Title: Ken and Roberta's comments
Post by: Cez on July 14, 2010, 04:43:51 AM
We'll be posting this in the news whenever traffic allows us to do so!

But we wanted to share this with you:

Comments from Ken Williams:

"Roberta is playing it now .. she seems to be smiling! "

"This is very cool, and bringing back a lot of great memories."

"Roberta  did finish Episode 1. She was a little worried that she finished it so quick (under two hours), but she had a great time playing, and will play the other levels."

"We are amazed that your group has done this!"

And then.... this is what to this day still has me smiling:

"...I am deeply honored that a group of devoted fans have dedicated themselves to reviving the characters, lands and quests of my adventure game series, King's Quest. Without the bravery and persistence of these volunteers – and it should be stressed that this game was developed by fans over ten long years without pay and in their own free time -- it is almost certain that King's Quest would have been relegated to a forgotten obscurity – its story left untold. Now, there is a chance that many can truly find out what happens to the royal family of the Kingdom of Daventry.

This game is very true to the original series and features many of the storylines and characters, especially, of King's Quest VI. I found it beautiful and fun to play. I, too, like many other fans, would like to see how this story unfolds!

It was nice to read that... So now Roberta is also waiting for the next episode, that should be enough motivating to finish it quickly. :)

BTW, I've just finished the 1st episode for the second time and I enjoyed it a bit more than the first time.

True.  Sure, the first episode was a little short, which doesn't really bother me because the quality was excellent and there is plenty more to come.  But like I posted before, this game is true to kings quest and even roberta thinks so.  It would be cool to see how she feels at the end of the game.  Now THATS an idea. Has Jane Jensen been given this episode? Seeing as she co-wrote KQ6, she might be interested....  Maybe you could do an interview with Roberta Williams AND Jane Jensen when episode 5 is released??? Cez, definitely consider this...
It's cool that she played episode 1, but to get the after reaction will be priceless.  Maybe you can interview her for her feelings on the unfinished business in KQ6 (Black Cloak, etc.).  Great to see she is motivated.

Loved your idea about the interview thing, and when the TSL episodes are all released you could talk with Activision and Jane about a possible Gabriel Knight 4 :D

Hearing comments like that from Roberta herself must make you all so proud! ^_^  It's good to hear that she not only liked Ep 1, but plans to play the rest to see how the story unfolds - I think everyone would be interested in hearing her thoughts on TSL as a whole!

High praise indeed! ^_^  Congrats!

I like Big C's idea a lot.

would be nice to read an extensive interview with the creaters of the series after all episodes are released and played. Wonder how they feel about what happend with what they started off.

What an honor to be complimented by the mother of adventure games!  Big congrats to you, TSL team!

I agree with everything Roberta said except this one bit:

King's Quest is immortal.

This is one of the best moments of my life, quite simply. To have Roberta Williams, the queen of adventure gaming (in my opinion), officially endorse this project is great news. No matter what mainstream news outlets say, this game is and always shall be the true King's Quest IX in my opinion. The team has done an outstanding job on this game, and they've spent years making it. They've poured their heart and soul into this project, and it really shows!

Well personally, while I like the game, I think there is no 'true' KQIX and that the continuation of the story is up to any fan's imagination. I don't think placing one fan game as 'canon', when it isn't truly, it's still a fan game, is very fair to any of the other fan writers out there.

Wow that's awesome they have played the first episode. I would like to thank the internet for making this all possible. Without it, no fan games, no interaction and comments from the original creators... i could go on forever. The awesome thing here is we get POS's vision of what would have been to come in 3d, and we get a sidequest from a different company in 2d. Everybody wins really. But thank you POS's for your offering into the series.

It was beautifully done, but I thought there would be more to it since we've been waiting years. It wasnt much further than the demo.
I was happy to see more of the village something that I could only imagine in KQ 6.

I look forward to the next episode!

There are at least two other fan authors out there, as far as I know, that have written their versions of what "KQIX" is to them, and how Shadrack was defeated, LOL.

Did you write one yourself?

¡ Congratulations !

I adore Roberta and all of her adventure games. Long live Graham & King's Quest.

(BTW: I personally wouldn't mind having "true" sequels to Police Quest, Space Quest and Leisure Suite Larry :-) )

EDIT: and, OF COURSE, Gabriel Knight... I Just loved GK2 : The Beast Within...

I don't think any of us would mind having "true" sequels, but I'm not sure we'll be getting them. I suppose TSL could be a wake-up call to Activision and other big companies that adventure games are still viable, if done right and if the right people are behind them. The Monkey Island special editions are a great example of this.
