What Do You Want to Know About Kickstarter?
« on: January 05, 2012, 08:56:13 AM »
I'm working on a proposal for a panel at PAX East about Kickstarter. So tell me folks--what do YOU want to know about Kickstarter? What kind of details and topics would be helpful, or interesting? What kind of questions do you have about it?

Also, what appeals to you more--a panel with one group focusing on their experience (in this case, Phoenix Online), or getting people from a few different projects and therefore some variety of experiences? Both scenarios involve Q&A, of course, but with fewer (or just one) group talking, there is the risk of not being able to get as many details due to time constraints.

Your feedback is appreciated! If this happens, I want to make sure it's a good panel. :)

-definitely should involve multiple groups whenever possible  ...say, maybe... 3 or so?

I'd like some idea of how user-friendly it is:
-can you change your goal?
-how easily can you set up the award structure?
-etc. things like that

The first question is actually answered in Kickstarter's FAQ :) Your goal amount and end-date cannot change once you've gone live.

I have a kind of cynical question. I trust Phoenix Online not to do this, but...

Once a project has been funded, is there anything keeping those funded from taking the money and disappearing with it? Is there any sort of accountability built in?

Legally, the onus of suing a project creator who doesn't follow through on their rewards is in the hands of the backer(s), not Kickstarter itself. But it's obviously an option that is highly looked down on and will ruin one's credibility.

And no, no one has to fear we won't fulfill ours! It'll all happen. Even the cookies! :)

Katie answered it better then I, but I assumed there's contracts and laws involved. Like a Terms of Service Agreement as you post your projects.

Yeah, there are some of those--I can't recall off the top of my head what they said, but I can imagine there's something in there about that as well.

Actually, I wasn't just being cynical there. I would think if there were some sort of "enforcement," some people would be more comfortable making donations.

Of Cognition?  We're just starting to make that game, it's going to be later this year.
