I'm sure I'd be secretly envying grundy's new monitor too, if I knew enough about computers to know what he was talking about and to know that I needed to envy it! :P

You could rock our worlds when it came to speech therapy.  :D

Ignorance isn't a problem, per se.  It's having a closed mind, poor attitude, and an unwilliness to learn.  You don't have those nasty traits, Cat.  So don't sweat it. :D

I knew that CRT refresh rates were in Hz... I just didn't remember if LCDs were the same. And yeah, 60 Hz is pretty icky... unfortunately that's what I'm stuck with at work. The reason I upgraded my home monitor was because eventually my eyes just couldn't hack the 65 Hz rate of my old monitor anymore... now I have one at home with 85 Hz... yay!

The 16ms responce time has to do with the speed that the individual pixels open, close and twist to let more or less light go through.
The actual refresh rate is about 70Hz, but since LCD's don't have any flickering, even 60Hz is great on an LCD.

My other 2 LCD's which are 25ms produce some 'ghosting' when there is fast moving objects on screen, say, with a video game or DVD playing.

But the 16ms responce time eliminates this problem, in turn, getting rid of the ONLY thing with LCD's that CRT's could do better.

So, R.I.P. CRT's!  :suffer:

Just checked, my 25ms LCD is at a refresh rate of 75Hz.
( They are unrealated yonkey, so 16ms doesn't = 63Hz. ;) )
If you understand LCD technology and how each physical pixel works, then you can understand why responce time is so important.

Well, you should all be green with envy by now!  ;D

CRTs aren't going to go bye-bye until LCDs drop a couple hundred in price. I dunno what they cost in Australia, but here in the US, good LCDs are still in the $500+ USD range. (You can get a cheap LCD for around $400, but... well... it'll be a cheap LCD.) Whereas a good CRT is around $300.
