Title: The fate of the snowman
Post by: B'rrr on April 01, 2004, 02:56:29 AM
This poll is created to find out what to do with snowman after he has 'served his purpose' and starting to deteriorate.

the reason this poll was created is to make sure the uglu mug thread  (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=10;action=display;threadid=563;start=660#msg28924) stay's on topic ; )

...well actually the reason was to find out if there is need for an organisation that protects and takes care for the snowman and put an end to all the misery they have to go through ; ( ....

you could use a plane with a 'cool area', if you really want to save the snowman!! in that case the snowman wouldn't melt....
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman

but firstly i would have to fly to another state in Australia to make the snowman :-\, so there is no point in making a snowman in the first place ;P

I'd make it a snowwoman, of course.  However, this isn't really a logical argument, since snowmen are in actuality, inanimate objects.

just because you don't think it doesn't live and care don't mean it doesn't!! lol, you never even had the pleasure of making a snowman, so you wouldn't know for sure... and even if you did there is still a possibility ; )

I say let him melt. He'd probably want it too.

Snowman have shorter lifespans than us, but that's the natural order of things. Delaying natural death helps nobody.

To quote Citizen Kane, "Old age. It's the only disease, Mr. Thompson, that you don't look forward to being cured of."

Would you rather live out the rest of your days as a fragile and bitter old man, surviving only by putting off death?

I would rather die. Make a good end, leave somewhat of a legacy behind me, but leave. Everyone has to go someday, we might as well embrace it.
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman
Post by: B'rrr on April 01, 2004, 05:42:54 AM
but there is an posibility to let a snowman live forever!!

*song of queen pops my mind ; )*

so there would be no natural death cause for a snowman... only deliberate ; (
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman
Post by: The Fat Emu on April 01, 2004, 05:46:30 AM
Nonsense. Letting him die is not deliberate. If I'd never met him before, he would die in the same manner. As would all of his kin. Snowmen are built, the lucky ones may find snowwomen, settle down and have snow kids, but they all have to melt someday. If we suddenly tried to preserve all the senior-citizen Snowmen before they melted, they'd soon overwhelm our population. A war would be inevitable.

And besides, the world is far too populated by humans as it is. Preserving all the humanoid snowfolk is just digging ourselves deeper into the hole.

QuoteI want to live forever but keep my body so its young , so im actually 120 but i look 20

Well, that's the human dream, isn't it. But imagine if everyone did that.

Think of how overpopulated the world is now. If nobody died, it would suddenly become extremely overpopulated. The cost of housing would rocket, and traffic would never move.

And what happens when you have a bunch of exasperated, able bodied young men? That's right. A war.

In conclusion, it really wouldn't work out well. Why should we fear death anyway? It's inevitable. We should not fear it. We should look at death as part of all life, and love it just as much.
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman
Post by: B'rrr on April 01, 2004, 05:59:46 AM
Racx.... you are 15.

btw since snowman are build and not bred, there will be no snowkids... unless they are created too ...so there would be no overpopulated mountain without the undoing of mankind!! if it comes to a war, it is our own fault... but why would snowman take over sunny land? there is no point in it!!

...it is all 'bout beeing responsible for what you create!! would we abandon our creation just cuz we don't see the meaning of it ...and let if melt away in ...pain?? ; (

Post by: J-ROC on April 01, 2004, 11:13:55 AM
I chose "None of the Above".

I have experienced much snow.  Many times.

I have been in piles of snow much taller than I.  I have been in snow-forts.  I have been in many snow-ball fights.  I have gone sledding down snow covered hills.  I have skiied in snow.  I have made snowmen (destroying some, letting others melt).  I have had snow down the back of my shirt.  I have been hit in the face with snow.  I have had to shovel snow out of my driveway, only to have a snow-plow take the snow from the street and put it in front of my freshly shovelled driveway.  I have lost control of my vehicle in the snow.  I have been pulled off the roadway and into a ditch because of snow.  I have been unable to see while driving because of snow.  I have received frost bite because of snow.  I have worked in snow.  And with snow, there is ice.  I have skated.  I have played hockey.  I have slipped and bruised my butt on ice.  I have lost control of my vehicle on ice.  When there is ice and snow, it is cold.  I have been in cold to -45oC.  Things freeze and don't work in the cold.  Especially me.

I don't like the cold.

I don't like ice.

And I can assure you, I don't like snow.

And that is why I voted for "None of the Above".

Title: Re:The fate of the snowman

To be able to live forever, we'd have to give something in return, and that would be having kids. In that way, there would be no overpopulation. However, over time, even if we moved regularly, we would have seen everyone on the world, so I'd think it'd get a bit dull. I wouldn't mind living a bit longer than most people do nowadays, but eternal life? Nah.

BTW, Snowmen need to be preserved, so they should get their own reservation on the top of a mountain with eternal snow. XB

The more snow you have to shovel out of your driveway, the more snow you can use to make your snowman! ;D
Our street is not (EDIT by copycat) important enough to have a snow-plow drive through it. :P

I have lost control of my car in the snow deliberately, so it wasn't really losing control, yet it was (I lost control for a short time).

Title: Re:The fate of the snowman

The only time a snow plow is good is when they pile all of the snow on the street on your yard.  That way you can build a huuuuge snow fort.  Snow forts = fun.

As for -45oC...imagine working outside in that for several hours.  Needless to say, that was one of those days where I say "I hate my job."

As for building a snowman in that...yes, it is too cold.  The assistance of water is required.

I'm afraid even a snow plow on the street could give us enough snow to build a huuuuge snow fort. Maybe a small one... :-\

A comfortable bed.
A moderately sized TV (36" or greater) and Sattelite.
An X box to go with the TV.
A DVD player to go with the TV.
A surround sound system, preferably 5.1 dolby digital.

I agree. It's a predicable continuum... people who live where it only snows a little or not at all think the stuff is great (or at least fascinating), while people who live where it snows a lot wish they could pack up all the snow and ship it to the former group. ;) (Well, unless you like to ski.)

I think snow is best when you're a kid... all you have to do is go play in it... you don't have to clean it up. You also might get to miss school.

But when you grow up, you have to clean the snow yourself, you actually have to get to places travelling through the snow, and your boss expects you at your desk even if it's a raging blizzard, then snow starts to suck.

Peace & Luv, Liz

well... most grown up are so.... old, (note: not all!!) ...kids seems to enjoy more things then grown-ups do ; /

so if i'm a kid... i like it, till a certain point. I know a man (34) who still acts like a puber (17) and that is not a thing to be proud of.

but i do think it is cool when grown-ups can enjoy the little things in life like a kid does (without losing the sense of responsibility)

....I don't want to get dull, nor boring, nor do i want to see life as something that has to be lived and nothing more. there are lots of stuff to enjoy in life, just have to be able to see it (hmmm... ironicly i'm a bit blind right now)

ps. this is not only about snow ; ) and only my experience... lots of ppl disagree (luckily)

I feel old, even my sisters are both teenagers now. 14 and 16 they are. And I'm almost 20 this year.

I feel old because many of my online friends are younger than I am.

I feel young because many of my offline friends are older than I am.

I'm confused. ;)

Most definitely. I'm 11. :o

Bah. I'm almost always the youngest one. Then someone like you always has to come by and steal my title from me, like a common thief!
I'll never forgive myself for turning fourteen.

I think the majority of folk are younger than me here.

IRL, most of my friends are about the same or younger.

I'll go get my cane. :)

I still think it's strange. Kings Quest is over 10 years old, and few people here are over 30. I guess most of the original players stopped playing games.

i am 16 so im alot younger than KQ, but there is nothing wrong with that is there :S ???

BTW i only know how to pass KQ6 the hard way ;), i have never finished it the easy way :S
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman
Post by: B'rrr on June 05, 2004, 06:23:46 AM
me too... i mean finishing the hard way, but it isn't that hard, just longer i guess, cuz iirc i got stuck 'the easy way' so i got back to a previous save game and found out the other way ; )

the easy path; you could blend in with the cleaners (you have to put on beauty's cloths) iirc

I have seen the maid one before ;D, do you get to go into the kitchen or anyother cool places ???
Title: Re:The fate of the snowman
Post by: Jeysie on June 09, 2004, 09:28:34 AM
If you sneak in with Beauty's clothes, then as soon as Alex gets inside, a servant walks past, nags Alex about helping, then disappears into the kitchen. Alex then decides that:

1. He doesn't have time to get caught up in that.
2. Having Cassima see him wearing a dress probably wouldn't be a great idea. ;)

So he takes the dress off straight away. Trying to go into the kitchen just gets a random comment about them being "too busy with the wedding to make lunch for someone", IIRC.

As for cool places, well, you do get to see a different section of the castle.

I finished it the hard way many many times. Once I tried to go the easy way and I found it harder to remember when to stop and I found it very hard to actually finish the thing! Way easier to understand cryptic messages from a ghost and sneak around looking through holes in the wall.

I know... but we have even fewer "old ladies" among the regulars than we do "old fogy men". ;)

How did a two decade old adventure game series manage to get so many young whippersnappers in its fandom? I remember us pondering that a little in NYC, when we realized most (if not all) of the team members were under 30. :P

Besides, I'm the annoying aunt, doncha know.

Quote from: Louisiana Night on June 06, 2004, 03:13:16 PMHere's the basic difference.
You got the guy in charge of the dead to look in the mirror=hard
You did the other thing(that I can't remember)=easy
IIRC In the easy path you had to use the mirror on the wedding Cassima to see who she really was.

Ad for the record, once more, I only 'discovered' KQ about the time when KQ7 came out. Doesn't mean I wasn't playing any adventure games sooner (LSL), but that was the when I found out Sierra has other adventure game series I liked.

Take the snowman, bring him to a mountain with eternal snow, create a snowwoman and let them live happily ever after  <3

Once when I was still young my family and I build a complete snow family in the backyard. Sadly we hardly have snow for a long time.
Maybe my bro can scan the picture and post the family. I believe I seen the picture in one of the photo albums.
