Title: TSL IRC Chatroom! (unofficial)
Post by: atec123 on October 15, 2010, 04:32:25 PM
It's an IRC Chat:
irc.freenode.net
#silverlining-game

connect using mibbit.com, pidgin, mirc, etc.  when I have more time I will write up some more.

keep in mind this is run by me, not Phoenix online.  still it should be pretty sweet.

let the chatting begin!

Ok lets set up a time for everyone to get on.

When can you get on (say your timezone or convert to EST)?

My schedule is totally random, so it's hit-or-miss with me. Just let me know when you guys will be on and I'll let you know when I can be in there! :)

That being said, I'm sick, haven't been to work all week. And probably not this weekend either. Soooooo.... y'know, whenever is fine!

The latest I usually get back from campus is around 5 EST so any time after that is good with me. :P

I didn't even know there was one! I'll have to figure out how to use IRC though...

It's easy.  download an IRC client like mIRC or pidgin or something, and enter the info I gave for it in the first post.

yeah.  or if you feel like being a n00b, you can use mibbit.com for an online IRC client and no download.  it's not as stable or reliable IME though.

I downloaded mIRC, but it's only a 30 day trial, and I ain't gonna go with trial software, so I'm going to try Pidgin, see how that works... If that doesn't, forget it all.

Ok, so it says my username isn't registered... Atec, you're gonna have to tell me what to do here, because I got no idea how to get on this thing... You can tell I've never done this before. I got pidgin btw.

I thought mIRC was free.... maybe they switched it in the past year or so.

What is the recommended way to set up my IRC nickname? Please follow these steps to set up your nick and configure your client. Check off each step to make sure it's been done:

Select a permanent, master nickname. If the nickname you want is registered but has not been used for at least 60 days, just ask a staffer and in most cases, we will be happy to drop it for you.

Please avoid using the name of a community project or trademarked entity, to avoid conflicts. Write down your password and be sure to keep the sheet of paper in a safe place.

Register your IRC nick:
/msg nickserv register <password> <email>
Do NOT include the < or > around your password or email.
To keep your email address private, rather than displaying it publicly, mark it as hidden (which is done by default for new accounts):
/msg nickserv set hidemail on
It's useful, but not required, to have an alternate nick grouped to your account. For example, if your primary nick is foo:
/nick foo_
then identify to your primary account
/msg nickserv identify foo <password>
and finally, group the new nick to your account
/msg nickserv group
Configure your client to identify itself to nickserv automatically whenever it connects to freenode so that it's less likely you'll connect to the network without being identified to nickserv. The easiest approach is to specify your nickserv password as a server password:

If your client supports server password, please set this up as :<accountname> <password>. (Make sure to include the colon, and not the literal < and >.) This will allow you to identify to your services account on connect, regardless of the nickname you are using when you connect. For example:
/connect irc.freenode.net 6667 :mquin uwhY8wgzWw22-zXs.M39p

I am in the chatroom now and will leave my IRC client opened in the background so if someone decides to go on it I may or may not be there.  we should try and get a set time to chat.  this was a great idea I almost forgot about. :P

I believe it had an unlimited free trial a while back, but have since limited it. Pidgin has worked just fine for me, though.
