Your right about conventions in Texas, but I was speaking of the Renaissance Festival it's a yearly festival that is suposed to give people an Idea what life was like back in the Renaissance times. It's held in many states around the country. There's probably one near you, but they only hold it near the years end so you might still be able to go. What state do you live in?

Ah, Renfest = Renaissance Festival. I've been to one before, possibly the same on you speak of. I used to live in Texas not too far from Houston, but moved from there eight years ago.

Now I live in Utah. I haven't heard anything about a Renaissance Festival around here though.

The Renaissance was a fascinating era, I just odn't see why they have festivals in the states, seeing as how America was discovered in 1492 and the middle ages were over by then.

Because they're so much fun! The Blur, myself, and another friend went to a Renaissance festival last May...and I'm making sure to take the time to go again this year!

Well seeing how most americans are descended from Europeans it makes since that they want to go back to thier roots. Also like Koko said it's very fun. It more of a fun place to go then real representation of the times. True it has a lot of good examples of the Renaissance, but It also has just as many fun fantasy aspects.
For example you can buy fairie wings at one of the shops to wear, and many people wear era costumes. It's interesting because lots of people from whatever state your in will run the stands so you'll get a different experience everytime you go. There are actauly a lot of americans that love history. We even have a history channel on our cable network here. I think it's just a european stereotype that americans don't care about the old world. I personally find history facinating. I especially love to read books about the Dark ages. Knights and Medieval culture facinate me. It also facinated the people in the Renaissance era thus it is a fun event for me.

P.S. Right now we are living in a Renaissance era. Have you noticed how all the things from the past century are coming back into style.
This same thing happens at the begining of every century.
