Nice, this 'Friend's day'. BTW, I always have trouble picking gifts for someone (else). :-\

Quote from: Shadowfax on October 28, 2004, 09:38:53 AMWell well well, looks like the all powerful, all knowing copycat finally has met his match with Ol' Shadow and his ancient colloquialisms!  ;)

Seriously though, Gordon Bennet isn't a person, it is another English slang word (from London) which stands for Blimey! or Bloomin' hell!  :)
I never proclamed myself to be all-knowing. And all-powerful would not be me either, that would be Ms Say.

Have you looked at my location yet? If you did, you'd know I'm not living in London, or anywhere in England for that matter. English is not my mother tongue either, and I don't think ancient colloquialisms (that's a word I'd rather not type everyday) part of my curriculum in school, nor have I ever heard it being used on the BBC (which is where I got most of my English from).
And BTW, just as I don't understandf those things, you won't understand some of my Flemish. Try loooking for a pompsteen. 8)

That's really sweet! geez, I need to come back to the forum I'm missing tons of stuff around here :)

happy (belated) friend's day everyone!

OH yeah, well about shadow's post was kind of funny, I do believe as well that Bob is quite intelligent, sometimes a bit of a smartpants ;P though, but oh well, I guess it all comes together :D <3

me powerful?, I would go for powepuff instead since it sounds silly and it suits me better, lol, but that would appear as if in a big fan of the powerpuff girls which I sort of am but not really, but still somehow true cuz I am not only director of department but as well project coordinator, which means that's could explain why neil and I are so gone and lacking of any kind of sign of social life, but hey it's cool, we got a fancy title for being cesar's little monkeys now lol... ok and now I stop ranting :p, so yeah, thanks I guess?

I R POWERPUFFZ, RAWR!... :)

Hey, chill! I was only being sarky that's all (no nastiness meant). I am well aware that few people understand my dodgy language at the best of times! I am also aware of where you live so I didn't expect you to know anyway. You can find it on the BBC (if you watch "Only fools and horses," that is!) but you won't find it anywhere other than London as it isn't "Standard English."

As for "pompsteen," well I will have to ask one of my multi-lingual associates. They do most of my translation duties!

So once again, no nastiness meant (I have a rather "sharp" tongue by nature!)
When cities burn and armies turn,
and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly
and fight another day.
But warriors know it in their marrow when they die and fall,
It is better to have fought and lost than not have fought at all.

I never watched "Fools and Horses", and even so, if I heard it being used, would I've known what it meant?

Any multilingual English/Flemish person amongst those associates? 8)

None taken, and don't be alarmed if some of my replies are a bit "sharp" as well, it's a constant battle for me too trying to "blunt" my tongue. :sweating:

Questing Character

Shadowfax has multilingual associates...but, wait, Shadow, you only speak one language?!
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: SHADOWFAX CAN NO LONGER BE A SPY!! (Spies *always* speak like 40 different languages :P)

So, that must mean that....he makes the gadgets that the spies work with on their missions!! :o :P

Shadowfax

Well, I can speak a good amount of basic French and have good knowledge of German within the context of the Luftwaffe technical departments, circa 1930-1945.

As for gadgets, well I don't make a lot of stuff; I do create parts for my 250 SuperKart, I do computer programming, I do write novels/songs, I do artistic sketches but thats about it.

However, I do design machines as well, and these are very serious technical undertakings (some of which I intend to build actual prototypes in the future.) These range from IDS/OFA tactical fighter aircraft, manned-unmanned space vehicles, specialist unlimited technology racing cars and robots. R & D is my main hobby!

Besides QC, spies do not necessarily need to speak multiple langauges to operate y'know (and no I am not implying I am a spy, I'll just get others to do it for me!)

BTW CC, you would understand "Gordon Bennet" in "Only Fools and Horses" if you saw the context it was being used in!

and flee in disarray,
Cowards will cry 'tis best to fly

I have no idea if it's really a squirrel. It looks more like a chinchilla to me. :-\

All I know, is I've heard them called flying squirrels(maybe it's the same naming problem, as a koala bear?).

i hav heard of flying sqirrels and i hav seen them on tv, but i didnt think they looked like that lol...maybe its just a stupid name that sum1 gave it

I thought everyone knew it could fly(well, glide anyways). :P

I thought the question was, if it was a real squirrel, or just had the name(well, at least I've heard people call it that). ;P

koko_99_2001

All I know about it is that Jason said the Suger Glider is not called a flying squirrel...but who knows...

People that have them where they live, might not call them that. Maybe it's just people that see them for the first time, and their first thought is "A FLYING SQUIRREL! :o " . ;P

If you Google for "flying squirrel" you'd probably find many references to it that way. :P

EDIT: It looks like we DO have some in the US(Somewhere in the Southern states). :-\
