Title: The (new) Left Handed Alliance Of Left Handed People
Post by: dark-daventry on December 15, 2010, 01:09:18 PM
So, I had made this thread before the Activision C&D, and I'm going to revive it now. Unfortunately, my Mod powers do not extend to archived threads, so I must begin anew. And so, it is in this posting that the (new) Left Handed Alliance of Left Handed People is formed! This thread is for all those Lefties out there who feel the scorn of a predominately righty world. We lefties get no love. Where are our left handed notebooks? Our left handed pens? I don't want to go to a specialized store to get those things! So, for all those Lefties of the forums, come and rejoice with your brethren! We are here! No righty's allowed! (Ok, I actually can't stop you from posting in here, but it's appreciated if this thread, for now, remain Lefty exclusive... I may allow righty's later... We'll see...)

Lefties rock!

Nothing annoyed me more in elementary and middle school than those stupid three ring binders that we were required to have.  You can't write in those if you're a lefty!  You just have to twist your hand and wrist through the rings.  And spiral notebooks were usable, but you always ended up with spiral intents on your arm.  You righties have no idea the stuff you take for granted!

Indeed I am, and proud of it!
Though I guess to be honest I'm a bit ambidextrous; I do most things with my left hand, but I use the mouse right-handed, (attempt to) play guitar right-handed and serve a volleyball right-handed.

XD SAME HERE! Shame on you, righties! We have hands too! We just use our left hands!

I use the mouse right handed myself, actually. It's odd. I do most things left handed, except for using a computer mouse. My teacher is a lefty, and even uses the mouse left handed. Back when I was in seventh grade or something I sprained my wrist (or hurt it in some way from falling off my bike... It wasn't broken, and it wasn't in a cast... It was in something else... idk XD) and had to use the mouse left handed for a little while. Biggest nightmare of my life. My doctor in fifth grade also insisted on giving me a tetanous shot in my left arm. So I walked into school the next day trying to explain to my teacher why I couldn't write with my left hand. Weirdest conversation... ever.

I think with me it was just complacency. When we first got a computer, the mouse naturally ended up on the right side, and I just assumed that it was supposed to be that way and it couldn't be any other way (I was pretty young :P), so I rolled with it, and eventually it didn't even matter.

Hah, nice. I think doctors give you some shots in your dominant arm so that the medicine will spread through your body faster (since you use that hand/arm more, the blood flows more quickly through it, taking the medicine with it). I've never had any shot that was so painful that I couldn't use my arm afterward, though.

Well, I was in fifth grade, so I was young. And tetanous shots always hurt for me. I think it has something to do with the fact that they inject it into your muscle or something. idk. I asked the nurse giving it to me why they hurt so much and she explained it like that. I forgot a lot of the conversation though. Doctor's offices tend to do that to me XD

Alright, I'll allow ambi-dextrous, considering it does technically constitute the left hand... As for feet... I wanna say that's just plain creepy, but at the same time, in intrigues me...

Oddly enough, the dextr part of ambidextrous comes from the latin for right. (Sinister is left.)

As I mentioned above, I am allowing ambidextrous because it is technically using the left hand.

For me, it's mostly picking up things, opening jars, and using remotes.  I am trying to teach myself how to type with them, though, just in case something happens to my hands.  Still, we shouldn't discriminate against people without hands.

Yay for lefties! I too am a left-handed person. Damn pen-smudges... And scissors! Ugh!

Although, through sheer force of habit, I do a fair few things with my right hand. I play the violin right-handed (though it's difficult to switch and messes up an orchestra), and use the mouse and remote with my right hand. I drink ambidextrously too.

Writing with my right hand is completely out of the question, though, so I'm definitely left-handed.

Oh scissors... I just had a horror story with scissors last night at work... I had to cut out some paper things, but my gamestop only has right handed scissors. Let's just say the results were less than pretty...

Funny thing about that; I can actually use right-handed scissors perfectly with my left hand. Ironically, my mom once got me a pair of left-handed scissors and I couldn't use them at all. Go figure.

I've always used my mouse left-handed.  And I don't even reverse the keys.  So I feel like every time I click on something, I'm giving the finger to the right-handed world.  It's a nice morale booster.  I also tend to leave the mouse on the left side of the computer.  Hey, if I have to move the mouse every time I use a computer somewhere, the rest of the world should have to move it back!  Sure, I might sound like a jerk, but hey, enjoy that little taste of my everyday life, righties!

And left-handed scissors are the worst!  By the end of kindergarten I had learned that those special scissors would do nothing except mangle and fold the paper I was trying to cut.  And even worse, they all had brightly colored handles, almost as if the manufacturers wanted to make sure everyone could tell that you were a lefty, just to set you completely apart.  Because of all that, I use scissors right-handed.  There's just no other way to do it.  The world will have a cure for cancer and personal jetpacks before finally breaking the technology that will allow left-handed scissors to actually work.

I use my mouse right handed now, but for a long time I used it left handed.  I learned to use it right handed....welll after my really nice left handed gaming mouse broke.  That was a while ago though.  Now I can use my mouse either way kinda but I have come to prefer right handed.

I can't write anything with my right hand though.  My handwriting sucks in the first place but I have 0 coordination in my right hand.  It just doesn't work for writing.

I use right handed scissors left handed.... it has always worked fine.

I have no such restrictions even when using my left hand. (I use whatever hand is closest to whatever utensil I need. So, forks? Left hand!)

*still working on developing some ambidexterity*

For instance in the office/lab, Linux box is on the right, iMac's on the left, and I keep the mice on the outside of the configuration so that I use the mouse with my left-hand on the iMac but with my right on the Linux box.

*should get back to practicing left-handed writing at some point*

that's awesome that you have linux and mac at said office/lab.

is it entirely windows free?

As I said before, I don't really do left handed mouse, and I am not gonna learn it  now, because it's not really worth it I don't think.  I am left handed for almost everything else though.
