have to think how will he react to the new surroundings and what do they think will be some problems or successes Graham will have going to school with them.
Example?
There are many outcomes, which makes it higher level learning. I have no idea how this is going to turn out. After Thursday I will be able to give you examples.
Awesome! :D I love exercises like that.
For you maybe but not for the kids :suffer:
That's just awesome, waltzdancing! Looking forward to you sharing your experiences about the lesson :)
Here's another quote I came across:
QuoteIf you find your true love, protect her with your life. We're all beasts without the redeeming humanity of love. (King's Quest VI - Beast)
Appropriate for today.

So, how did it go? :D
I sometimes quote The Narrator from KQ2+. Especially this line:
"Talking to yourself is not really a sign of madness. When you start answering yourself, then you should start seeking professional help."
And do you quote this to yourself? :P
You should quote this to yourself, and then ask yourself out loud: "Why am I saying this?" Then you can answer yourself :D
Sometimes, I prance around in public, singing "Land Beyond Dreams." I get lots of weird looks though.
XD
"I just want, to run and hiiiiiiiiiiiiiide!"
Quote from: Oldbushie on February 20, 2013, 01:41:59 PM
"I just want, to run and hiiiiiiiiiiiiiide!"
Whenever I get to that part, I resist the urge to waggle my fingers in people's faces; partly because it would get me smacked and escorted from the building by security, and partly because I would need four-fingered hands for it to look right.
XD
All the time, LOL. Just like I'm always quoting from movies....
As others have already said, KQV has some of the best.... the always great 'A poisonous snake!', and also 'Ah! Life giving water, nectar of the gods!'.... I swear, nearly every time I have a drink of water, I fight the irresistible urge to say that one! XD
Then there's the more obscure, but equally amusing....
Quote from: GrahamRocks! on February 10, 2013, 11:06:38 AM
"Donk!"
Yay for Paw's LPs ;D
I might start talking to my cat MOE style.
"Hark pathetic beast, why so sad?"
XD
Speaking of MoE, I still remember the first time I ever quoted that game. My mother had just told me to go to bed, and I ominously turned to her before proclaiming "Not me, witch. You!"
Then she smacked me.
When I was like 7, a friend of mine asked if he could borrow some money I had for lunch. I said, "It's against my better judgement, but, okay."
that's an awesome quote Perceval, lol
