There's a squirrel camped somewhere in our vicinity too,  it doesn't go running in front of cars though, it'd rather steal our walnuts (?sp). XB

Madness, madness I say!
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

Cat have you tried Spysweeper from Webroot?  I use it and like it.  You can try it out for free and they also have a version that is better that you have to pay for.  I have bought the program at Best Buy on sale for $19.95 for a year's subscription.  I also have Adaware, SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search and Destroy.  These three programs are free.  I have found you need a number of programs to help to stop spyware and adware.  I use FireFox to help minimize security problems and have a software and hardware firewall in my router and an antivirus program.  Finally, I keep Windows updated through Windows update.  It is crazy the amount of stuff you have to do to help try to keep your computer a little bit secure.  I hope some of these suggestions help you in making your computer more secure in the future.   ;)   :D   8)

Sorry, you are wrong, I have a special data logging unit built into my computer (so as to ensure that no breaches in the various warrant's occour).

I have Sunbelt Software's PestPatrol and Norton's Antivirus.  Then I have Norton's firewall.  And, yes, I do keep everything updated.  Something just snuck in, somehow.  Today, the computer is running fine...*crosses fingers*

Shadow, is this also a computer you use for work?  'Cause, I mean, for just a home computer that seems kinda on the uber-paranoid side. :P (Unless, of course, you're a spy. :P)

Cat you could post your problems with your computer to this thread and we could try and help you solve them -- especially if Dell has not been too helpful so far --- why not let the forum members have a shot at it -- there is plenty of computer know-how here -  ;)

Oh -- all right you may want to use some of my suggestions in your thread about how to protect your computer next time especially SpywareBlaster which is free and prevents 3199 items from even reaching your computer  How's that for some protection

Well, for when you get everything sorted Koko, I'd venture that 90% of your problem was using Internet Explorer... if you're not careful to set your security settings properly in IE, then spyware tends to pile up like fungus. Much easier to just use Firefox or Opera.

So, if you ditch IE, virus scan every file you download before you open it (mostly ZIP and EXE, though), and do some research before installing a freeware program to make sure it doesn't contain spyware, you should be all set. :)

Personally, all I have on the security front is Opera, an anti-virus scanner, and a firewall, and I haven't run into any problems.

Peace & Luv, Liz
