Title: Never Say Never!
Post by: sierrachild78 on August 18, 2010, 12:37:02 AM
TSL and my fellow adventurers:

First I want to say thank you for putting all your talent and hard work in your spare time...it is really important to us all and we deeply appreciate it. Also another heartfelt thank you to my fellow adventurers, it was us who signed those petitions and wrote those e-mails to Activision to let them know how near and dear this series is to us. Just finished the first chapter. I felt my inner-child glow as I played as King Graham once more. Flame me if you want and tell me to get a life, but I can say I can go to my grave in 40 years or so truly happy and fulfilled that I was able to see King's Quest in it's unadulterated form carry on in The New Century. Looking forward to the last 4 chapters and supporting C9 and all future releases by those that carry on the spirit of the company that was sacred to all of our childhoods and teenage years.

-DY

Couldn't agree more.  It's important stuff indeed, definitely of epic proportions.

I'll have to agree to disagree about it being unadulterated ;)...but yeah, kudos for all the effort and hard work.  :)

Unadulterated meaning back to the original story without the whole Connor and Mask of Eternity thing. But yes I do see your point.

Well, we actually do have MoE in our timeline, but the events of that game don't really come into TSL's story. (You can read some of our Four Winds (http://www.postudios.com/fourwinds/fourwindsindex.html) article's to see what's happened to Connor and everyone else since MoE, though!)

Just FYI, that link's not working.

Yes, personally I would say that TSL sticks to the original series formula better than Mask of Eternity did.   Not saying that MoE was a terrible game or anything, it just didn't fit with the rest of the series that well.

Well I can certainly agree with this.  ;)

In The King's Quest 2 Remake they did somehow include Connor there too.

I rather liked how they fit in future titles of KQ into the KQ2 Remake. The majority of those references were tuned towards the Wind (Growth) Gem Trial, but there were others, like Manannan's note and Morgeilen's "curse" on Graham's offspring. But amongst all of the references, I found the one based around Connor's knighting to be the most significant. Obviously, when the KQ2 Remake was made, there was already canonical evidence that a dragon attacked Daventry, Alexander would be kidnapped and turn into Manannan's slave, and so forth. The Connor scene was really the only reference that was reaching uncharted territories with the series. That's why I liked it the most. It was AGDI presenting what they think was going to happen. It wasn't that important story-wise, but Connor becoming a knight was an interesting component for the Growth Trial.

I'm curious--did KQ2+'s inclusion of Connor's knighting influence POS's decision to make reference to that in TSL's storyline (or at least in that Four Winds issue)?  I know you've said that the plot of KQ2+ isn't reflected in TSL at all, but at least that particular element seems to be consistent.

It's plausible, but I couldn't be sure myself. I mean, Connor saved the entirety of Daventry from an impending doom, all on his lonesome. A simple 'thank you' and a pat on the back doesn't cut it. I always had thoughts that Connor was going to be knighted long before I played the remake of KQ2, so it's not impossible for Phoenix to have a similar epiphany.

No no--I definitely agree that it's perfectly plausible, and seems like the natural progression for Connor's character--I guess what I'm asking is was it a part of TSL's story (or backstory) before KQ2+ came out and solidified the idea in everyone's minds?  I'm hoping a team member will answer this.  :)

Yeah, a team member should answer, I was just adding what I thought.  :P

All I've heard from a team member (Katie I believe) concerning Mask of Eternity is that it happened and isn't being ignored, but the games' ramifications isn't affecting the plot that is occurring in The Silver Lining. Aside from that, I haven't heard much about the details concerning Connor, Lucreto's disappearance, the reforging of the Mask, etc. It'd be interesting even if a Four Winds newsletter tapped into more than just, "Connor was knighted and married Sarah". Some real interesting fan-fiction can be had with the endgame of MoE. It was the first King's Quest to introduce myth that was related to divine powers. While not a god, the Mask upholds Truth, Light, and Order. Lucreto being the servant to the Mask, was cast down to an almost Lucifer-like status, and then was banished to an eternity in Limbo (or wherever). Doesn't need to be related to TSL, but definitely should be examined for fan-fiction.

I dont' remember actually. The original issue of the four winds with that article came out in 2002 I believe? Now, I don't know if it happened before or after the KQ2+ release in all honesty, and I really don't remember if it was influenced by it. Could have been, again, I don't remember.

I do know that at one point we contacted AGDI and tried to share story ideas to keep the games consistent, but they declined the offer.

The Mask of Eternity and Connor played a much more important role in the full version of TSL. In this edited version, not so much. But you will find a reference or two in the game.

Well, Daniel Stacey declined it, IIRC. He's the one who wrote the screenplay and mythology of KQ2+ and didn't really want to share it, a neat idea though it was.
