It hasn't been 16 hours, but I might not be available then, and it seems I underestimated my capacity to stump y'all

So, a recap of all of the previous hints

Quote1. There is a character who attended a university in Tennessee
2. Another character misses his mother
3. Yet another character breaks a light

Quote1. The first character also lost a mother
2. We find out how the second character feels about his mother when he talks to her (being dead, she doesn't talk back)
3. The third character breaks a light in the cemetery where the mothers of both the first and second characters were laid to rest.

Quote1. Depending on the player's choices, the first and second characters (the ones whose mothers are dead) will try to save each other's lives...
2. ... or try to get each other slaughtered (and succeed).
3. The third character (the one who breaks the light in the cemetery) kills another character, though NOT the first or the second character.

And the new hints:

1. The first character owns copies of the works of Homer and Virgil.
2. The second and third character have been friends for a long time.
3. Dark Daventry has played this game, so he should try harder (this is as hint and a nudge)

Probably by the time I get back someone will have figured it out.

Have I now? And you know this how, exactly? I'm still as clueless as ever. Based on the clues, I'm almost certain I *haven't* played this game; none of the clues ring any bells for me. But as I've stated previously, I suck at guessing games.

Alright, maybe these hints will jog your memory, Dark Daventry

1) the first character is sometimes possessed by the spirit of an enslaved African
2) the second character has the same nightmare over and over again
3) the third character works for the New Orleans police department

Hope these hints aren't too subtle...

Nope. Nothing comes to mind. The only thing I could possibly think of would be Gabriel Knight 1, but only because of the New Orleans thing. But you only play as one character, and none of the other criteria fits all that much. I'm almost certain I've never played whatever game this is.

I never said that all three of these characters are player characters... in fact I never said whether or not any of them are player characters or non-player characters...

Regardless, you still haven't confirmed whether it's GK1 or not. I'm getting the feeling it isn't. That's my only guess. If it's not that, I wouldn't know, and likely haven't played it.

Well, now that you have outright guessed (I wasn't sure from your previous post if you putting forth an official guess)...

WE HAVE A WINNER!

Dark Daventry, you put forth the next challenge,

By the way, some of you might find this Let's Play of GK1 interesting -

Wait, so it *was* GK1? ok then. I'm a little surprised. Honestly though, I wouldn't be able to come up with a game to stump all of you with lol.

If DD is leaving it open, I will give it a shot.  ;)

1) This game has no inventory, yet is surprisingly interactive.

2) The game's music is almost entirely unoriginal.

3) Nearly everyone who comes into contact with the player character dies.

kindofdoon

Haven't played it, but Colonel's Bequest?

My guess is Loom.

Enchantermon

It's not Colonel's Bequest, that has an inventory.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

Since this thread has been inactive for a few days, I'll get things rolling again.

1. There are no gorillas in South America
2. I have THE BIG STICK
3. I'm not joking, I am [name of main character]

Here's a bit of trivia: The guy who did the art for that game, Steven Stamatiadis, also worked as an assistant to Eddie Campbell when making From Hell.

1. Autoerotic asphyxia
2. "Why did you have to die?" / "I'm not even a ghost..." / "You've been with me for so long."
3. I wept at the ending and never wanted to play again, because it felt perfect for me. I had to check another ending on Youtube for this and I started to cry. F'kin tears are messing with my work.
