hot and humid...Southern Summers...gotta tolerate them!  And I don't know about the other Southern states, but Tennessee, my goodness, you can't live in Tennessee and not have allergies (well, I don't have allergies, but most the people I know do!)

I don't know if allergies are common in Western MA, but this is definitely a bad place to have them. The abundant scenery is easy on the eyes, but hard on the histamine production induction.

Summers up here are hot and humid as well... and seem to be on their way very soon, unfortunately. The weather hasn't gotten full hot yet, but it's well on its way to humid.

It is hot down here in Southern Arizona as well.  I visited New Zealand with some friends last summer and it was awesome.  I loved visiting the Kapati Coast and Paraparaumu, New Zealand.  Man, this place seemed like a whole other world -- have to revisit sometime and oh! yeah!  I want to see Australia and definately Ireland with green rolling hills, ahhh
BTW, local honey is a great natural way to combat allergies.  It has worked for me down here in Arizona and for some friends as well.  You need to make sure it is local honey and consume it for a while to notice a difference.  If you stop eating the honey the allegies will return within a month.  The honey can be added to cereal, toast, tea or whatever else suits your palate.  :> LOL

The good thing is, I don't have allergies!  So I haven't had to try it for them...but I know at least one person here at the B that has allergies and says he takes one tablespoon of honey a week to conquer his allergies.

I'm not so sure... I used to eat honey toast and honey with chicken nuggets and stuff a lot as a kid, and my allergies still drove me nuts. Is there something about certain types of honey that's supposed to inhibit histamine production?

Mostly I just suffer through and take Triaminic whenever it gets too unbearable. (I'd take Triaminic all the time, but I hate taking medicine.)

You've got to make sure it's local honey.  That's what does the trick.  If that doesn't work, well, I sympathize for you...

Fair skin in American English means having pale/light-colored skin.

I already gathered that from the original post. I was merely commenting on the fact my 1958 dictionary doesn't mention people can also have fair skin besides fair hair.

Sure there's sun in winter, just not as much as in the summer.

Nah, I just use it occasionally. I knew what fair meant but I wanted to see whether or not the term 'fair skin' was included or not. Nowadays, if I have to look up a translation, I do it online. Never need to look up translations when I'm offline.

omg i have been slipping with posts. I blame exams, but only just over a week, and i will be done...FOR FOUR MONTHS...OH YES!  

strangely i hav just been given pre release material about spelling (boring) and its goin on about how the english language is so hard and i agree. something like italian only has 400 common words that dont follow spelling patterns whereas english has 3500 and thats why english kids find it so difficult to grasp the language.its really the fault of a guy called Samuel Johnson who had this english spelling dictionary in 1755 and chose the spelling he preferred

It makes sense that english would be confusing, it's had enough languages mixed in with it.

I agree that Old English is a lot prettier and more elegant, but I'm not sure I'd want to speak that way all the time. And it may lighten the mood, but some people are going to have bad attitudes no matter what language we/they speak.

The problem is in the people, not in the language, technology, etc. Until people universally learn inherently how to treat each other with respect, tolerance, and decency, any external attempts are just going to be a patch at best.

And there's a difference between learning from history and trying to go back to history or live in it.

Nevertheless, the English is really easy when it comes to the gender of nouns, it's always 'the', where's in German you have 'der', 'die', und 'das', and in French 'le' et 'la' and even in Dutch we have 'de' en 'het'. I sometimes have trouble enough guessing the right gender in Dutch, so how do you expect me to do it in another language? And also, who says the Italian spelling patterns are easy?
BTW, how many words does the Dutch language have that don't follow spelling patterns?
