The new Cognition screenshots look great.

Can you elaborate on the narration and interface?

Thank you for you support!

Descriptions in the game will be provided by Erica herself. The interface will be different to the classic 5 icons sierra interface, but will maintain the same idea. It's something we tried with Jane on something we were working together and it works greatly.

I don't want to sound like I'm starting something "anti-Phoenix", because I do admire your guys' determination and eccentric demeanor. But the tagline "You can't hide your past from her" and the fact that it's a game about murder investigations, it kind of reminds me of that show Unforgettable. If there's anything similar in terms of story or gameplay, that'd be a reason to be excited for Cognition.

I also think the 5 icon interface is a bit overrated. Now would be the time to try and invest in a new, more innovative interface. If adventure games are making a comeback, the first thing to do is not make it like the games of the past. That's just my opinion, of course.

We had come up with our story before any of us had heard of Unforgettable--also that leading lady's talent is her super-memory while Erica's is the supernatural ability of post-cognition, so it's a little different there, too :) But if that is indeed a good show, glad for the comparison! :)

Yeah, we're still refining our ideas of the interface but it won't straight up be the 5-icon one. I think it'll be a little more complex than just a one-icon thing, as well, though.

Ah, I knew what cognition was, but I had to look up post-cognition (or rather retrocognition). That's some heavy stuff. It's like reading the future, but for your past. And it's normally wrapped around things that couldn't be determined anymore, like the Black Dahlia murder. Interesting.  :)

Erica's is the supernatural ability of post-cognition

Näh, she's just faking it. In real life she's a klepto-homicidal maniac who likes to frame innocent people for crimes she committed. That's how she knows. Or than she could just be suffering from a bad case of good-evil split personality with the evil one (carrying a psychocomatic vandyke on her chin, of course) does the crime and all Erica has to do is remember what she forgot when she turned back to good.

There's also going to be the "Cognition" interface as well, which will add some more complexity as there are multiple ways to use Erica's Power.

It will be simpler than the old-style rotating through five icons and trying them all everywhere to see what happens, but not as simple as the "click to interact or right-click to look" setup that some games have.  We think that setup is a bit too simple and takes some of the immersion out of the game experience.

We do have a very cool interaction system that we've already set up for a different demo we put together to show it off and we're confident folks will like it.
