Hmm.

Aliens: I think these exist, as well. I find it kind of hard to believe that we're the *only* "fully intelligent" life forms in the entire universe!

But as for the "visitations" aspect and all that... jury's still out on whether I believe aliens have ever come to our planet and stuff. If there are aliens out there, I think it's sadly possible we may never meet them, due to various limitations.

Ghosts: I'm not certain I believe in the actual spirit idea of ghosts. If there is an afterlife, I don't really believe it's the Christian concept of afterlife, where you go with an intact soul with your personality and everything, I feel it's likely something less... I dunno, less structured, solid? I think it's more of a "spectral energy" sort of thing... like just your pure essence continues to exist, it just doesn't necessarily have any real "form".

I think that if "ghosts" as traditionally described do exist, they might be a sort of "imprint" sort of thing... kind of like a person or event leaving a photo on the film of reality. I'm not sure I believe it's the actual dead person(s) in any way.

Mythical creatures: Apologies, but I think that things like dragons, fairies, giants, vampires, unicorns, etc. are simply perceptions of real creatures that have become exaggerrated over the centuries. Any possible creatures that inspired the ideas might still be a spectacle to behold, but I don't think they're really "magical" or anything, per se.

Magic, ESP, telepathy, etc.: I think that things like magic and "mental arts" and stuff like that might exist. There are many, many ways of manipulating the universe that we haven't come close to scientifically documenting yet... I don't find it unreasonable to think that some of those ways might involve humans being able to produce effects that at first glance seem "supernatural".

I guess you could boil my beliefs down to... I believe that "supernatural" things may very well exist. (Certainly I've seen many strange things I can't explain right off!)

However, I think those supernatural things are simply the result of rules of the universe that we haven't discovered yet. I think that supernatural things exist *inside* an undiscovered subset of reality, not *outside* reality altogether, for lack of a better way to put it at the moment.

yeh, coz dont we only use like 9% of our brains? so who knows what we can unleash. maybe thats why psychics etc hav that power that the rest of us just dont understand![/glow]

I wanna say it might even be less than 2% of our brains that we fully use. Anyone else ever see the movie "Phenomenon" with John Travolta? That movie kind of explored what might happen and what we might be capable of if we were using *more* or even *all* of our brains.

I also think such mental powers might be possible, if we knew how to tap into them. Who knows what we could do with that other 90+% of our brains if we could?

Aliens... granted we've got no solid proof of anyone else out there now, but IIRC, haven't they recently found fossils of some kind on Mars? Which (if I'm right) proves that life *can* exist on other planets. Which gives that much more support to the idea that it *does*. Of course, this is probably slightly influenced by the fact I saw "Contact" this morning. ;)

Ghosts. I don't know. I've been in places that very much creeped me out for no explainable reason, a feeling echoed by others I was with. In the kind of solid, viewable forms, I don't think so; I know I've never seen one. But in the sense of being invisible, or maybe just a kind of dwelling of a spirit or imprinting an emotion on a place? I think that can happen.

Well, those fossils on Mars prove that carbon-based life can exist elsewhere.
There may be things that are biologically possible where life exists but does not consist of carbon.
(Ie: X-Files, finding Sulphur based plants)

As for all sorts of other things:
Ghosts/Paranormal:  Bollocks, even if I am scared of the dark. :D
Aliens: Yep.  Do I think they've ever visited Earth. Nope.
Supernatural Powers: Sort of.  As humans evolve, I believe we will be able to do more with our minds and bodies. (ie: athletes run faster, jump higher, etc.)  Manipulate the world around you without touching (telekinesis) Err...no.  Telepathy...yeah, possible.

I believe in "others" but prefer to not call them aliens.  If you think about it and there is other life out there, we are all just as "alien" as those we label as such.  One funny thing I like to think about in the whole scheme of life and a "higher being" is that there is one big board game each with a different title. Ours just happens to be called Earth.  I think there is someting greater that gets a kick out of looking down at us and watching us run through daily activities.  One example . . .when someone is walking  . . . say on a college campus . . . I think that is a dice rolled or a card drawn like in monopoly or something.  I would like to think that faeries are genuine, but I have no proof they do.  They are just really pretty!! As far as ghosts . . . I think there are spirits in all forms, shapes, sizes, and attitudes. How about them apples??? ;P

B'rrr

:'( :'( :'( I'm boring!! I only believe in things that can be explained!!

....but then again everyting can be explained...just not by me (or perhaps not even by other humans ; )

Questing Character

I believe in ghosts.  Had a few encounters that I don't think can otherwise be explained.  I'll go into details another time, when I'm not about to eat dinner (because I'll get interrupted in the middle of one of the stories here and forget where I was or something).

I believe in aliens, just because its depressing to think humans are the only sentient beings in the WHOLE universe.

As far as legends go, I believe in some.  I believe in the Jersey Devil, as I know someone who's seen it and also, far too many sightings not to (in my opinion).  I also believe in yetis (Bigfoot, Sasquatch, etc).  I mean, there's photographs of them from like...around the time people started taking pictures that weren't posed, so long before people could really edit them.  But others, I'm not sure about.  The Loch Ness Monster has like...four different appearances, for example.  But some pieces of evidence for it are fairly convincing.  So I really don't know.

As far as myths go...the only ones I really think I could put any stock in are dragons and phoenixes, and only because so many cultures shared beliefs in those.

ESP and things like that, I definitely believe in!!  It's my optimism though, really.  I like to think there's a lot of potential in the human mind....so...I think that's where it is.  Hidden abilities, like that. :)

Kimmie

well q, i definately wanna hear ur ghost encounters!...i think if i had a ghost encounter i would become a ghost lol!

I wanna say it might even be less than 2% of our brains that we fully use.

Now, where's that Jeysie were you need her? I had to search for this link she posted about the subject a while back:

http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/10percnt.htm

I don't believe in any of those things myself. Ghosts, afterlife, mythical creatures, magic and psychic abilities - as much as I enjoy stories & movies about them, I just don't believe they exist IRL.

As for aliens, I do believe they exist, that is, that life exist on other planets beside Earth. There are 1000's of billions of plantes in the universe, odds are life have evolved in more than just one of them ;)
As for aliens visiting Earth and conspiracy theorys regarding them - That's another thing I enjoy watching on screen, without believing it actually happens. Even if some advanced alien race could cross the vast reaches of space and come to earth, I hardly think they'll make such an effort just so they can draw some crop circles, preform anal probings and enjoy a good cattle mutilation :P

Q and all others who had a paranormal experience/encounter - excuse me if I don't take your testimony as proof positive. Such fantastic claims should be supported by more than someone else's say so. I might believe these things exist if something like that happened to me personally... strange that it never did  ::)

i need to know how much of our brains we use coz i used it in an essay as we were told it was 9% and it would be helpful to know the correct amount so i can use it in my exam  :)

I heard it was 10%, but only geniuses actually make it to the 10% level.  ;P

I stand corrected, then. Hey, I did I *thought* it was 2 but wasn't sure! Apparentally we've up'd the percentage since I last chedked. ;)

Storm, it somehow doens't surprise me you don't buy into that stuff at all.  ;B

If you want to get technical, we use *all* of our brains at some point, we just don't use all of it at the same time. How much of your brain you use at a given time depends on what you're doing. (I.E., each part of the brain is best suited to a given set of activities, so how much you're using depends on what activities your task is made up of. Or something like that.)

I'm officially a smart-ass again. Whee. :P

Of course, just because every part of the brain gets used at some point, doesn't necessarily mean that we know what every part does. ;)
