Title: From PW to MG
Post by: copycat on March 19, 2004, 03:20:58 PM
*drumroll*
/me notices the red carpet he used last time has been rolled out again.
I throw off my dusty Powerful Wizard unform and accept this very shiny bottle as my new home. ;D

Oh yeah, my inauguration speech: I want to thank my parents and grandparent,s without whom I would never have existed. I would also like to thank the other posters of this forum, without whom I would have nothing to reply too. And last, but not least, I would like to thank my new pc, whithout which I would never have been able to reach this title as fast as I did. ;P

Well, technically speaking I'm still in Magical training, but it could never hurt to try, just don't expect too much of me at this stage. 8)

1) could you relocate me to a place of my choice (if so i'll tell you the place, cuz it's no use if you can't)

2) could you give me some new skates

3) could you stop my ageing process (without killing me or freeze me)?

I'd realy appreciate it if you could ; )

I could probably provide you with a transportation ticket to that place of choice, but once there I'm useless.

What kind of skates would you like?

Geez, I'm still trying that out on myself, but I haven't quite perfected it though. :-\

If I had a wish, it would be to wish for people to learn to treat each other and themselves with respect, and just generally be nice to each other. Honestly, everything concerning myself I'd much rather get because I earned it, not because I wished it up or someone gave it to me. I'm anal like that. ;)

I think he just wants to be less of a procrastinator, or have better personal motivation, or something like that. I know I'm like that... if I have a boss or something to motivate me, I'm good to go, but when left to my own devices I'm horrible about procrastinating because I just can't concentrate on stuff. Like right now, I'm posting here instead of working on my websites! ;P

Title: Re:From PW to MG
Post by: Say on March 21, 2004, 09:20:54 AM
oh my, hahaha

Well, you know, all the times  I've had work HR related (completly sided from design or webdesign project field) I've been always the lead of staff and its been my job to be the push of many, I must admit its very rewarding when your staff respects you, and how horrible it is when ppl just think all you are is a pretty face

So, the thing is, I do believe that when people do that is down to 2 reasons, either not motivated enough (not everyone is passion driven) or just lack of trust (personal confidance) either way, I've always seen myself to be proven that you dont need to be a genious, just a strong worker hence SAD TO SAY I've had better experiences with staff that are genually interested in move on and work, rather than geniouses that do miracles in days, why? cuz maybe the same old story of the intelligent vs the not so smart who actually goes study :P, cuz you may achieve it yet not really apply it, so what good is it anyways? in real life it means nothing to be so smart and not be able to actually apply that knowledge.

So, my point is all you need is to love what you do because you are the one doing it, even if you dont think you know it, learn it, never say no and always try to keep yourself competitive, anyone who wants to is actually better than everyone who does and yet not use it.

Instead of being a workaholic I think its better to devote to work, grow with it and enjoy it.

Good thoughts, Say. :)

In my own personal case, though, it's because I'm people-oriented with my motivation. Meaning if I think/know that getting something done is important to other people, I will. But if I feel like the main reason to do something is because *I* think it's important to do, I tend to slack off. I don't have a lot of personal motivation. I need to know that stuff I'm doing has some kind of concrete impact on somebody/something else other than me.

but thats nothing bad at all, all you need is to know how important you are in the work team you are on, to know what is your key role, it is so easy to feel like "someone else" doing "anything" if you dont get the right team or feel you do "actually something", if you are there is because of a reason, noone is going to pay someone to have them do useless stuff anyways, so its an important thing to know how to work on a team but not from the staff perspective but from a lead perspective to feel they all gather, sometimes directives forget to show how important their staff are for them as well as to recognize their achievements (that is also a good thing to keep your motivation going)...

...YA HEAR THAT PANTELIOS!? FUKING WRITE IT DOWN :P lol ;P

Switching someone back is no problem for a more experienced Magical Genie as myself. The first thing a Magical Genie has to learn is to undo other Genie's 'wrong gone' requests.

I have to tell you that my boss is not really a good motivator. That's why we just have to motivate ourselves and each other, and that's been no problem so far. Ofcourse, the atmosphere in our department is also superb, especially when that boss is absent. ;D
Title: Re:From PW to MG
Post by: Say on March 21, 2004, 02:12:49 PM
every single work enviroment is different, it does sucks when your boss is like that figure from a far distance that you only conect when you certainly only must do so, other than that he's/she's better away, that is kind of crappy because it has been proved the better choices you give your employees the better production rate you get, plus your company functions better and you get better status.

Seeing as how I'm in a financial department we don't have a 'production rate' as such. We just have legal obligations we have to adhere to, and we do. Since we're a public company it also doesn't really matter how good it functions, since there's no real competition in our field. However, it's not nice when your department is called the 'least desirable department' in the whole company. :-\

It's like they feel free behind a pc or something but can't talk to persons in real life ; (

I'm pretty much the same personality-wise both online and offline. The main difference is that I "speak" a little more formally online, and I also talk a lot more online. Offline I tend to speak a little more colloquially, and I tend to be a bit shyer/quieter. I'm also a lot more patient online than I am offline. ;]

Reading between the lines is hard enough, leave alone telepathy. It's okay as long as it's limited to this forum, I too would feel awkward if I knew someone was able to know exactly what I am thinking IRL. :X
Title: Re:From PW to MG

Hee. I don't really have a problem with the thought of people knowing what *I'm* really thinking, for the most part. I don't really get embarrassed easily... at least, not about the sorts of things people usually get embarrassed about. Plus I don't personally feel a need to keep a lot of my own secrets. I do keep other people's secrets, though, and I do tend to be a bit *too* honest sometimes, so I guess being a broadcast telepath probably still wouldn't be a good idea. :-[

Title: Re:From PW to MG
Post by: Jeysie on March 26, 2004, 05:31:51 PM
Heh.

I think the main problem is that customers don't understand how retail works. I don't mean that in a rude sense, I mean that in a literal sense. The rules and regs of retail can sometimes be like some sort of arcane magic art, it's no wonder customers get confused! Doesn't help that companies sometimes purposefully try to keep customers in the dark and confused, too. :P

short-term memory loss is no problem, that happens to the best of us, but mid-term memory loss is more serious. XB

<sigh> yeahh, you told us ; ( ...but if you have a bad short term memory, can't you get some compensation?

It's not always the memory alone that helps you pass a test. It's a part of it, but not all, especially not as you get higher up the education ladder. 8)
I've not had my memory tested by a rl doctor yet. I probably don't have the worst memory of someone my age either, but it can't be normal. I know barely a flash here and there from my first years on this earth, if those are not false recollections.  In fact, I think you can only go a few years back for me to remember trivial things. Ofcourse, things that made a large impression on me stay in my memory for a long time. I may not know the exact date of it, but those things I do remember, both the good ;) and the bad :( .
