Quote from: Louisiana Night on October 22, 2004, 02:28:23 PMI somehow doubt Cat's willing to TRY Linux, much less use it has her main OS. :-\
Nevertheless, I don't see much difference, I can surf, I can mail, and I can chat. I can watch presentations, I can type letters and I can do maths. The only drawback I see is gaming, which is why I don't recommend it as your only OS..
PS: OS=Operating System (Window$ XP, (Apple's)OS X, Linux...) 8)

In between Windows and Linux!!?? :o ???

QuoteI don't recommend it as your only OS..

That's my opinion about Windows(I understand someone using Linux as their sole OS). If there's any data/information I want to be somewhat safe, I NEVER put it on a FAT32/NTFS(Windows) partition(especially FAT32). That's since I used ME. *shudders* :P

Either, or neither. XD

Once it's properly setup (which mine, obviosuly, isn't (yet)). I don't see any problems in operating the Linux counterparts of the applications I mentioned.

Isn't the safest method of storing information on a (compact) disc?

Without an X-Windows manager, it's rather hard to compare Windows and Linux. 8)

I thought you meant you couldn't tell a difference in between the two OSs(I was wondering what about the OSs you were talking about). ;P

I think Windows is SLIGHTLY easier, if you're unaccustomed to it(IMO). If companies gave it more support, I think that would change(first time installing Nvidia drivers is tedious by comparison to Windows, before they made the installer).

That's where the "somewhat" comes in. :P

Is the main drawback of Linux is that is its not able to run Windows programs --- yes or no -- or is there some other major drawback?   ???

Well, I have witnessed some of my specialist Computer associates make Windows programs operate on Linux, don't know whether it is hard or not but I have seen them do it.

A great deal of Windows programs, work easily in Linux. Install WINE, associate it with the EXE filetype, and then all you have to do is click on the icon. 8)

Note: That's for the most compatible software. All programs are not that easy to run. :-\

So... do they have the squirrel Geico commercial in the UK? :P

Shadowfax

Can't say I have seen any commercial of that sort!

Hilarious commercial, though, isn't it? :P

Thanks but I have never seen it on U.K TV!

Glad you liked it.  Yes, I, too have seen funnier.  I think one reason I like it so much is b/c it's cute. :P

Well well well, looks like the all powerful, all knowing copycat finally has met his match with Ol' Shadow and his ancient colloquialisms!  ;)

Seriously though, Gordon Bennet isn't a person, it is another English slang word (from London) which stands for Blimey! or Bloomin' hell!  :)

Ok...I'm changing the topic, just because I want to tell ya'll about the last couple of days...Friend's Day! :D

One of my professors does an Annual Friend's Day where we draw names and give out presents and have a party!  Since several of us have him for two classes (four days a week), we got two Friend's Days, back-to-back.  So yesterday, we had a breakfast party and exchanged gifts (for those who want to know, I got a pedicure set :P).  Today we had a pizza/sugar high party!  My friend gave me $5 (the most we were allowed to spend)...which is perfect, as I've spent too much the last couple of days, so now I have money for lunch tomorrow!

Anyway, since today is Friend's Day, I just want to say

I LOVE YOU ALL!
