Big time. It's the system I grew up with, next to the PC. It preceded the PC actually. We had a Sega Genesis as early as 1994 or even earlier, but we didn't get a computer until 1995. So, Sega and it's games were my first experiences with gaming. And I still love all of those classic Sega games even now; they've ever gotten old for me.

We got the Sega sometime around '93 or '94, the PC in 1995, and the SNES in '96 or '97. Got the PS1 for Christmas '98.

Just out of curiosity:

Is it possible to declare a game as the best without referring to nostalgia?

LadyTerra

I'd say so.  All but one of the games I like best were games I played in the last five years.

The problem with declaring the best game is the lack of consistency among gamers.
I have my cake and eat it too, until it's gone.  Then I can't do either.

Aww!  You have the Sword of Hugging +3!  All of your attacks deal affectionate damage!

The bigger question here is is this a poll for a subjective opinion on what the best game ever is? Or an objective opinion? If it's the former then there's going to be nostalgia involved in everyone's choices. If it's the latter it's most likely going to be a list of games most of us hate.

I forgot about Sonic 3/Knuckles.

Good points. Some people have favorite games for different reasons. There is no right or wrong answer, though I would say that although nostalgia plays a role, to be objective about what is really a complete game, a game that has it all.

In style, I loved adventures of Willy Beamish. It is probably my favorite game. However, when talking about best game, everything has to be taken into account.  The original Metroid had cool story, atmosphere, exploration, repeat playability, and a real sense of accomplishment when you beat it.  And like Mario and Zelda, it is still around today.  Though not technologically advanced, it combined all aspects perfectly.

Obviously, we have our nostalgic games.  With me, Commodore 64 had many for me, as did nintendo.
Everything has it's charm.  But what I meant by this post was a complete game in all aspects, I guess more of a technical best mixed with charm.

Heh. That reminds me. I love how people are saying now that Zelda Twilight Princess is basically a rip-off of Ocarina of Time. Yet, I remember when everyone was saying that Ocarina of Time was a rip-off of Link To The Past. I feel old.

Quest For Glory Fan

I nominate Portal. I wouldn't say it's my absolute favorite game but it is one that I can see absolutely nothing wrong with. Everything is designed so perfectly.
