Title: Welcome Newcomers!
Post by: KatieHal on January 01, 2011, 10:47:46 AM
Hello and welcome to Phoenix Online's forums! If you're new here, feel free to introduce yourself and tell us a little something about yourself here! :)

Okay, so I've been around for a while but with the reorganization of the forums, I realized that I never properly introduced myself, so I'll kick off the thread by doing that now. :)

To begin with, my real name is Jonathan, though I have a variety of nicknames which are what I'm better known for; hardly anyone besides my family call me by my real name. I won't mention them here though, because I doubt anyone really cares. ;)
My biggest hobbies are computers, computer gaming and anime. My username, Enchantermon, even testifies to this; it's a character I invented for Digimon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digimon), which is the show that got me interested in anime as a whole. Also, my current avatar is Ryo from Digimon Tamers. Other favorite anime shows are Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurren_Lagann), Full Metal Panic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Metal_Panic), D.Gray-man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.Gray-man), The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haruhi_Suzumiya), Lucky Star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Star_(manga)) and Kanon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanon) (the 2006 anime, not the game :P).
As far as gaming is concerned, I'm mostly into FPSes (First Person Shooters), but I also love adventure games (or else I wouldn't be here) and am prepping to dabble in more RPGs (Role-Playing Games). My favorite games are System Shock 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_Shock_2), Thief 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_2), King's Quest VI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King's_Quest_VI), Half-Life 2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2) and Portal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_(video_game)).
I am an amateur writer; nothing short of a miracle would get anything I write to see the shelves of a store (or even Lulu), but I do have several of my dabblings sitting on teh internetz at FictionPress (http://www.fictionpress.com/~enchantermon). My Digimon fanfics are linked from there as well, but I was pretty young when I wrote them, so they're...well, interesting, to say the least. :P I also blog, though I haven't in a while; my musings are on Xanga (http://enchantermon.xanga.com/).
I'm also an active Let's Player with a couple related threads in the Creativity (http://www.postudios.com/blog/forum/index.php?board=68.0) section of the board.
I recently graduated from college; I have an AS in Bible and a BS in Computer Information Science, with a concentration in Network Security, currently unemployed. I'm also A+, Network+, Security+ and Linux+ certified.

Other random facts about me: I'm a Christian. I'm single, never dated and never been kissed. I'm a virgin. I'm straight. I love Legos. I love The Chronicles of Narnia (movies, books and radio dramas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_on_the_Family#Radio_theater)). I own the entire Animorphs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animorphs) series. I'm a hopeless romantic and a very emotional person. I'm a percussionist and play on the praise team in my church. I'm a little OCD (but still very messy) and also a little hyperactive. I tend to sometimes talk (or type) before I think. I like Star Trek, but not as much as anime. I'm a horrible procrastinator. I enjoy pina colodas and getting caught in the rain (just kidding ;)). I love making people laugh. I don't smoke. I don't drink, save for one time when I had a little celebratory sake when I graduated college (so I'm not opposed to drinking, I just choose not to). I love the original Mountain Dew in all its different packages, though bottled is the best.

I think that's all, then. Sorry if I rambled on a bit; I have a tendency to do that. It's the writer in me. :P

Well I've obviously been around for awhile, but it never hurts to reintroduce myself to those newbies who come around. :)

I'm Hailey and strangely enough, I really am called Haids by my family.  I live in a suburb of Seattle that you've never heard of, and I drink coffee like a true Seattlite (even though I  hate Starbucks. :shock: )  The Chronicles of Narnia are my absolute favorite books of all time and I will bore you to tears going on about the religious parallels in the books.  I love Harry Potter, I do enjoy Twilight (sorry, guys, I have to be honest :vampire: ), and I read pretty much anything else I can get my hands on.  I am a total word nerd!

Like Enchantermon, I am a straight Christian virgin.  I love to scrapbook, my big sister is my favorite person in the world, and I crack my knuckles.  I work with toddlers, my birthday is May 9th, and I most definitely fit the Taurus stereotype.

Okay.  I think that's me in a paragraph or two.  Welcome, newbies!

Hello! My name is Kristen. I'm 22 and a college student. (I start my last semester in a week or so). I'm a huge Harry Potter nerd. I quote the books and movies like it's my job. Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows Part 1 are my favorite of the bunch. I also LOVE Disney. I quote those movies too. I'd love to make it to Disney World at least once in my life. I like the Narnia movies and now want to go read the books. King's Quest 6 is my favorite KQ game of all.

As my screenname says, I love to write. I wrote fan fictions as a teenager, but now I'm all about original characters. I'm a hopeless romantic, so all of my stories involve couples and what that entails. (I've only had one relationship so far but it's a lot of experience to draw upon. Let's just say I know what I don't want after that one :P)

What else can I say? I'm Christian, I'm a virgin, I don't drink or smoke. I tried homemade wine once and hated it. Hence why I don't. And I'm opposed to whole charade of getting drunk and all that. But that is another story for another time. I dislike coffee.

Anyway, that's a little intro into my psyche. Welcome new people, one and all!

Funs! :D

My name is Tess, and I've been around a good while as well. I'll be 23 in February. I'm currently attending grad school for a masters in computer science along with my boyfriend.

I've spent most of my life in North Carolina and it would be fine with me if I never left, love it here.

I love most anything fantasy/sci-fi and spend most of my free time reading fantasy books, playing computer games, and posting here. I also like to cross-stitch and put together jigsaw puzzles.

I'm rather shy in real life and tend to not talk a lot, I have my belly button pierced, and I like having longer hair but I wear it in a half-pony tail everyday as I don't know what else to do with it. I can't stand the taste of coffee, beer, or wine. I prefer programming in Java as that's what I know best.

Enough random stuff about me. :P Welcome to the forums, new peoples! :D

Huh.  I haven't done one of these yet.  I guess I should start now.

I'm Lady Terra, though my name isn't actually Terra, nor am I a Lady or any sort of nobility, though I am female.  I'm 23 and graduated college six months ago with a BS in Computer Science.  I'm sort of a well-rounded nerd with interests ranging to various books, TV shows, movies, comics, playable trading cards, cars, and tabletop RPGs (so far, I like DnD 3.5, Exalted, Scion, Pokethulu, Anima, Mutants & Masterminds, and Kobolds Ate My Baby).

My passion is for video games.  I started out playing fighting games in the arcade, but it wasn't until Tekken 3 that I realized that this was what I wanted to do with my life.  I love programming (despite how frustrating it can be), but I'm also interested in art, so I'm experimenting with various programs while I look for a job.  Officially (such as those cards teachers have you fill out to introduce yourselves), I like to say that I want to corrupt the minds of children, which is true in a way.  I like to make people laugh, and I tend to do so without realizing it.

I'm currently Agnostic and dating a Catholic.  We're currently working on plans to take over the world.  I've never gotten drunk, but I have had Schnapps on occasions and spiced wine when sick.  I can't drink anything carbonated, but I like using beer, soda and rum in cooking.  I love making stuff, and I tend to become interested in too many things at once, but at least I rarely get bored.  I also love animals, and I would hug everything if I could.

So, I don't think I ever really introduced myself properly on the forums here, except for my meet the mods thread... But I'll post something here too.

So, my real name is Chris McDermott. I'm gay (in fact, I just recently came out on the forums, and so far I have universal approval!), single and never been in a relationship with a guy that lasted more than three hours tops (which means I've never been in a relationship with a guy. The first guy I ever went on a date with ended horribly. But let's not go into that. You can find out more in my coming out thread...) I'm also a virgin, but that's no surprise considering I'm a 19 year old geek who is so not popular. I've been bullied and teased in life, but I've become a better person because of it. I'm also Atheist/Agnostic. I'm not opposed to the idea of a higher power, but I'd like to see some legitimate proof. I'm sorry, but a book doesn't cut it for me. But even though I lean more towards the Atheist side of things, I respect other religions, as long as they respect me and who I am. I do however have a HUGE issue with the Westboro Baptist church. They are homophobic, racist and just about every other type of prejudice in the book.

I love adventure games. Why else would I be here and work for phoenix? But I also love TV. I have an extensive DVD library consisting of 23 seasons of Star Trek, the complete Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis series and too much more to actually document. The final number ranks somewhere in the hundreds. I'm a science fiction geek obviously, but I do love Anime and Manga as well, particularly Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon, Ronin Warriors (the complete collection of which is actually my most prized possession... Weird, I know. But I'm just a weird person...) and oh so much more. If you want to learn more about me, just ask. I'd be happy to tell you more, so long as you're respectful.

Oh, and I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. I know people that do (all three) but they're still good people and still my friends. I just never partake in those actions. But my reasons for not drinking are actually a safety issue. I have a genetic ticket to being an alcoholic, and so I have made the decision to never have a sip of alcohol. 19 years and I'm still sober. I'm pretty proud of that.

I'll drink Mike's hard lemonade and other drinks that hide the taste of alcohol. Granted not very often, but on occasion, and then there was the summer I had my internship... so no XD

Thank goodness!  I was starting to think I was the forum's wild child. :P  This "hide the taste of alcohol" thing is my way too--I usually only drink things that taste like juice.  (Which is more dangerous, I think. ::))

Trust me, you ain't the wild child of the forums. That'd be me. My introduction leaves some leanway for some unspoken acts that I shall not repeat...

Whenever I've had alcohol, I've been around people I didn't know, so I make sure I'm still lucid.  There was one time where a friend of mine tried to get me drunk, but it backfired on her.  Hilarity ensued.   ;)

Yeah same deal.... been here a long time, but never wrote an intro thing so...I am atec.  But I don't  actually go by that in real life.  In fact this is one of the only places I go by that.  I came up with it a few years ago and signed up on a few forums with it, but that's about it.My real name is ben, but  I go by my middle name thomas (I go by tommy or  tom though   whatever, no one cares about names on a  forum....I am 14 years old at the moment.  In about  3 months I will become 15 years old, by some   sacred magic I don't know much about called teh birthdais.I am somewhat of a computer nerd, but not really.  I use linux and I know quite a  bit about computers and play some adventure games and such, but I don't really fit many of the stereotypes that would make someone a "computer nerd"  it's just not my style of life, lolz.If you knew me, you would know that I  am seriously into skateboarding (more specifically, what n00bs would call "longboarding") and music.I am really into music.  I seriously might not be alive still if it wasn't for music.  Lets just say that 11-13 years old sucked really bad and if it wasn't for my green day obsession at the time, I wouldn't have had much to live for.  (A scary thought, really)  Music is art.  Beautiful art that can vary so much.  I listen to everything and anything.  My favorite genre is probably (good) rap.  rap is amazing when done right.  not only the sound and "flow", but the lyrics behind it can bring up powerful, well explained points with passion and I have a lot of repect for that and get a lot of enjoyment out of it.  My favorite band of all time is Mew, and I don't see that changing any time soon.I has a stroke at birth and   survived a major concussion at the end of 2009, but somehow I am alive and completely fine aside from having a terrible memory.  In fact most of my friends don't even know that and there is no reason for anyone to know, because I luckily wasn't  effected badly by either.I haven't really ever dated anyone, because in middleschool I was like the only person who thought it was pointless at that age, with all the drama and stupid people.     Drama  sucks.Actually though, I  actually am sort of dating a really amazing girl right now, and have been for like 2 months.  it's  not "official", but I don't care, that's just another one of those    stupid highschool relationship things IMO.  it will be "official" someday soon hopefully, but that wouldn't really change anything.I Believe in    God, Jesus,  The Holy spirit, the bible, etc.... but I don't really like to classify myself as a Christian.  I feel like a bit of a hypocrite for saying that, because my main problem with Christianity is all the denominations and nitpicky organized religions.  If everyone believes in the same basic stuff, they should all be able to worship together and get along if they feel like it.

Not much else to say... but I just realized I have never showed a picture of myself on these forums... that will have to change at some  point...

Nice to meet you, Atec! I didn't post photos of myself on the forums for quite some time either actually. I eventually did, but it took quite a while for me to get to that point. I felt exactly the same way back in middle school about relationships. I saw so many peoples, guys and girl's alike, getting into relationships back in middle school, and then two weeks later that person is crying by the lockers or something, having just been dumped/cheated on/whatever. Really sad. It was the same in high school, just longer than two weeks. Honestly, I've always seen myself as a lot more mature for my age than I should be. You seem to be really mature too, atec. That's not a bad thing either. It's definitely a good thing.

Yeah.  I see myself the same  way. I don't know if it's a good thing to think I am mature for my  age, but it seems like an ok mindset to have...

Yeah... that is why I have never really bothered with relationships until now.  If this doesn't work out, I am probably not trying again for a long time.  It really seems like a waste of  time  99 percent of the time.

I am starting to talk less intelligently....and christmas break is over with school tomorrow so I need to get to bed.

see you tomorrow, forum people :P

:suffer: The last time I was drunk at a bar I was hitting on one of my brother's friends, professing my love to him. ;] I was soooooo sick the next day, I haven't been drunk since (and that was about eleven months ago!)

Yeeeaaahhhhh...there is that. I don't think I'll ever be publicly intoxicated again, though.  That was too embarrassing!  One of those things that still makes me cringe when I think about it. :X

Well, I also have a genetic ticket to be an alcoholic, and I had a life-changing (and life-scarring) experience in the fourth grade. So yeah... And any amount of irish counts lol. I'm third generation irish, and about 75% irish, with 25% german on my mom's side of the family.

I'm curious, how did you find about us in particular? We've had some articles in a few German gaming magazines and some DVD covermounts of the episodes as well, so I'm mostly wondering if it was from that or something else.

welcome to the interbordz.... ;D

I strongly advise that if you enjoy the game, you play the original King's Quest series.  you can get all 7 games from gog.com for 30 bucks IIRC.  pretty good deal.
The old sierra adventures, while graphically not nearly as high tech, are lots of fun and some of my favorite video games. On the PC, I mostly play puzzle games like rhem, riven, myst, etc, but the story and... magical elements of king's quest really make me enjoy it.

If you like TSL, get King's Quest.

and stick around the forums.  it's great here.  It's where I acquired my internet skillzz

Welcome Everyone!

I'm waltzdancing, with a little 'w', but I just go by waltz here. My real name is Adrienne Elliott and I joined here two years ago and it has been a crazy train ride since! I love the forums and this is my first and only forum. I'm an Elementary Education major and after five years (really six if you read this carefully) and I will finally graduate May 2012. I plan to work at the local blind school here once I graduate and live on a huge ranch where I will raise dogs, cats, chickens and anything else I can think of. Currently I am the Production Coordinator for The Silver Lining. I never dreamed that I would ever work with computer game development but here I am and I am loving every minute of it.

I hope to be on more now that I have finally settled my life affairs and am in a groove again. It seems like a lot of people have left since I was last here, but there are also many new faces too.  :D

Wow, haven't given my little introduction. Oops! I know I've probably done this several times, but might as well do it again for those who are new.

It's amazing how much the forum has grown over the years. When I joined, I was probably one of the only people who was vocal about their Christianity. In fact, that's what brought Erik and I together in the beginning, because he was also vocal about his.

A little bit about me: I'm one of the HR/PR managers for TSL and the Number 1 poster on the forum. (Ok, kinda proud of that title!). When I joined, I was in college studying speech therapy. Graduated college AND graduate school while still hanging around here. Now I am a speech language pathologist in the schools and live outside Nashville, TN. I wasn't born in Tennessee, but have lived here most my life (since I was 3).

To go along with Haids, Enchantermon, and writerlove, I was a virgin until my wedding night. It was the most precious gift I could give my spouse. :) In fact, Erik was also my first kiss, and we held out 8 months for that! I don't drink or smoke. I've really gotten into Zumba...Erik gave me the XBox Kinect and the Zumba workout program for Christmas!

As I said, Erik and I met online here on the forum. He visited me for a day on his fall break in 2004. I went down to Florida with my daddy during spring break 2005. Then we went our own separate ways for years. Through God's grace, in 2008 we both got out of relationships (those who were part of the forum at that time know what I'm talking about), and in no time, had reconnected (we had gone 2 full years without talking with each other). We started dating in May 2008, got engaged Valentine's Day 2009, and married July 11, 2009. We  had a beautiful outdoor wedding at Erik's parents' house in Texas.

We are now the parents of two sweet cats, Imoen and Zara. Yes, we got the names from computer games: Balder's Gate and Quest for Glory :P

In my spare time, which I've had a lot of this week due to snow days, I love to read Christian historical fiction (LOVE Tracie Peterson, Tamara Alexander, Cathy Marie Hake, etc), play World of Warcraft, and do nothing! We just started a small group Bible study in our home, so that's exciting. Since I love hostessing, I'm enjoying it even more!

Now, for pics!

I just wanted to say; I've had a blast playing these games and we're only 2/5 the way through the story.  At one point in time great adventure games were being produced left and right; no one really knows when they fell off (in my opinion, they never really did, they just stopped being massed produced); but the last one I remember being truly great was probably Grim Fandango, that story still out in my mind as one of the most amazing stories to ever grace the genre.  As for king's quest? I'm a diehard VI fan; i mean really, does it get any better than that? the music, the puzzles, scenery, characters, really it was just ridiculously good.  Everything you're doing with this project puts a smile on my face, and along with telltale you've made 2010 probably the greatest year in gaming for me since I dunno 1990 (when Loom came out).  I myself strive to one day produce adventure games of 1/10th the calibur of these babies (well i strive for 10x, but hey, i'm just being realistic). So please, keep up the fantastic work; keep upping the action, puzzles, scenery, just go for the gold; even if you're not raking in the dough off this endevour, you're really raising the bar for what can be accomplished with a little perserverence and a great idea.  And ya know, I'm sure this has got to be teaching you SOMETHING about making great games.  Welp; i eagerly await the next chapter in the story, and hey would it be possible to get some nice swag going? like some chapter-specific posters I can hang up to go with my Wall of Adventure Game Greats (so far its a bunch of monkey island and sam and max stuff; plus the manuals for loom, full throttle and grim fandango stapled to some corkboard; and of course a KQ6 floppy in a ziplock bag)

Hi. I'm Josh and I'm 20 years old. I'm currently majoring in Computer Science in college. I was introduced to the King's Quest series much later than probably most of the other forum members, but I have been a fan since I was 6. I had a large interest in computers since seeing them at my mom's work, so my uncle gave us an old computer of his to play. It was an IBM PCjr and had King's Quest I and II as well as other PC games. We were hooked to it, struggling to figure out the puzzles. The only problem when playing was because of the lack of blank 5.25" floppy disks at our disposal, we couldn't save. Imagine trying to play through the entire game in one sitting without dying!

A couple of years later in 1999, my parents bought a newer computer and learned about the other games in the series. We found MoE right away and saw how different it was, but as we knew virtually nothing about III-VII we didn't know if the others were more like the first two or not. A few months later, we bought the Collection and were finally able to play the other games.

I would say the series have been very influential on my childhood and it as well as several other video games inspired me to pursue a career path in making video games as well as furthering my interest in computers.

I'm impressed with TSL so far and have been enjoying playing it. I think you guys have captured the style of the earlier games well, particularly with the puzzles.

Hi everyone!

I'm one of the lead animators here at Phoenix Online Studios! I never really introduced myself to the forums, so here I am!

I have been playing computer games for a very long time. One of the first adventure games that I played was called Telengard and I played it when it when it was first released! It's actually more of a dungeon crawler/RPG but to me, it's an adventure game!

"How long ago was that?" you ask. Well, the only platform you could play it on at the time was a Commodore 64 and that was way before programs were on discs! I had a cassette player hooked to my computer and it took a good 25 minutes to download.

If you guys are curious about an old adventure game, you can check it out at  http://www.aquest.com/telen.htm

I hope all of you enjoy Episode 3 and I know that we have something special for you all in Episodes 4 and 5!

I run a few gaming blogs and am a big fan of adventure games in general (I'm more a Lucassphile than Sierraphile I admit, but only because I'm a wimp and hate dying repeatedly in adventure games!  ::))

Try out MoE. It's not the greatest KQ game, but it's a good game in it's own right. I enjoyed it to a degree. It's available from Gog, so feel free to give it a whirl. TSL does have references to it, so you may not understand some of those if you haven't played it. That being said, it's not the be all and end all. You can get by perfectly well without having played the game.

I hate math... I'm in Math class right now (15 minute break, hence why I'm on the forums). I remember back in kindergarten all those many many years ago we celebrated 100's day. It was like a legit holiday for us. The number 100 was so mysterious when I was a kid. By that I mean it was so high. We made necklaces comprising of 100 Fruit Loops and all sorts of other things relating to the number 100. Why does no one ever celebrate that anymore?

If you were around kids every day you'd realize that it IS still celebrated! :) Our kindergarten class at work celebrates it every year, and every kid brings 100 of something to show and count in front of the class.  Then all the teachers have to come in and congratulate the kids of making it to 100 days of kindergarten--wow, you're such big kids now! :P  We had it when I was in school, too--I think I brought 100 raisins.

Well, I mean not kindergarteners. I mean big kids like me. Is Pi day supposed to be the big kid equivilant to 100's day?
I think it's your 100th day of school *ever*, so you wouldn't celebrate it more than once. I never heard of it until my wife told me about it (she's an elementary school teacher).

Anyway, pi day is so much cooler! :D
And then there are the mole days... (6/02 and 10/23) ;D

Edit: Apparently mole day (http://www.moleday.org/) is officially 10/23 from 6:02 AM to 6:02 PM.

Haids, the following is for you and I. Now, normally, I don't like Jimmy Buffet. But I'm pretty sure I can make an exception for this. Marvel in what is perhaps the greatest song of all time.

dd.  I didn't think it was possible for you to get any cooler.  But my God, that is the most brilliant song ever written!  Bravo! :bow:  (And hey, I saw the Pacific Northwest in the midst of the song! :D)

Seriously, math is going to hold me back from ever graduating college.  I've been dragging my feet with my freaking 2-year degree for five years because I CAN'T DO MATH!  Jimmy Buffet is right.  Math suks.

I thought you'd like that. My dad loves Jimmy Buffet, and I had to suffer through all of it while growing up. Every time I got in his car he had a different song from the guy. But this song, and a select few others, caught my ears. This one in particular; I've always hated math, and this pretty much sums up why. What I really want to do is play this in math class. But I know I'd get kicked out if I did.

Hi all!

I'm Olav, or Ole, as everyone typically knows me. I am 30 yrs old and live in Minneapolis, MN. I am an Advertising & Design major that is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Media Business. My hobbies include foreign music, Greek and Norse mythology, and reading.

I grew up with the King's Quest series. I really don't think I have an absolute favorite of the bunch. If I had to choose, I would probably say KQVI, because it's so epic. I've very much enjoyed the fan projects that AGDI & IA have put out. I have been following PoS' activities, but I have only just recently been able to sit down and start playing The Silver Lining. In fact, I just finished Episode II, this morning. This is simply amazing! The story, so far, is very much to the style of the original series. The music is spectacular! I'll probably work myself crazy to see if I can finish the next episode before the weekend is done!

I was heartened to see Roberta Williams' feedback on the game. Then I saw that TellTale is planning a relaunch of the series. I would say they very much to live up to, between fan loyalty and the sheer quality, dedication, and passion that have gone into this project.

alright, I'm gonna introduce myself, too.

My real name is Robin, I'm 19, I come from Switzerland ... Buddy is the name of my cat, so that's somehow the meaning of my username ... (If you meet any "Buddy-Something" in any internet forums chances are reeeally high that it's me).
Since the Swiss school system is kind of confusing I won't start to explain what kind of school I am in at the moment. However, as far as I have heard it's on the same level as your American colleges. English is by the way not my native language (as you definitely have noticed), but our school provides a bilingual school program. So more or less I have to speak English all day.
My hobbies are actually kinda depressing - I watch a lot of television and I read. I also enjoy writing, and my biggest dream - if it ever came true - is to become a scriptwriter for a TV show in America. And that's more or less everything you need to know about me.

I just wanna say that I have read through some of the comments of this topic, and I really felt at home from the very first second. Some of you love writing, too, there is a Digimon fan who created his own digimon (I also did that when I was a kid XD and Digimon was also my first anime!) and somebody wrote she was a big Disney fan (I enjoy the old stuff much more. In my opinion Disney somehow lost its magic when they started cooperating with Pixar. Their movies are rather based on slapstick humor, and the morale of the stories somehow got lost. Anyway, Finding Nemo is one of the best movies, so I am still open to the works of Pixar.)
And some of you seem to hate maths. Stupid subject. I enjoyed the silly math problems above! And I felt their anger and frustration!

You guys seem to be fun. And I am looking forward to being a part of this community. If you have any questions just ask :D Thx for "listening"/reading.

It's because I never bothered to memorise the morphology table you sent me and the dative plural can sometimes be confusing.  :-[ Also, I'm not going to make an adjective table since I can actually keep track of those, in spite of the many sub-declensions, so they have to go on there. :P And we've actually done all the forms. :P We're going to start reading Kallirhoe after the exam next week. :)

Ahhh but depending on which version(s) you read into, Sif had hair made out of real gold rewoven into her own, given my naughty Loki, in amends for chopping it off to begin with. Other versions do make it a headdress instead.  ;)

Buddy, I forgot to mention: Based on what I've seen across the internet, your english is surprisingly good. I've come across many a people who can't muster english even half-way decently; you, my good sir, are doing the language justice. For someone who's native language isn't english, you're doing a superb job. Keep it up!

As for TV shows I watch: All sors. My interests range. I've watched crime, comedy, Science-Fiction, fantasy, etc. My all-time favorite genre is Science Fiction/Fantasy though. I love me some Star Trek (I own 23 seasons of it on DVD... That should prove my obsession with it XD), Stargate, Farscape, Battlestar Galactica and more. I also (really really really) love No Ordinary Family on ABC. That show is amazing! I liked Heroes before it veered HORRIBLY off-track. It's a shame it got cancelled, but that's the TV biz for you. I also like House (though I admit to being about 2-3 seasons behind at this point in time), Scrubs (I'm in the middle of season 5 or so), Futurama, Family Guy, American Dad, Firefly, Dollhouse, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Invader Zim... The list goes on. I've got an unhealthy addiction to TV. One that should seriously get treated lol. There are also many shows I've been meaning to watch, but haven't yet had the time to start on.

I also actually love quoting a show and no one knows what I'm talking about. Allows me to flaunt my knowledge of all things TV. I admit my knowledge isn't all-knowing (far from it), and I've got many shows I must still watch, but it is still steadily expanding. Oh, and I forgot to mention that another favorite genre would be cartoons in general. I love Anime and a lot of animated shows in general. Avatar: The Last Airbender ranks among my favorites, as does Ronin Warriors. I loved toonami back in the day...

ANIME/MANGA FTW! Welcome, Kairi! Is your forum name related to Kingdom Hearts by any chance?

Spelling is bad even for native-speakers of the language. I'm surprised at how good both Buddy and your's english actually is. For those that don't natively speak it, it's pretty good!!

Did your name come from Kingdom Hearts, by chance? ;)

Yay for anime fans! :D And yes the name is from Kingdom Hearts... Again Robin introduced me to it and I fell in love with instantly. I've only played the PSP game though xD

To be honest, I actually lived in England for some time, but I have the feeling I've lost most of my vocabulary since we moved back to Switzerland. That is obvious though, since I now speak Swissgerman most of the time ^^'

Birth By Sleep (the PSP game) is indeed fantastic, but give 1 and 2 a shot as well. And Re:Coded for the DS. That game is actually pretty good.

I really want to play them, but the main problem is that I don't own my own PS2 xD I will play Re:Coded though, since I just finshed Okamiden (another great game! I already loved Okami!).

Re:coded is great. Takes a little while to get into it, perhaps, but I'd call it the best DS KH game. Granted, I don't think 358/2 days gives it much of a competition. I didn't actually play that game, but I wasn't so enthralled by the media on it. The game I really want thought is Kingdom Hearts: 3D [Dream, Drop, Distance]. That game looks pretty amazing, to say the least.

I am playing 358/2 days, and I find the story itself - as usual - very nice. However, it gets kind of boring that you "only" have to do those missions for days - and they're always the same. I really wanna play only because of the story and because I'm a fan of the series, otherwise I agree with you that it is not that a good game. You only miss the story, which is very interesting and catching as usual.
As I know lovely Kairi she will lend her PSP to me one day, so I can actually play Birth By Sleep too (I actually have her DS at the moment :D )

I watched the cut-scenes for 358/2 days, so I got all the important plot bits. Though, honestly, I find the whole game to be rather pointless. Perhaps it's just me (and perhaps I don't understand the KH over-all plot as well as I thought, which is quite possible),
but the very idea of Xion, while a cool character in her own right, is pointless. The fact that she contains part of Sora's memories, and dies by the end of the game, makes her plot line completely useless. So far as I know, there's nothing from 358/2 days that carries over to any of the other games (feel free to correct me), so why did they make it? What was the point? If Xion hadn't died, it'd be another story.

Well, if you weren't spoilered at all as I was when I started playing 358/2 the whole Xion thing was pretty interesting - how it all evolved. Also, it was just nice having Roxas back, because I honestly liked playing Roxas. I do love Sora, of course, but Roxas is somehow a little darker and more pessimist than he is, and I am more like that, too - so probably that's another reason for my why I liked playing 358/2 in the end.
I've come across many a people who can't muster english even half-way decently; you, my fair lady, are doing the language justice. Crap. I can't get people's gender right here lol. Sorry 'bout that. I'll fix it now. I hate it when I do that (it's not the first time. I've done it before.)

EDIT: Fixed. Really sorry about that. I really do hate it when that happens. It's even more awkward when I do it in real life. Sometimes to customers. It's not my fault that they have ridiculously long hair and I only glimpsed them from the side! *rambles on for hours*

One time in elementary school, despite my parents firm words against it, I wore a Superman T-shirt to school. The difference with this shirt? It actually had a red cape sewn into it. It came that way. I think it was like fourth or fifth grade. I can't really remember all that well. Suffice it to say, I got made fun of lol. I also used to have this huge obsession with camo. I don't know what it was, but everything I wore was Camo. EVERYTHING. Right down to the shoes. In 6th and 7th grade I earned the name Camo Boy. It later dawned on me that wearing all-camo gives the wrong impression on people; namely, that I wanted to join the army. Which was so not the case. If anything, I'd want to join Starfleet. In a nano-second. But not the army. I don't like fighting. In any form, really.

I have no fashion since either.  :P
Oh man, me neither.  I dress in what feels comfortable, I don't give a crap about what's in style or who wore it at what party.  It's all lost on me! :stars:

Yeah me too! I just wear anything that is confortable... plus it's not that expensive like all the "in style" stuff lol.

I like wearing cocktail dresses and other things that flounce and sparkle. :P I don't particularly care about fashion trends unless they happen to coincide with what I'd be wearing anyway (I was childishly pleased when fascinators became popular last year XD).

I'm not a style person either. I wear what I want, and if people think it's out of date, I really don't care. :P

Actually, if you go out into the rain, it's a free shower.  That's what we call CS (Computer Science) showers, since we're too busy to bathe otherwise.   ;D

Well, the only problem with that is that the water tends to be on the cold side. I prefer warm showers. That being said, next time it rains I'll get my soap and shampoo ready.

Hello all!
My name is Brandy and I have been a huge Kings Quest fan since KQ6 came out. I can't even put into words exactly how much I loved that game growing up.  Although I haven't finished reading all of the intros on here yet so far you guys seem like an amazing bunch of people :) I have frequented the boards quite often for a few years now just looking for information on The Silver Lining but just recently have started posting.  I am a gamer, especially love old school dos games ( another game I am currently playing is Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis...love it lol) but as far as newer series go, I also love the Prince of Persia games. However, my main hobby is I play the piano. We all have our creative outlets right? My dream is to one day become a full time piano teacher. I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan (have read the books several times and absolutely loved the movies) but just love reading in general...the Harry Potter series was also really good. I love fantasy books and to read anything really that is an escape from the sometimes stresses of real life. Also a huge fan of movies for that exact same reason.  Anyways...looking forward to getting to know everyone on here :)

I concur, Deloria. The fact that I even visited to begin with was amazing. Living in the U.S., I don't get to go to foreign countries often, but I've been to England twice and Paris once. The Eifel Tower is quite an amazing thing to behold,  especially in person.

Well I don't think it ever really caught on over here. I mean, I'm sure some of the more affluent community has wrought iron, as well as some older houses. But it's just not a very common thing here to my knowledge.

I am so excited for this new game. The Silver Lining is absolutely brilliant so far. I've been a KQ fan ever since I was 5, and have been obsessed with it throughout the years. The creativity put into the game and the story-lines that make it so suspenseful really pull the players into it. It makes us always want to know what happens next, and everything that happened in the past. Rock on!

I've been watching this forum for a few years, but this is my first post.
I have been following The Silver Lining on this site since about 2009, after having found this site almost by accident.  I remember when this game was first announced way back in the late 1990's, and then --- became abandonware.  When I found this site, and saw that TSL was in development, I nearly fell out of my chair.  I downloaded the demo and tried it in my (old) computer, which didn't have a video card, and all I got on the screen was like what the title indicated ("shadows") and the characters were no more than black silhouettes.
I, recently, got a new computer, and tried The Silver Lining on it, and practically jumped out of my chair, backwards.  I could hardly believe the excellent job you guys have done with this game, so far.

I did a web search for "best adventure games" that lead me to www.adventuregamers.com.  while reading/browsing their website, i noticed they had a freeware tab and clicked on it.  First thing that caught my eye was the screen shot of Rosella set in the winter background.  This was the first time I searched for free adventure game and was impressed by the quality of the graphics that reminded me of playing Syberia and The Longest Journey to name a couple.  I didn't really know what to expect from a freeware, but once I started playing, I was amazed by the quality of the voice actors, music, sound effects and the ever so entertaining dialogues and narratives.  The storyline has been captivating leaving me wanting more!

Neat! And yes, the original KQs are worth checking out, as are the other fanmade remakes of some of them by AGDI and Infamous Adventures.

Hey :D
This feels like the first day of school :P
Real name Faith, and I've played KQ 1-4, and 6 and hope to just skip to silver lining (just because I don't think I can load many more of these games onto my poor laptop :S ). My favorites 6 because it was the first one I played (at about 7 mind you) and couldn't get off the first island.  As it is, I revisited 6 a week ago and decided to start playing up from one (talk about a surprise there :D. Though, not as a big a surprise as if I started here, I think :) ). Hope to get playing soon!

I'm new to the forums, and lately I have been soaring through all my old favorite Sierra games. Stumbled here because I wanted to try out Silver Lining.

Nice to meet you all :)

H'row,

I was about 3 when we got our first computer (1989ish) and the first games we got were like the Hugo series (Hugo's House of Horror's anyone!?) and some other games like SQ, PQ and of course KQII... and GEES, how I hated them so much!!! Apparently, if you can barely read and spell even less, the games just aren't quite as fun ( I remember having fits, ha!) but alas, watching my older siblings play and learning how to spell myself, I quickly learned my love for puzzle solving. My favorite game genre has pretty much always been adventure games, especially the old KQII era, where you have to type and read everything. Played KQI-VII, never cared to play KQVIII though...

Hi!
I'm sold to Sierra On-Line from early 80s. My first game was BC quest for tire or something like that on an Apple II computer.

Since that, I try most of what they created. I do enjoy most all King Quest, Space quest and Leisure suit Larry. They were a big part of my life; I Fall in Love with Rosella and Casima, I try to be a Larry at School using Al Lowe pick up lines and I could pass an hour admiring KQ Boxes (Mosty Rosella) in my local Radio Shack.

My favorite was KQ4 for which I pass too much time reading "You can't do that now" :rofl:

Anyway, I'm Philippe, 33 year-old software designer for a Insurance company. I do enjoy evading myself in a KQx/SQx/LSLx World. I'm more than please to see a sequel for my favorite series!

Hey there!

Im Yaas, just a guy, like most of you grew up with KQ :). They were my first adventure games, so it was pretty darn hard for a boy my age to go through them! Specially if English wasn't your native language :)

So atm I'm downloading the game so thought I should poke around the forums.

I'm 28, Mexican, always been a gamer but since I work all day long I barely play anymore :(

Im a computer geek, Datacenter focused :), kinda bummed Phoenix Online is not hiring SAN / Vmware consultants.... would love to take part in a game development project :P

I'm an avid reader, movie watcher, workaholic, metal-head

I like whiskey, beer only on hot days (like today!), just bought my first new car :D yay! (had used ones before).

I like food!, every weekend I try to go to a different restaurant every time with my gf, be it a 5 star or on the street, doesn't matter :)

Anyway, gotta go buy me some beers while this download finishes......

cya!

Welcome! Which King's Quest game is your favorite?
Title: Re: Welcome Newcomers!
Post by: ladidada on April 17, 2012, 11:05:03 PM
Yay! ^_^ Welcome!

Well my favorite Kings Quest game is the one where there are like these turtles and they're all dumb and boring and slow until this one day like they fall into this pool of radioactive goo and then BAM-- they turn into these sweet bi-ped teenagers....with muscles and like there is this rat who knows karate cuz like yeah his owner is japanese or russiany or something and does karate and the rat is well read...cuz hes a rat and thats what rats like to do, read stuff and the rat names the turtles after famous Italian artist...cuz yeah .....but the turtles aren't artist, their fighters and they're awesome. And like the rat is all old and scared up cuz he got beaten up alot or no, he got stabbed trying to save his master who is dead! And like the rat is all old now but he trains the turtles how to fight bad guys like the one who killed his owner and like they're teenagers so they speak really cool and kids like slang stuff like.

Seriously, I would love to be in that studio when that guy pitched the idea behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...I mean really!?!?!?!?! Sorry....total tangent....

heh, on a more serious note,

I actually think KQIII is my favorite. I used to go around and "collect" ingredients from the game so I could make my own versions of the spell. Good times. KQV was the hardest one for me, I was stuck in that game for like 10 years....

Haha, cheating is lame :/

And yeah, for me KQ3 was the hardert, but I would say 6 is my favorite....

I LIKE King's Quest III, but it's my least favorite. It's not one of those fun, challenging games, it's just a pain. I've beaten it twice, and that has been it. It's not one that I'm like, "I'm in a Questing mood. How 'bout III?"

LOL. Well, she's Jane's stepdaughter, actually. And very clever, I see what you did there. :P

But, legitimately, we saw a demo reel of her and were sold. If she weren't perfect for the part, parentage aside, we wouldn't have gone with her. It's a happy accident of sorts that she just IS Erica.

I love our voice actors. Erica and John in particular are awesome. I'm constantly surprised at the great chemistry they seem to have despite having been recorded completely independent of each other and the actors never having met. And yet...!

The other roles are also great, don't let that leave you thinking they aren't.

I think Deloria was expecting "Voilà 4 episodes done!", ie- the presentative use at Say's link.

So, the only uses for voilà (at said link) that could conceivably come up in English are 1, 3, and 5, and 3 and 5 should be set off by commas. So, for the original in question, it's number 3, but the punctuation suggests it's number 1. :scholar: (You'll find the grammatically inclined blow gaskets around the slightest ambiguities like these.)

I myself wasn't sure what error Deloria was implying at first because I was quite comfortable interpreting it as an interject (though that's a form of grammatical laziness). :o :S :-\

~~~
Welcome to the forum, Koko200!! (You've been baptized by grammatical fire... it happens. ::))
I understand that, but the new people wouldn't necessarily understand. We don't want to scare people away. :)
I think Deloria should be our forum translator officer or something like that, just as Jafar is the one to go to when you need to find a lost post :P
Deloria and Delling could share that post. Both are eminently qualified.
I had two semesters in college so about a year, but mi espanol es pobrisimo... y tuve 2 anos en escuela secundaria... *hopes he didn't butcher that too terribly* :-\ :P (which is why I seldom use Spanish outside of "veo").
We need to call Mrs Reed to come clean up this mess :O (Kiiiiiiiiiiiiidding!! :P, it's pretty good!)
I seriously wish I had that education while growing up, when I learned what I did everything was because of my family, not because of school. I wish I was exposed to more languages while growing up :(
XD My high school Spanish classes consisted of a woman who had been a Missionary kid in Brazil told to teach us Spanish because "Portuguese is like Spanish, right?". Couple that with "...but I don't wanna learn Spanish..." (I had already decided I wanted to learn French, Latin, and Greek... like at least one... but I ended up being "thorough" :P), and I'm not overly surprised I didn't really retain it... but I often wish I were better at Spanish since it would help with job applications stateside (in theory).
Hi,
I'm Ben. I'm very active over at the Pinkerton Road forums, so I decided to join the PO forums as well. My favorite adventure game is GK2. I'm also a huge fan of Cognition, though I have yet to play the Silver Lining yet. I'm also the social media director for the upcoming Sierra Con, which I'll probably make a separate thread about. Finally, I'm a music producer/composer and if anyone else makes music I'd be interested to hear it. That is all.
Hi! I'm Andchan, 21, Brazil XD i play a lot of Dead Island on Steam, i read lots of gay comics (HUGE fan of Batwoman, Runways, Young Avengers...) and manga, i watch an abnormal amount of tv shows... i'm a ficwriter and fanartist, i love romance and stuff, and i really like the way Cognition has almost NO ROOM for romance and there is no forced fanservice, so i can put a lot f my imagination on it without interrupting people who are just trying to play the game XD (i do have in my hands a doodle of Erica and Cordelia romantically waving to each other u.u am i alone in this ship?) well, nice to meet you guys =D
ps: i hope i don't screw up a lot with my english, feel free to say if it sucks, i'll study more u_u'
Hi everyone!!!
Some of you may know me. My name is Josh, and I used to be really active on the Sierra Planet forums (which was previously the Sierra Nebula forums) way back in the late 90's/early 2000's. I was out of the Sierra community from about 2002-2009, but I've gotten involved since then, mostly through Twitter and Facebook.
I've been wanting to jump deeper into the community, and especially find more friends who love the King's Quest games, as King's Quest has always been my all-time favorite adventure game series, and most of the old guard from back when I was active in the community is not really into adventure games anymore. So, I'm going to try (key word: try) to get involved in these forums. I know several people already, so that definitely helps!
Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well, and I look forward to seeing you guys around!!!
Have a fantastic day! Talk to you later!
JDHJANUS
Josh
After a few months writing around here, I think it's the time to introduce myself.
I'm from Spain, 50 years old, my English skills are scarce, and right now I'm very hurt because of the closure of Pinkerton Road Forums and no plans for Jane Jensen's new games in the horizon.  :'(
I love GK1-2-3, the remake (20th), Gray Matter, Cognition and The Silver Lining.  :D I also like Virginia Capers, Tim Curry, Jason Victor, Amy Kurilo, Raleigh Holmes, Robert Holmes' music and their sense of humor (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2edRKeHruBI).  :rofl:
I think that Jane Jensen is a luxury that we (adventure gamers) DO-NOT-DESERVE!
Greetings for everybody from Vatican City!  :P
I found my way here from the Sierra Chest Facebook group.
It wasn't until last year that I 'discovered' Sierra and the joys of 90's adventure games in general. I joined up here because I've had a hard time finding places where people still discuss these games – so many of the old forums and websites are dead links now. Hopefully I'll have something more to contribute, eventually.
Strangely, I first encountered the King's Quest and Gabriel Knight games from hearing other people mock them ("Cedric is annoying! Cat hair mustache!", ect.) But instead of nodding along with them, I ended up becoming interested in learning more about these games and eventually came to enjoy them, including the weird quirks.
I was fortunate to grab up Moebius and Gabriel Knight 20th on GOG yesterday for $3.79 and $6.29 respectively. I haven't played the GK remake and know absolutely nothing about Moebius (except who made it :)) so I am looking forward to checking those out in the weeks and months ahead.
