anyone here a nutritionist or diet specialist  as their day job so what has happened is My better half and i have worked things out but shes recently taken a teaching exchange over in Thailand she is so busy and still adjusting and she has gone form 105.6 lbs to 96.8 her doctor has told her countless times she is extremely lacking in vitamins and anemic  i was making sure she ate when she was home and she toke supplements every day since this trip and the stress she is neglecting her body she promised me if it makes me this upset shell eat better but what i need is a basic you know balanced meal plan for her Fyi her doctor said a person if her age and should have a ideal weight of 143 lbs

Your girlfriend is really tall (I considered the "ideal" to be a BMI of 20). I remember being in Thailand and losing lots of weight, simply because I wasn't used to the diet. She'll probably adjust on her own soon, or find foods she can tolerate more easily.

Looks good to me Hero, but what is she exactly lacking in her diet? Or better yet, when she does eat, what is it that she normally eats in her meal?

It's a difficult thing to regulate one's weight solely on a diet alone. But if she needs to gain weight, it's even more difficult, cause the body's metabolism may work against itself.

It's also very difficult to plan a diet for someone based on a few facts over the internet.  You also need information on her height and activity level.

If she's been anemic, she needs more iron in her diet, and red meat is a good supplier of that.  She should also consider a multi-vitamin that contains iron.

This may sound stereotypical given  that shes chinese but its not her diet is basically  rice bread sometimes milk

Dark green vegetables (Spinach, broccoli, etc.) are also a good source of iron.

Did your doctor tell you this based off blood tests? IF not, do blood tests. My doctor though my diet made me anemic, so I got tested and my levels were more than healthy despite not eating red meat. My anemia symptoms were coming from Crohns  disease. She may have other underlining health issues.

So you're saying that she gets her protein from "sometimes" milk?

If you want to give her some advice, have her go to a dietician. She needs some real protein. If she is a vegetarian, there are other sources of non-meat protein, like the combination of beans and rice, tofu, etc. She should have some mixed greens, fruit, and she should try to avoid starch unless she is trying to gain fat.

Also, like Blackthorne and snabbott suggested, make sure she gets some iron in her system.

Is it that hard to know what to eat?

There's a fine line between "knowing" what to eat, and what people actually eat. Fat America 101, knowing how to distinguish the two.

I get that but if something's wrong with someone's diet it's usually not a big investigation that requires a think tank.

Fierce Deity

Agreed, but it still goes back to whether someone wants to change their diet our not. They could very well be in denial. The majority of people I know are stubborn, and could be on the verge of a heart attack and still go for a bacon cheeseburger before eating a salad. And because of people like this, the world of nutrition becomes overcomplicated. For instance, there's a reason why people who go on the Atkin's diet get high cholesterol, yet when they suffer from heart problems, they are confused because they thought they were eating healthy. Nutrition is only as easy as you want to make it. If there was some diet out there that said you could eat sugary cereals for the rest of your life and lose weight doing it, rest assured, there will be a long line of people that would feed into that desire. It's stupid, but it's true.

You would have to elaborate. Even in the vaguest of sayings, I can't surmount this predicament. If you're looking for help for your girlfriend, you're going to have to give us something to work with.

HOW does she not take good care of herself?

HOW might be too hard a question, what specifically is wrong with her and we can work backwards.

Considering all of the topics we've covered so far, we're going nowhere fast. I'm just curious, why are we talking in circles? We discuss some aspect of nutrition, and then he says that she doesn't take good care of herself. This could mean a multitude of different things. That's why I ask. We've been trying to find out what's "specifically" wrong, and are only getting a change in topic for every other post. I'd like to help Hero out, but I don't know if he truly knows what is wrong. That's probably why he's asking for help. I can only suggest taking her to a doctor. That's it.

Blackthorne

Yeah, we can't help.

Dude, take her to a doctor or do nothing.  That's pretty much your options.
