May 21st has come and gone without so much as a burp...

I'm a little disappointed, I was hoping to take out a few zombies rising from the dead, while I waited for the planet to burst into a ball of fire in October. But hey we can't have everything can we?!

Oh well there is always December 21st, 2012! Go Mayans!

Yes, there was that volcano, and apparently a 3.6 EQ in San Francisco, another 6.1 EQ off the coast of NZ.. And a Tornado killed 1 person, and damaged over a dozen houses in Kansas. Kinda anti-climactic without flesh eating zombies, and mass death.

He was raptured, along with his millions! :p

Actually those billboard claimed May 21st was both the rapture and the start of the apocalypse. Apparently his apocalypse ends in October 21st, 2011. So we have a few months until the world bursts into flames! Lol.

Then we can worry about December 21st 2012!

Of course the global warming/climate change people are sure the end of the world will be between 20-50 years from now (possibly irreversible at this point). In 2006 Al Gore predicted the end of the world, or at least a scorched earth, would be in ten years (2016).

So there is still a chance I'll get to shoot me some zombies!

oh, right, we were supposed to die. I was just too busy with cleaning my bedroom... ^^

I am kinda looking forward to December 21st ... It's the birthday of my mom ... Her birthday party is so freakin' doomed, I just love the idea of an actual apocalypse during her party... xD

So apparently his latest 'prediction' is that his previous October 21st prediction is still coming! Just now all the rapture and disasters will occur at the same time.   :suffer:

I wonder if Camping takes bets?

I just saw this:

This bit intrigued me:

QuoteHis independent ministry, Family Radio International, spent millions - some of it from donations made by followers - on more than 5,000 billboards and 20 vehicles plastered with the Judgment Day message.

I feel kind of sorry for him now. He went to so much effort and it's all been for nothing. :-\

Plus, he could have given those million dollars to charity. Surely that would have been the more sensible thing to do? ???

Oh man, I feel no ounce of sympathy for him whatsoever.  He got (some ::)) people all fired up and terrified and he's scamming the naive for their money.  The psychotic old coot needs to get a different hobby than false prophecies.

I feel bad for the people who quit their jobs and sold everything because they were naïve enough to believe him. >:(

Harold Camping needs to read his Bible more carefully:
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

Indeed Snabbot, and there are a couple more verses with that same sentiment!

Funny thing is, his organization's literature admits to those verses, and then proceeds to completely ignore them by saying that God made new revelation available to people who are "true believers." I read one of the tracts on Family Radio's website to see how exactly he came to this conclusion. It's really an odd mess of taking verses out of context and twisting them to make them mean something they don't. If you're curious, I uploaded it here; I assume it's been eradicated from Family Radio's website by now.
So what if I am, huh? Anyways, I work better when I'm drunk. It makes me fearless! If I see a bad guy, I'll just point my sword at him and saaaaaaaaaay, "Hey! Bad guy! You're not s'posed to be here! Go home or I'll stick you with my sword 'til you go, 'Ouch! I'm dead!' Ah-ha-ha!" Ha-ha. *hic* See? Ain't no one gonna be messin' wit' ol', Benny!

I personally never put trust into groups that claim "new revelations"... I know Snake Oil when I hears it!

I think this happens in any context in which one accepts some sort of "holy scripture". :-\

Also, also...

All thieves in the night totes operate with some crackpot mountebank standing on the street corner going: "He's over there! An' 'e's comin' back at 6pm on May 21st!" 'cause that's how that happens. ;P ::)

Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean, Delling.  Scripture was written by man who is "translating" God's word, so to speak, and has been interpreted by man, so there are many, many ways to accept or disbelieve them.  It's a personal choice, but the general idea is there.  I don't think that every Scripture is "twisted to mean something it doesn't," some are very easy to understand.  "Thou shalt not kill," for example, and "Then I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll" speak for themsevles. :P

Thall shalt not kill, technically more accurately translated as thall shalt not murder in the original Hebrew.

Thus the Hebrew could get away with self-defense/war (killing for survival), divinely mandated killing sacrifice/war (clear out those Canaanites, it your promised land).

But killing for greed/jealousy/lust/etc was far out! A complete ban on killing means 'victims' wouldn't be able to defend themselves, or they would have break God's other commands to wipe out cultures!

Believe me. I could quote off almost exactly the same beliefs regarding the Bible or Scripture as I went from kindergarten through twelfth grade in private Christian schools at my mother's insistence.

Capitalization is important in this case as is punctuation: I said

Quote"holy scripture"

not Holy Scripture, which given an Anglo-European background would almost certainly be taken to mean The Bible. But, by "holy scripture", I meant ANY text accepted religiously as real world fact potentially with predictive capability and historical accuracy. Taking statements from such a text out of context and distorting them to mean what one wants them to mean will then happen because people have surrendered their intellectual responsibility not just to the text but also to the interpreter (in fact, we have made a practice out of this: don't believe me? Shop around. You can find churches which are pro-gay, militantly anti-gay, pro-life, pro-choice, etc., and a great many of them will have a basis for their beliefs from the Bible, a basis founded in many cases in the sermons of their ministers).
