I tried using the bag of gold with the map merchant but nothing happened, what am I missing?
You need to do something in order for Graham to realize that he needs a map. The one that you see right now is just a way for you to tell Hassim that you need to go somewhere. You actually do not have a map in your possession.
Hassan + Hakim = Hassim? XD
Oh well I guess I'm just stuck in general, I got the fishing pole and necklace and combined them, got the nightshade, hole in the wall, lethal liquid, and went into chessboard land but couldn't do anything there. What do I need to do next?
Maybe you can show the bookshop owner an item you have so that he can help you on your quest...

Dang it...
Team members, I think this shows how scattered I really am right now!
I already tried using the necklace and fishing pole at both docks but it didn't work.
Ok, I've heard this works, but I've not played the game through after this update was done. Have you tried:
using the scroll on Hassan or Ali?
Yes it was right under my nose, typical of King's Quest games lol. Thanks!
You are very welcome!
Hi,
could it be I have a bug or something? Can't obtain map.
Using the scroll on Ali he tells me to check out the books which I have done, several times. I can cite from all of them. ::) Using the scroll on Ali has no effect "why would you do that now?"
When map seller asks if I want to buy map, Graham keeps saying "maybe"
I have: bag of gold, evil cloth, poisonous liquid, night shade flower, hole in wall, fishing pole, scroll for ingredients.
Please help me. I'm about to give up. :-[
Give the map seller a piece of gold. At this point Graham should at least ponder that this would be a good place to buy a map. You have to use the bag of gold on the merchant to buy a map, then show the map to Ali.
And read all the books from the back shelves, I hear the familiar tune that signifies Graham has done something right, but I never saw any points system in this game.

read all the books, go in the castle and talk to shamier, talk to hassan, talk to the book shop owner, read every book from all 4 different shelves, show ali the scroll, then buy the map. ali will tell you you need the map/

Nope - there is no point system. There was at one time, but they abandoned it. The tune you hear does indicate that you've done something you needed to do, though. (And something that would give you points if there were any. :P)

Thanks so much. I would never have offered the money before stating that I wanted a map. Duh!
