Super Nachos!

This was the go-to pig out for me and my buddies in college.  That and buffalo wings.

Someone woke up with a craving :)

I LOVE nachos. So delicious. I will often end up making them for dinner :)

For discussion's sake, what IS it that make nachos SUPER nachos?

That looks like nachos with melted cheese, jalapeno and smoked or roasted meat? Sourcream and something that combines spice and ketchup.

Personal opinion: Yech.

California is the best for stuff like this.  When I experienced el pollo loco, I was changed.

I wish that my ridiculously sensitive tummy could digest all that!  I miss grease.  Soooooo much.

I may have a weird taste in food, but those nachos look so good.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Oh, I know how you feel.  I'm on kidney dialysis, and it messes with your tastes, and your stomach.  I can't eat this stuff any more... but man, my mind still remembers the carefree days!!!

And, yeah, I totally woke up with a craving, haha!

The super in super nachos comes from the abundance of toppings on them.  The ORIGINAL nacho snack was merely a tortilla, cut into four wedges, deep fried into chips - and then a slice of cheese and a slice of jalapeno was melted over the top.  Super Nachos often have cheese, cheese sauce, jalapenos, seasoned beef, olives, sour cream and Salsa.  (Or, hahah, Ketchup with Spice.... now that's funny.)

It's a shame if you don't like nachos!

There's a grocery store near me that makes really incredible hot wings.  Every time I go by there I stop to see how fresh they are and if they look fairly recently cooked I usually just buy all they have.  I love them and my kids even like eating them even though they've got a solid kick to them.

And yeah nachos are awesome - there's a restaurant here that makes super nachos using a sweet bbq pork that is absolutely incredible (it's won several awards in fact).  Oh man I love a good snack.

It's just culinary habbits, I quess. For example I never understood the idea of combining macaroni with cheese or meat with chocolate.

KatieHal

BUt...it's mac and cheese! Pasta and cheese! It's delicious! you should try it. :) (but not boxed stuff...no, no. Real stuff from a good restaurant.)

Seriously!  Macaroni = good.  Cheese = Excellent.  Macaroni + Cheese = WIN!!!

Meat and chocolate, though...... yep.  Agree with you there.  Whoever does that is a barbarian!

I don't know - some mole sauces contain chocolate and are used with meat.

Actually, I've had chocolate covered bacon.  It's amazing!

There's a New England chain restaurant called the 99 that has this appetizer called Irish Nachos.  Basically, instead of tortilla chips, you get big thick ridged potato chips covered in cheese, bacon, salsa, sour cream and chives.  Sounds weird but they taste very good.  :)

On a wine & food tour of La Jolla, CA I went on when on vacation recently, we had these amazing 'classy' potato skins at one place. They were thick flat discs for the potato part, then covered in crumbled chorizo, feta cheese, blanca fresca cheese, and field greens. They were SO GOOD. I should really try to master replicating them at home sometime.

I was really sad when Applebees discontinued their potato skins. :(

Mac&Cheese.. Pah! Like I said, it's just culinary habbits. I have my own food that I love and you guys have your own.

KatieHal

Hm. I'd give that dish a try at least. :)

I love lingonberries! I'm not so sure about the blood, though. :-\

Well, I was shopping for weekend and found something that would be perfect for this thread.

But first, a little proloque:

Here we use ruis (rye) alot. It is mostly used to make bread or mämmi. Usually if there is a food that can be turned into rye something, it is done. The local McDonalds used to sell a McRuis (McRye), but now they just offer to change the burger buns into rye bread.

So, may I present:
[spoiler]

Ryechips! The grilled flavor kind.

The chips are dome-shaped pieces, that resemble more hapanleipä (extremely hard, you wouldn't want to eat them with a toothache) than ruislimppu (hard on the surface, but softer inside) which is a bit dissapointing. For some strange reason they taste almost like fish, which is a huge turn off for me.
