I always liked Adrian for a boy, and Aurora or Krista Marie for a girl.

(I also think that Gwydion would be a very cool name for a boy, which is part of why it's a good thing I don't want to have kids. XD )

Hmmm.... trying to come up with baby names. Aren't we getting a little ahead of ourself here Say? ;)

I'm just kidding. Some girls already know what they're going to name their first child (one picked for male, another for female) before they've even begun dating or anything. Weirdos. :P

Anyway, I can't think of 3 each or even 3 all together, but I have a couple misguided suggestions....

Going on euphony alone, I always thought Attila sounded like a cool name for a boy. Unfortunately, it's not very practical since he's likely to be called "the Hun" for the rest of his life. :-\

I don't really have any good suggestions for male names, but I agree with Cat that Christopher is a very good name. I've always liked it for some reason, and I don't really know anyone named Christopher either. And then of course you could always go with Michael Jr., that would be cute. Or you could use my namesake..... not that I particularly like my name, I just need the ego boost! ::)

For female names, hrrm... I dunno, I can't really choose any in particular. I kinda like Elizabeth, or the more Latinized form Isabella. Noelle sounds cute too. For an original name (at least I've never seen it used), I always thought Laeena could be a cool name. It means 'Lioness' in Greek and Latin, so it would be the feminine equivalent of the male name Leo or Leon. Unfortunately it looks kinda weird with the a-e-e combination of vowels, but the first 'e' is actually part of the diphthong 'ae', so you could write it with the old-fashioned character 'æ', like Læena. Most people probably think that looks even weirder, but it looks more orthographically appealing to me. And the way it would be pronounced in English sounds pretty to me also: lay-EEH-nuh (accent on the middle syllable).

And that's pretty much all I can think of.....

Well, there is no harm in thinking about it is it? and FYI Mr :P it was Michael's question, I'm just trying to gather up some ideas, I sincerely don't know myself yet, it's harder than what I thought to be honest, I can't even come up with one but "Michael" lol, I'm biased I know, but I do think in boy names I'd choose from the few ones I've heard here Michael of course, Christopher and/or Kevin why not? it's a cute name! About the female names, I believe it's even harder but I'd say that Kimmie's choices were nice, Mia and Aisha, although they sound like a hip-hop artist lol ;P they're kinda cute.

Although, honestly, I would try to think hard enough to come up with an original name, just like my mom though of my name "Saydmell" which has a very personal meaning.

I never thought of this in my entire life, me thinking baby names? lol that's Michael's doing :P I never even thought about ever considering getting married, and yet again it's Michael's fault! :)

(thinks) I forget, Say, did you say that your mom made your name by combining two names? That's how my mom got her name... her aunt was Ida Belle, so she became Idabelle. That's always an interesting way to make names.

I forgot to say I also like Juliana, though that's not really an original name...

You could try naming your kids after things like constellations, they usually have neat names...

Peace & Luv, Liz

Say

Yeah, my name is a merge of a name and a word actually, I don't think "Miel" is actually a name (honey in english) but Sayd is a name alright

Anyhow, I think I've got some time to come up with either a combination or original stuff ;)

This post explains it in detail. I thought it would be fitting to link here since this is Say's thread. ;)

Well, Juliana is a name as old as Julius Caesar himself, so it's a bit of an understatement to say that it's not really an original name. ::)

Yes, they do! Some good ones are Boötes (a herdsman), Coma Berenices (Berenice's Hair), Corvus (a crow), Crater (a bowl), Crux (cross), Draco (a dragon/serpent), Equuleus (a foal), Fornax (a furnace), Grus (a crane), Horologium (a clock), Lacerta (a lizard), Musca (a fly), Puppis (a ship), Triangulum (a triangle), Scutum (a shield), and Vulpecula (a little fox). :P

As you can see, most of them either sound really weird or have an indecorous meaning (or both). However, it's always good to consider these facts before you doom your child to getting beat up every recess because he has a name like Puppis.....

Yes, Juliana totally isn't an original name... I was being understating on purpose. (Sigh, I need more sleep, can't even parse things right anymore.)

(snip constellations)

And I thought I was good at being a smart-ass. ;) I meant constellations more like Cassiopeia, Orion, and Andromeda... although admittedly that's more Greek mythology than strictly astronomy. Usually it's the cooler Greek myth names that got used for astronomical bodies, however...

And some would argue that Draco isn't such a bad name... the character in question, on the other hand...

Anyway, I was only half-serious about that idea. I think it would be cool, but I doubt anyone (including Say) would agree with me.

Some *cough-cough* might argue that, but I think what's-her-face (the author of the Harry Potter series) chose Draco as that particular character's name for a reason. Not to mention his last name is Malfoy, which in Norman French (from which most names of old English nobility were derived) would have meant "ill faith", i.e. "unfaithful". So there! :P ::)

I could give you a run for your money, if I had been getting more sleep lately. :P (I generally manage to cross everything up to begin with, but lack of sleep makes things a ton worse.)

But I generally confine my smart-assedness to pointing out unintentional double entendres, with occasional forays into potential unintended meaning caused by accidental incorrect choice of word.

QuoteSome might argue that, but I think what's-her-face (the author of the Harry Potter series) chose Draco as that particular character's name for a reason.

Well, the historical figure of Draco doesn't have a good rep, but there's nothing inherently wrong with dragons. It all depends on what mythology you look at. ;P

Besides, I figured that Say would stay away from the, er, weirder constellations. (There's a Star Trek novel that has a nice little passage musing over the fact that once astronomers ran out of mythical figures to name stuff after they started getting kind of weird. Musca, in particular, was mentioned.)

And outside of fiction, the meanings of names are neat but don't mean much. Heck, my first name means "Dedicated to God" or "God is my(her) oath" and my middle name means "youthful". Both decidedly a mismatch... ;)

I give up, however. If I cover every angle, I get griped at for talking too much. If I try to be succinct, I get smart-alecks. ;P Not only that, but this is getting way off-base.

Peace & Luv, Liz
