[NON-ISSUE]Any hope for getting through this game with a slow computer? (Category: Misc)

I'm about to give up. I've gotten to dream land and things go so fast that my computer can't keep up. It takes so long to load after each time that I "die" that it's no longer fun. I've gotten the horse to get me to the carriage, but the graphics are way off. (Ex. Graham is in mid air in riding position and horse is gone.) Perhaps someone can tell me what I'm supposed to do at the carriage to see if I can make it any further; I've found one thing in the carriage and die after clicking on it. Can't seem to do anything else or get out of carriage without dying. I have my computer running the program at a custom level with all the extras turned off (like shadows and rain effects). Any point in going further or will I be frustrated till the end? Thanks.

Hi Bonnie, I'm sorry you're having trouble with the game running. I'm going to move this to Tech Support so Weldon will see it and maybe he can help you out.

What exactly are the specs on your computer?  Like how much RAM and how much dedicated video memory do you have?  If you're not sure on those, run a program called DXDIAG on your computer and it'll give you those pieces of information.

1014 MB RAM
Sorry, I don't see anything that actually says video memory. I see "approx total memory 128.0 MB." Intel Atom CPU N270 @ 1.60 GHz (2 CPU's). Direct X 9.0. Current Display Mode 1280 x 1024 32 bit 60 Hz. Windows XP Home Edition 5.1, build 2600. Page file 731 MB used, 1711 MB available.

Thanks, Bonnie

Yeah that 128 MB is the total video memory for the system - that's half what the game needs to run properly so to get through the more graphically demanding sections you'll want to go into the game's graphics options, uncheck the box for running the game in fullscreen, set the detail level to low, and uncheck all the boxes for extra things like reflections and shadows.

Unfortunately, I already did all of that. I guess that's my answer. Thanks for trying to help. Maybe someday I'll get a faster computer. Bonnie

I also had some problems because of my slow computer, but was able to finish the game. However, no matter how low I turned the settings, I could never hear what Shamir had to say about Alexander and the Ranger without it freezing. I had the same problem in Episode 2, but that was fixed by using a faster computer. However, I don't have that option this time. So, can someone tell me what he says about those two subjects?

I made it outside of the castle in the first episode, and it crashed when I tried to interact with the guard.  I have about 96 MB, so I guess I'll just give up now... I can't wait until we have quantum computers.  From what I've seen so far, though, I must say--outstanding!!  Thank you for making it feel so much like the classic Sierra adventures!

There are some 'Lets Play's on Youtube if you want to indirectly see what happens. It's an alternative to not being able to play it at all :(

upgrading your graphics card is an option.

I have a cheap pci nvidia fx 5200 with 256 mb and the game works fine.  it's a little meh on some of the cutscenes but it works and the rest of the game is great.  this is, of course, on linux though.

Maybe... My desktop has onboard graphics and only has PCI (NOT PCI ExpresS) slots. I don't know if there are any PCI video cards that are good enough... ???

Right... I should read more carefully. ;] Actually, the last time I played TSL on my desktop, it worked fine. It's been a while, though - maybe since before Ep2. I mostly use my laptop these days.
