This is a nice little game I stole from the AGDI forum ;]
Game rules:
I'm posting a distorted screenshot from some adventure game. Whoever identifies the game and the screenshot location in it, gets to be the next to post a distorted screenshot of his/her own! And whoever identifies THAT screenshot gets to post another one... and so on and so forth.
If no one guesses correctly, the poster of the screenshot can give hints/a less distorted screenshot :)

This is a short int eh dark, but this vaguely reminds me of the opening screen in QFG1 (ya knowm, teh entrance to the town?)...but pleas dont laugh at me if that's totally wrong, seeing how I'v never played QFG, except a teeny bit of the 1st, and the 5th.

hmmmm don't know many mosaic games ; ) ....but it looks like two monks (in robes) with a church like backround (ie. a window or so) lol, I have no idea ; /

It appears like 2 guardian lion statues are on the podiums.
the red thing to the left of the center looks like a crate of apples or tomatoes.
the whole thing sort of looks almost like an alley or the entrance to a small town or marketplace.
the yellow thing in the center looks like a light.
So, even though I cant guess where it's from, am I even REMOTLEY close Storm?
Well, you were right about the center thing being a light... and those are (sort of) two podiums. The other guesses are way out there ;)

no.. no... you all are way off... Its a planetarium with a sun in the center, and model planets... If i had to guess the game, itd one of The Adventure Game company games, or Myst... the graphics seem remeniscent of em...

yes!! it looks like a planetarium to me too.... but the only planetarium i can recall in an adventure game would be the one in ff7.... and s\this doesn't look like it
Yeah, I remember that planeterium too... in fact, I think the only other one I remember in a game was from Castle of Doctor Brain.... which that picture aint... ::)

How do you blur the screenshot like that Storm ???
I used a program called photoimpress", but you could do a blur with filters/effects of almost any imaging program. Of course, you don't have to use the same filter I used... :)
ok, this probably wont be a hard one. Unlike Zork Nemesis, its not very obscure. Oh well, if you guess it in one post it just means I get to guess someone elses screen shot sooner :)

hehe TAAADAAAA got that one right with some adventure gamer smooth style skills there ET...and miss Katie I highly recommend this one (try the ScummVM emulator with the Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle speech version for winXP)....and here all clear for everyone...

Never heard of it (which is normal, I've played almost no adventure games.) The only games I've played were. Laura Bow 1 and 2, Lost in Time, (some of it), All the KQ's except MoE (which I don't consider a KQ anyway), and a very very small amount of Myst.

hmmm.... train/station game? ...the only game i can recall playing which contained a train + station if ff7. and that screenshot isn't from ff7 ; )

The only modern adventures I know of off-hand that had train stations in them are Syberia and Gabriel Knight 3... and the train station in GK3 looked nothing like that. So, Syberia? ;)

Hi-res game with a trainstation? I'd say Grim Fandango (one of the few hi-res games I did play), except that the trainstation there looked completely different :-\
Grim Fandango had a "living train" station at the end...but I don't remember any red there...*ponder*

Hmm. I think that the darker green at the top is trees. The lighter blue in the top is the sky, the lighter green at the bottom is either bushes or grass, and the greyish/blueish part going through the middle is a river. For some reason I think that green part in the middle of the sky looks like an island, I think I see a bit of brown that could be dirt on the bottom of it. I have very late comments for the one before this one: I've never played a single game with a train...and my stupidity comes out when I kept looking everywhere for this thread. Well, thanks for the welcome-ing (especially the large pink one ;))

That screenshot was easy, from the second pic on... It was actually one of the first screenshot they published. I remember it pretty well because I saw it before playing the game, so when I reached that screen I thought "isn't it supposed to be a horse there?". That's how I solved that puzzle ;P

Awesome game, though the voice got a bit out of sync at times. :S
I second what Jeysie said. It's an interesting game, pretty dark underlying theme, but it's pretty funny at the same time. It's a bit odd that in CLOSED captioning, RANDOM words tend to be CAPITALIZED FOR no particular REASON.
I think that most, if not all of Revolution's adventure games have a higher FPS rate than normal. The animation if incredibly smooth because of this. It's almost hypnotic.

Making it funky:
Any image program other than Paint is likely to have a bunch of "filters" or "effects" available somewhere its menus that can be used to distort an image. Worse comes to worse, you can just "blur" it.
If you need a program, Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) is a free one for Windows. Go to Image -> Effects in the menus and play around.
Putting it in a post:
At the bottom of the Post Reply screen is a field that says "Attach". Click the "choose" button, browse to the file from the menu that pops up, and hit "Open". Then when you click "Post" it will upload the file to your post.

Well i have got that but I forget how to get a screen shot while playing a game?
The easiest way is, when the scene you want is on your screen, hit the Print Screen or Prt Scn button on your keyboard. (It's probably on the upper right.) Then open up your image program and choose "Paste" (or just hit Control-V).
If that doesn't work, try hitting Alt-Print Screen instead.
If that still doesn't work, then it gets a little more annoying, and we'll have to start poking into some settings. :P

BMPs and JPGs are image formats. GIF and PNG are also image formats.
You can make a file smaller by:
1. Resizing it smaller. (Example, from 640x400 to 320x200.)
2. Saving it as a GIF, PNG, or JPG instead of BMP.
3. Saving it with fewer colors and/or less quality.

Generally speaking .JPG is a good format to use for the web because it is both compressed (and thus comes over modems and broadband) faster AND still has good image quality. .GIF is good for line art and items with few colors. .BMT and .TIF are uncompressed files and are good for publishing but take forever to download and aren't supported by all OS's or browsers...

QFG is Action/adventure though. For some strange odd reason I dispise that. Therefore, I'm sticking to Kings Quest, Laura Bow, Lost in Time, and Return to Zork. Those are the only games I've playing and I'm sticking by them!

I remember watching the opening scene lots of times when I was really little trying to memorize Land Beyond Dreams. I sung it way higher than it was supposed to be but I sounded great. It is Chrono Quest 1, the starting up scene at your home castle, where you have to find the time machine your uncle or dad with which you have to travel to go find him.

No... the new LOTR and Hobbit games are full 3d, not pre-rendered. They're also action games made for consoles, which disqualifies them to begin with (for me at least).
This game is a bit older - it's from 1996.
There are older 2D LotR games(LotR's not exactly new ::) ). I doubt any of them had pre-renderd 3D graphics though.
The Two Towers, is the only thing I can think of(the word "ringwraith" only brings Tolkien to mind).

Ding ding ding!! Jeysie has it! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galazy, in all of its text adventurey goodness it is! I remember always hearing it was a nearly impossible game, and the first five minutes of it alone were a terror to get through, since if you didn't do *exactly* what you needed to, your house was run over by the bulldozer.
Hee, talk about a lucky guess! (Although I would have gotten it if the text had been readable, too... I suspect that not many text adventure games have a bulldozer bearing down on one's house.)
The first part of the game is tricky, though surmountable if you've read the book. There are large parts of it which are a nightmare whether you're Hitchhiker clued-in or not. (The Babel Fish puzzle is particularly infamous. :P )
Anyhoo. I have a game in mind... just need to re-install it and play up to a good screenie. Hopefully it won't take too much time to do.

Depends on what image program you have. You'd want to see if it has any "effects" or "filters", then just play around with them and see what works. I use "ripple", "watercolor", then "mosaic" just for good measure. ;)

What program do you use, Jeysie?
I use iPhoto Express (http://www.ulead.com/pe/runme.htm), which is commercial software that came bundled with my computer many moon ago. I use it for "fancy" editing (like screenshot blurring) and JPGs.
I also use Irfanview (http://irfanview.com/), which is a nice little freeware image utility, although I haven't gotten to play around with its effects extensively. I use it for "simple" editing and GIFs and PNGs.

From my experience, different DOS games react differently to the print screen key (and other kinds of screen taking programs.) Usually the ones that take full control of your graphics card are the ones that wont let pictures be taken. This applies to many windows based games too.
OK, I guess I'll throw out a couple more clues, then.
- It belongs in the 1998+ era of adventure games.
- Due to some technical difficulties the screenshot is from one of the game's cutscenes, not from a main play screen. :P

This particular game is definitely worth checking out... original story with a great twist that is very well oriented... beautiful graphics and wonderful sound... unlike most of the games put out by the adventure company that just seem thrown together.

I'll give you a hint since I think I distorted it too much: the color that's different from all the others, in the left of the screenshot, is key to identifying the game.
PS: I did edit the colors when I distorted the screenshot, but that color even without the editing is still much different than the others.
I dunno what the game is, but it makes me think of a scene or a photograph of people at a party of some kind... they all seem to be wearing fancy clothes. The third blob from the right in particular looks like a woman with poofy short hair wearing a sleeveless cocktail dress and holding a drink.
No idea what the blob on the far left should be, though.

Rosella? If you're having trouble blurring the picture you can use Windows Moviemaker (assuming you have it and your version is #2) Then you just go to file import and find your picture and drag it into the bottom little field. then you go to tools video effects and when you've found a good effect you can drag it onto your photo and press the take picture button.

Of course, I did get back from work yesterday (and then went there again and came back today), and I had this game I've just finished for the screenshot... unfortunately, the screen-capture program I installed had some weird side effects, such as crashing the computer, painting the entire screen green and messing up the registry. By the the time it booted up again, it was too late and I was too annoyed to post :-\

The only Fable I know of is the RPG for XBOX. That was also remade with a longer story for PC and XBOX, which was named Fable: The Lost Chapters.

For those of you who don't know DragonSphere, it's a lovely little game with an interface that reminds you of LucasArt's SCUMM, graphics that remind you of KQ6, and a voicepack that reminds you of KQ5 (yeah, it's really that bad :P). I finished it a while ago, and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys games with nostalgic feel and interesting plot twists ;D
I got the game from an abandonware site so I can't link it here, but I'm pretty sure it's legal (since the original link was on a legitimate gaming site). I'm sure you can find it yourselves ;)
The game runs just fine with Dosbox (VDMSound screwed up the speech for me for some reason). Oh, and watch out for that in-game copy protection ;)
