Yay!  I've never played a Lovecraftian game because I never could get into Lovecraft's writing itself, so I always assumed that the games would not be my cup of tea ... but perhaps I should give Lovecraft another chance.

Okay, here's another game:
1. The main character returns to her hometown after being away for a long time
2. The player can switch between the present reality and the past as the character remembers it whenever the player wants
3. Pirate club

Enjoy!

DD, you are just too young. These are the games I grew up with. I played them through my childhood and teen years.

That's true; I'm only 19, so I've got many years left to play these games and others that will be coming out down the line, from us especially!

Once more, I have been stumped. I suck at this game XD

I'm a little older than you, but I think we're in the same boat.  Aside from Conquests of Camelot and a couple other games I played as a kid, I didn't get seriously into adventure gaming until 2007.  I actually made Conquests of Camelot the first game in this challenge because it was inspired by somebody trying to identify a childhood game.

Anyway, since we have a similar background, I think you might have an easier time figuring this one out over old-time veterans, so don't give up DD

Well, I still don't know it XD I'm behind on a lot of adventure games anyway... Considering I just finished GK2 last week or so, I'd say I'm several years behind.

And I haven't played GK2 (yet), so you're ahead of me on that one.

And one of the reasons I picked that game is because I was wondering if even you, Rado, would be stumped ... but given that

Spoiler (mouse over to reveal):

... I didn't think it was too cruel.

And yes, you're right, so you set out the next game.

Okay, so this is a game I really like and feel is underappreciated by the adventure game community.

1) In the course of his investigation, the divorced main character teams up with a female police detective. The nature of their relationship varies slightly depending on choices made by the player - it may be purely professional, somewhat romantic or a little hostile. This subtly influences the ending.

2) As general principle, the player can shoot or arrest any character he encounters, although such action ends the game in most cases.

3) At one point in the game, the main character faces two men identifying themselves as NSA agents. He can either engage in a firefight with them or escape into the woods.

Ooh...good one.  I'm stumped.

We're talking pure adventure games, right?

I think I know what this game is, even though I haven't played it (yet) - I don't want to say it because I want to give others a chance, but I think it is set in the city where I grew up (which is one reason I plan to play this series eventually).  There's also a Sierra game I want to play eventually simply because it is set in this city as well.

Yes, although the puzzles are more like those in Police Quest than other adventures - there's a little "Use orange on tree" but a lot of evidence collecting and analysis. I though that references to shooting may be misleading, but the pistol and handcuffs are basically just inventory items.

It's not really a series. There is another game set in the same universe but it's more of an action adventure, similar to early Resident Evil titles.

Okay, maybe I have the wrong game after all, since I thought there were five games ... so I'm going to finally put my guess out there ... and if this is wrong, I am just as clueless as everyone else:

Tex Murphy, the Pandora Directive

Tex Murphy, the Pandora Directive

You're kind of close, although not really ;) The game I'm referring to has elements of the paranormal as well, but it is not futuristic. In fact, to keep the thread going, I'll also say that it's FMV, like Pandora Directive, although with actual sets instead of computer generated backgrounds.

Another FMV featuring a divorced main character running into pairs of NSA agents, eh?

(performs some Google-fu)

Could it possibly be Casebook?

I was just watching the trailer to Casebook. I haven't played the game.

I was actually looking for an old pair of FMV games I never got the chance to play. Tender Loving Care and Point of View.

Of course, there's also Black Dalia, but I didn't play that either.

I'd like to call googling cheating, but then again, how would we know when one's been using google, unless they announce it? Either way, I'm still stumped lol.
