I'm generally bad at cooking. If it involves nothing more than sticking ingredients in a bowl, mixing them together, and then cooking them in a dish for a specific amount of time, I can do that. Anything else, I'm terrible.

I still remember the time my best friend and I tried to make fudge. Now she is a very good cook, yet even with her working with me, we still ended up with chocolate crumbs. She was like, "I've done that recipe dozens of times and it's always turned out all right. Liz, you're jinxed!"

I can't sew either, although I can crochet. Harrison can sew decently, however.

I don't get how people can be bad at cooking.  ???  I can understand if you're trying to make something from scratch, but if you're following a receipe, then as long as you use the correct ingredients (or correct substitutes) and correct quantities, everything should be fine.  :P

If you are constantly burning stuff you bake, it's the oven's fault for overheating.  All you have to remember is to keep food in there for 2 or 3 minutes less than last time.

I know I baked my first cake from scratch last summer.  It was SO good.  Before then, Betty Crocker was my best friend!  Now, from scratch I make them!

And about sewing.  Mom and I bought a few patterns today from Wally World.  They're all specified as easy, so hopefully all we need to do is get material and thread and I hope to have a few new outfits.  Now to find the time to actually sew!

Don't ask me how I manage, I just do. :P I followed that fudge recipe to the letter, for instance, and it still turned out like crap.

Maybe it's because I can't help but consider cooking as a means to an end, rather than an end in and of itself. Cooking well does require time and patience I usually don't have. :P

i do most things from scratch and most of the recipes i do have are from previous experiences or passed down through the family :D

See, that's my problem, nobody is telling me such a thing! :-\

That's because you don't have a girlfriend who's fastidious about personal hygiene. You should rectify that problem! ;)

Yeah, he should.  I think it's Cat's moral duty to fix that problem!

Questing Character

Why, of course it's your moral duty.  Because I said so and I'm your catnip provider.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Q...but I've been weaning myself off the catnip.  You've noticed I haven't bought as much lately :P

Rob, who cares if it's not a fancy meal...if you still cook (in the states, a home-cooked meal consists of meat, veggies, and bread) than it counts as you practicing your cooking skills!

I scare people when I cook, assuming I'm not using a recipe. Anyone ever tried deep-fried summer sausage?

koko_99_2001

No, I haven't.  And I don't cook w/o a recipe unless it's a dessert I've made so many times I know the recipe by heart.  I don't take risks with my cooking.  However, I still can't seem to make the yeast for rolls to rise accordingly...

LOL!  I'm not a chef, I'm just good at following a receipe.  XD

If you follow a recipe, then you cook.  And if you cook, that makes you a chef...at least in my book! :P
