Just to set the record firmly and pedantically crooked, I borrow from Wikipedia:

Id est (i.e.)
"That is (to say)", abbreviated as "i.e." - sometimes "in this case," depending on the context. When celebrating this holiday (i.e. Christmas), hang a wreath on your door. It is not equivalent to "e.g.", in any context.

Exempli gratia (e.g.)
"For the sake of example", "for example."

Far from it. Persons, names, words, you name it, I can forget it. However, to keep this post just a bit on-topc, there's some female persons on this board, who I won't forget that easily, unless I suffer extensive brain damage (and even then).

I like how a simple joke turned into an investigation of what "i.e" stands for and *truly* means.  It kept me amused for a while.
And, Say, buried somewhere around here is a thread for you to say stuff like that.  But you're not supposed to complement the guys here.
