Quotebut extracting the unused WAVs and/or MIDIs from the game files would be more trouble than it's worth.
I do it with every Sierra game, and love KQ7's music (and am recording the soundtrack), so it's extremely worthwhile, and hardly any trouble. Extracting the MIDI's took a minute.

We still may hear some of the best themes from past KQs. I know I've said we decided againts Cassima's theme, but it finally all depends to whoever does the music for this game.

One thing I'm sure of is that, contrary to past KQs, the music for this game is going to work more like the swiping score of a great film rather than just random collected music.

I'm not a big fan of the KQ epics either, and they definetely don't work too well with this game. But one thing do keep in mind, I won't be happy until the score produced moves to the last fiber of my soul, and I'll expect it to move yours as well.

You've obviously never played King's Quest VI, then, or listened to its' music.

Hee, I smell a debate coming on. ;) Spikey's definitely a Sierra music nut!

Coming from my admittedly non-savvy ears, I'd say that KQ6's "main theme" is Cassima's theme, at least in the sense that it's "motif" shows up in the most tunes in the game.

The only music that sticks in my head from KQ 6 was the cheesy ballad that played at the end. Reminded me of dirty dancing rather than kings quest tbh  XD

Still I think the odd "old" motif here and there to rouse memory cells is never a bad thing, especially if its a perticularly nostalgic moment.

KQ6, Dirty Dancing style... hmm...

... ... I like that mental image. :D

Personally, Sierra soundtracks have always been just about the only game soundtracks I found memorable. There's only three non-Sierra adventure soundtracks that made an impression on me (Star Control 2, Planescape:Torment & The 7th Guest) but every Sierra game I've played with a soundtrack has had at least a good one, if not a great one. (GK2 might be the only exception.)

I think that KQ9 should use whatever style of music seems appropriate, but yeah, saying that Sierra's music wasn't up to par seems a bit odd to me as well.

QuoteOh, how I hope the average adventure game faithful doesn't think like this.

Spikey, I'm not much of an adventure game fan, so don't worry about that.

I think Sonic Adventure had good music. Despite the fact that I couldn't play the game, I downloaded the music as soon as it came out(in the US). That's probably because they had someone singing in it, the same reason I like Eyes on Me(if that's the correct name).

P.S. Before somone comments on that adventure fan statement. I like adventure games, but I also play action/RTS/FPS/RTSS/etc. I was just saying, that I'm not the "average" adventure game fan.

Anyone that has FF8 PC version, you can play disc 3(I think) like a music CD(Eyes on Me). Most of the people that own it probably know that though.

P.S. Only that one song will play, the others are in another format.

B'rrr

actually i didn't knew that, so i might try it out!! thnx ; )

That's the song that plays in the space station right? I can't remember if I liked that one or not, I have a thing against vocal pieces coming out of nowhere in games...

Keep in mind I didn't say I disliked FF's music, folks. :)
Anyone who actually owns a Roland MT-32 or Sound Canvas (like myself) will appreciate the scores much more than say, you guys who play with SB sound cards.
Besides, I have such a high opinion of Braymen as a composer. Uematsu is *amazing*, however his scores to me lack that game sentiment inherent in Chris Braymen's (and Rob Atesalp/Ken Allen/Aubrey Hodges/et al.) composings.

Still haven't played the game, but I absolutely love the music. Some awesome tracks! Apart from Sierra, Sonic would be my second favourite game music. Some great stuff, there.

And I still feel that King's Quest (6 at least) feels like an interactive movie, and the musical score really makes you feel like you're part of said movie. Which was the intention of Ken Williams from the start.. KQ7 had another excellent 'movie-esque' style score.

Right.

QuoteI think the KQ music was good for what it was made for. It was game music, it just needed to add to the mood. Scary scene in game, scary music.

I think Ceaser agrees with me, except for maybe the "good" part.

Deus Ex is the only game soundtrack that I have. I can't think of many more games, that have good soundtracks.

Louisiana Night

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that ;P
