I agree, lies can be dangerous, even white lies. Best just to let everyone know the ugly truth and get it over with. ;) So what if your kid gets upset that Santa Claus isn't real. ;)

I'm almost always honest... even when I probably shouldn't be. :P

Lies have their place... but only when the truth would be more harmful than the lie (which IMHO is very seldom). Even then, I'd be more likely to just omit part of the truth, than I would to outright lie.

* Jeysie is reminded of the movie "Liar, Liar".

Being a really truthful person, I find it really hard to lie.  Of course, I can do it, but depending on how elaborate it is, the sick feeling in my stomach gets worse and worse. :S

Omission of information is fine, but when ya start misleading people by conjuring up stories and outright contradictions to the truth... that's when it starts getting out of hand.   ::)

Heh, I've been keeping a secret from my family for a few months and revealed it a couple weeks ago.  It was seriously such a relief to stop lying to em.  The sad part is I still have to keep up this lie and many others to other people, until the time is right.  Kinda hard to explain really, but it's all for the best.

I so wonder how people can be patholigical liars... do they have no conscience?  :o

I try not to lie, thats all i can. i never lie intentionally but if i think something is the ruth and i say it and it turned out not then what i said earlier was a lie... right?

...still not intentionally. lol, but i rather be a nice honest person then an 'a******'. even if the truth is ugly there is no need for me to act like an 'a******'. but i agree it would be better to be honest and an 'a******' then to be sweet and lie.

*reads last post again* :o :o

Bushie!! Santa Claus doesn't exist!!  :o :'( :'(

btw an exception is (ie. situation that i lie intentionally) when i am with friends and we are teasing each other but they know i don't mean it, lol they only have to look at my face to see a big smile, hahahaha, i am so bad in lying  ;-D ...i never try that online though for the sole reason that they can't see it if i mean it  :-\

Just depends on who im talking to, if i dont like the person I can lie and they would never be able to tell the diffrence but if im actually talking to someone i care about than that damn little voice in my head wont leave me alone.

yet again i just did this massive post and it got rid of it so i wil hav to cut it down.

supposing one of your best friends has been playing round trying to get a prom dress.
you go round to her house and she says look at this...and she puts on this stunning dress and lets just say it doesnt look as stunning as you thought it would be.
you know that rule where u buy a size bigger so it doesnt show every lump and bump...she hasnt. she is a skinny moo without any flab, but the dress is too tight.

would u tell her the truth and make her depressed coz she hasnt got time to get another dress or hold you smile and say its stunning!?!

sometimes white lie prevent ppl gettin hurt.

Yonkey

Yeah, I'd probably say it's stunning.  Maybe the tight-look was what she's going for?  XD

Plus, it's more important for your friend to feel happy and secsay on her prom day, than to think her best friend hates her and/or her dress.

precisely..so lies are sometimes good...but im not promoting them lol

Yonkey

lol, yeah.  That was a nice example of when the truth itself might be worse than lying, IMO.  I don't think it makes you an immoral person, it just means you have to look at the overall picture sometimes and decide if the truth is really worth telling if its consequences are worse than lying.  :)

well you could just say that the dress is stunning, and don't mention the part that it doesn't look good on her  ;-D

hahahaha, i know several occasions when a good friend of my asked me if i liked her hair/cloth/whatever and i just said it looked 'different' (lol, she could laugh at my attempt not to hurt her but also telling the truth ; )
