Episode 3 downloading at 19 Kb/s
« on: March 14, 2011, 05:05:24 PM »
I got about 170 MB into the download for episode 3 (3+ hours) when it must have aborted because I ended up with a corrupt executable.  I am re-trying and I am still only getting like a 19Kb/s download speed.  I'm sure it's not my connection because I downloaded a 100MB mixtape today in about 2 minutes.

Is there another mirror to download the episode at?  The one I'm getting is: http://redhammer.org/tsl/TSL-EP3Patch.exe

That mirror may just be overloaded a bit, there are several so keep trying or wait a bit and try it again.  You may also want to get a download manager like the one that's built in to Firefox or GetRight or something like that if needed.

Ugh. I had that issue too. My connection speed is very variable - sometimes it's 20k/s, sometimes it's 650k/s.

My internet connection is non-existent more often than not when in my dorm. I've been trying to get it fixed, but no one's done anything about it yet.

I hear you. Our broad band is dial up speed in some areas of NZ. It's really upsetting when people in other countries complain that they can't instant download MP3s or what ever on their mega fast internet plans. We don't have competition here (much) for internet, so our connections are SLOW and EXPENSIVE. Apparently they're getting Broadband 2 in some areas of Auckland though. Maybe I'll get lucky and get internets that aren't slow >.>

I'm surprised that New Zealand is only on dial-up. I always thought that improvements to internet speed were more global. I guess I'm wrong. Verizon (a cellphone carrier in the U.S.) just launced LTE, which is an amazingly fast cellular network. You can download things in six seconds flat. I haven't had a chance to experience it yet myself (they've only launched it in like 38 territories nation-wide so far), but it seems pretty fast. I hope New Zealand can catch up soon. Of course, no rush. You guys did just go through a pretty traumatic event, and healing your country comes first over faster download speeds. It's still pretty amazing that we live in an era where almost the entire planet can communicate with each other in seconds. I mean, I'm communicating with you, Arkillian, and you're somewhere over a couple thousand miles away from me, if not more.

Oh no- don't get me wrong. We have broad band. It's NOTHING to the speed of America, Japan and all the more developed countries. We get alot of technology first cause we're big enough to count, but small enough not to care about, but anything like internet or DS games or anything cool that puts availability over performance, you guys get it first. We get stuff that has to be tested on the market first. Like, we had telephones on our motorways for 5 years before America did. We had pin numbers on our eftpos a good 5 years before Australia (I know it's ATLEAST that cause I've never used signature in NZ the whole time I've had VISA, yet Austalia had only recently- last 3 years? adopted pin numbers. It's like O.o ). We had the Lincoln V145 for 4 years before Australia saw it. We ironed out ALL the issues with it. NZ lost confidence in the machine in the mean time, and Australia is getting it all shinny and polished :/ I'm not sure what's up with it, but we've had WPA  the whole time we've had broad band, and I had to downgrade the security of our internet to use my DS on the internet, so I can only assume that American hasn't had password protected internet for that long and has been running WEP till the last... 5 years? I donno. That's a guess. I can't tell where we're ahead of you cause it's everyday life to me.

I'm not sure why we are advanced to you in some ways, and behind on others. I suspect Telecom didn't want to upgrade all our telephones. We're getting an upgrade in the higher developed areas, but West harbour people don't use broad band cause it's dial up speed. Kumeu isn't too bad. I'm just happy I can talk to people overseas at all. Before internet ( O.o OLD ) I use to just draw in my free time. Now I have access to SO many things! I think any speed is great :)
