Looks like we have Paul Hamm and Brett McClure competing in the Men's All-Around finals. ;D

Oh, and there's Even More Swimming, of course. ;)

Even Japan has gone ahead of the Aussies now.  ???

Well, atleast Australia is still ranked 2nd on the 'Medals per Population rankings'.   XD

I think UAE is first.

Congrats Netherlands!  I'd congratulate the States for their medals...but wait, Jeysie's watching right now and I don't want to spoil it for her!  (This is what happens when our homepage is a Foxnews!--I find out what happens mid-day instead of having to stay up and watch!)  BTW, Jeysie, don't miss a second of the men's gymnastics!

Blerg, it's OK... I went to see earlier today on NBC's site who was competing for us, and the stupid gits has posted the results already. Waaaah! :P Oh, well, it's still interesting so far!

Edit: Wow, *that* was totally crazy. Paul got really lucky... it's like everyone else caught Bobble Fever too. :P Still, if you're gonna bounce back, those were two awesome routines to do it with. I think Brett, on the other hand, got way gipped on rings!

And I hate to sound shallow, but... it's like, Paul's got this really nice face, kind of aristocratic-looking, even, and then he opens his mouth and Mickey Mouse comes out. Oh, well, it's a typical gymnast problem. :)

And we snagged a gold and bronze in cycling... and the gold medalist is a Massachusite! Yaaaay!

Last night was awesome!  We stayed up just to watch it (even though I was taping it :P).  Mom was the only one who didn't know what was going to happen, and my sister comes in and says "has he fallen yet?"  Mom almost cried once she found out that Christine was talking about Paul!  Brett did get gyped...and one of the guys who ended up with a 9.6+ score--it was too high!  Anyway, Paul won, so that's ok now!  The look on his face was priceless when his coach said "Olympic Champion!"

Ok, am I the only one who felt like they stretched it out to the last minute?  I mean, who cares about swimming (ok...I did), but all I wanted to see was how Paul did!

EDIT: Watching Regis and Kelly...Kelly just said "Wouldn't it be funny if it was the twin taking his brother's place??" :P

Heh. Well, as I said, the networks know that Gymnastics is a big draw in the US, so they're going to bait you to watch the whole coverage and get their ad money's worth. :P I'd expect more of the same tonight with the ladies.

But, oh yeah, you could see him shaking his head and everything like, "No. No, I didn't. I did?!" And he was almost in tears during the medal ceremony. Priceless. Harrison commented that he looks pretty good wearing the laurels, and I agree!  :flirt:

I hope things go a little less dramatically during the event finals! (I wonder who's qualified for what.)

Some other random thoughts:

Just to show how pedantically dweeby Harrison and I are... we've been noticing that during the Gold Medal ceremonies for USers, some of them have been taking off the laurels during the anthem and holding them over their left shoulders much the way you would a hat in that situation, and then re-donning the laurels afterwards. What Harrison and I can't quite decide is if the laurels count as "hats" that need to be taken off and set on the shoulder or not. (Yes, I know, we need lives!)

Peace & Luv, Liz

I've noticed the same thing with the laurels.  I know there's not set rule about them.  I'm thinking it's respectful to take them off and put it over the heart, but since it's not officially a hat, it's not disrespectful NOT to take it off.

We've been invited to a dinner with our next door neighbor, and she just got back from a month long trip, so we're probably going to be over there most of the evening.  However, if they stretch it out like they did the guys, we'll get back in time to watch the end :P

Hee! The local paper printed a picture of Paul Hamm right after his gold, with a big smile and his arm pumped out, and my co-worker (who's like, in her early fifties, mind you) goes, "Doesn't he look all handsome, with his arm out like that and everything?" and gives the picture a showy smooch. XD XD Not that I blame her!

If I'm reading the qualifier results right, I think he's going to be in the finals for Pommel Horse (with those flares, I should think so!), Floor, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar. While Morgan is up for Floor and Horizontal Bar. Whee!

Carly Patterson and Courtney Kupets are up for the ladies all-around tonight. Can't wait!

Looks like Canada and Australia have men and women up for gymnastics finals, too. ;D

Peace & Luv, Liz

Right now I'm watching Canada vs. Australia Women's Softball. XD

From what I heard on the news, Morgan and Paul have said that their dream is that they'd tie for gold on the floor.  Now THAT would be awesome!

And if we're talking softball, my sister just told me that America's team has not had a single score on them.  Wow!  I knew they were good, but I didn't know they were that good.

I agree, that would definitely be one heck of a moment to send off to the history books.

Although I think it more realistic that they both may end up medalling in a same event... which would still be good for "warm fuzzies".

Indeed! I guess they've invoked the "mercy rule" in the USers favor 4 times just because they've been so far ahead. XD I love how the ladies are kicking butt and taking names, and the men didn't even qualify to compete in baseball. :P

Yeah, I'm not sure they'll both do gold...but both medaling would be awesome!  Is that tonight?  Either way, I'm going to have to make sure and tape it! (like I'm ever going to have the time to watch :()

Nah, just the ladies tonight. The event finals for both the men and women are on the 22nd and 23rd.

Well, don't feel bad, then... I didn't know until I started keeping up with the games this time around, either. ;] I guess if a team has enough runs at a certain point in the game, and the opposing team has none, they just call the game right then in the winning team's favor.

Thanks, Jeysie!  Still taping it though (that is, if I like the results that I'm probably going to see on our homepage :P)

Ahhh...thanks again.  After I got to thinking about it, I kinda figured it out.  But it's nice to have it clarified! :P
