DmC - Devil May Cry

I have been scrounging the internet for news on upcoming games, and day after day I keep reading news on the new DmC title from Ninja Theory. When it came to the Devil May Cry series, I was with the majority. I liked the first and third title, and I pretended like the second and fourth never existed. However, there seems to be a lot of overzealous hate for this new Devil May Cry. Despite the title being dubbed as a reboot or reimagining of the series, there are a lot of fans that are now trying to raise a boycott movement over the title. Is this not a step closer towards a manic onslaught towards developers and the industry as a whole? I was always content with the concept of, "If you don't want it, don't buy it." But trying to prevent other people from buying the game? That's insane.

I can understand why fans might consider this title a complete failure. It's not being done by the original developers and it's trying to reinvent a series that they felt was perfect. Regardless of their feelings, I rarely see people get up-in-arms over reboots. The new Tomb Raider reboot looks horrendous in my honest opinion because it is majorly comprised of quick time events and barely contains any action. Yet, I haven't seen Tomb Raider fans from the game's heyday coming out of the woodwork to try and prevent the game from being done by a new team. Then again, the Tomb Raider series has been rebooted a few times. Lest I bring up The Angel of Darkness for proof.  :P

I think the DMC series was becoming stagnant, because DMC4 brought nothing new to the table and was close to writing Dante's character into a corner. I think a reboot is necessary. This is strictly my opinion, and I'm looking forward to the new title. A friend of mine had actually worked on the motion capture for DmC and he has told me that the new story will more than make up for whatever disappointment may come for the fans. His word is good enough for me.

What does everybody think of this new DmC title, and what are your feelings towards reboots? Also, while negative feedback is to be expected, does the community go overboard with their reactions at times? Also, if anyone wants to discuss anything DMC-related, I feel like it would be pertinent to the topic at hand.

I've only played the demo of 4, and I liked what I played. As for the reboot, I'm actually interested in it. And yes, I do think that boycotting a game like this is going a bit overboard. Fans have a right to complain, but I don't think they should be boycotting games outright. like you said, if you don't want it, don't buy it. the sales will speak for themselves.

Here's an interview covering everything that is known so far. Since my friend worked on the game, he's spoiled some information for me. What are friends for?  :P

I'll be sure to keep the discussion spoiler-free to the best of my ability.

Don't you just love having friends in high places? (even if said high place is really just a low position in a video game company...)

Yeah, it's pretty cool. He actually works with the team that the developer in the interview references. The studio that worked on Avatar. Apparently, his group is working on more and more video games lately. DmC was his first experience working on a game, and now he has moved on towards the new Halo 4 and the Fable Kinect game that are being made. I'm a tad jealous though, to be honest, even though I personally think the Fable Kinect game will suck. :P

Ah, Fable: The Journey. I got a nice little preview at E3, plus a T-Shirt. I'm not entirely sold on the game, but I'll look into it at least. I think I need to become chummy with this friend of yours, and then hit him up for exclusives... If he declines, I'll just my patented black mail technique of threatening your groceries; his eggs may have an "accident" on the way to his car. And yes, I have friends in various grocery stores across the country. Basically, it only takes a couple of phone calls for me to put my plan into action. And yes, I have used this technique on my math teacher once or twice.
