1) Your character has no parents.
2) The game is only
i]somewhat[/i] faithful to the original source material, but that's not really the fault of the designers.
3) Many walkthroughs, including the official as I recall, advise you to find a hidden area in the game by a method that does not work*. There is another method that does work, however.

*To be fair, I've never tried it on someone else's copy of the game or asked around about people's success with it. But I tried it MANY times and it NEVER worked even once. So I'm convinced it doesn't work at all.

Any guesses? Should I give another clue?

I would want to answe Companions of Xanth, but I'm sure it's the wrong answer.

So, enlighten us.

KatieHal

Wow, that was a botched quoting job! Let's try that again.

Heh, and no, not Companions of Xanth. :)

Hmm...

You can win the game about 2/3 of the way through, but you won't get full points or complete the story since you'll be dead.

KatieHal

Even less of a chance I'd know it. We only got the  really popular games in New Zealand. We didn't get the middle stream ones like we do now finally

Cez has it!

The game was based on the Disney movie version, which itself was a terrible hacking of various elements of the original book series--hence, only somewhat faithful, but that wasn't Sierra's fault. Your main character Taran has no idea who his parents were. And the hidden home of the Fair Folk can supposedly be reached by saying "the magic word" next to the waterfall (which works), and also by jumping to the largest rock in the middle of the lake. Though I have that second method many times, it NEVER worked for me!

Being in production for over 12 years has that effect.

KatieHal

The movie was, really? I did not know that.

And DNF is about to find out how much that applies to games...

That's a far cry from "Your character has no parents." which implies that his parents do not exist, not that he simply doesn't know who they are.

That second method worked for me. Odd that it didn't for you.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

KatieHal

My knowledge of the books may have influenced me there--in the books, it's very clear Taran's parents are dead and gone, whoever they were. He's raised by Dallben, which is also the case in the game/movie, but it's clear Dallben is not his actual father.

The gamingworld already had Prey.

No, I mean Prey. It took about 11 years (1995-2006) and four new lead designers to make. Daikatana took only three years (1997-2000).

Cez

w00t!

1) The game has a combination of 2D cell shaded characters, 3D characters and not exactly full motion video, but it's at least the picture of a person that has some lipsync.
2) You navigate the world in 3D and 2D screen by screen.
3) There's a dog named Rex.

I wanna play this game again... I could never beat it back in the day.
