Banshee problem

Long time fan, first time poster 

I think I am missing something. I have read the other posts regarding the banshee, but I'm still having problems.
[spoiler]I have the nightshade in the shell combo, but when I use it on her, I get a generic "You can't do that here" message via narrator. I have clicked it in the air, on her, and on Graham, but still die.[/spoiler]

What am I missing?

In case there is a "bug" I don't know about, I downloaded the full game on March 1, so it should be "bug free". I used my saved games, but uninstalled and reinstalled with the full 123 version. I elected to "continue from episode 2", when asked.

Is the flower the only way to solve the banshee prolem? is there another way to get past her the first time?
