Honestly, I bet George Lucas wishes he had Bioware's fanbase right now.  He would have to work so much less if it was the fans demanding to pay for "improved" versions of his movies.  Really I think Retake Mass Effect would be so much happier if Lucas took over Mass Effect, he could fix everything!

The development team today DOES agree that someone should have spoken out against George since many people had issues with George's direction. But in the competitive industry back then, telling off the then-immortal George Lucas in the middle of a brand-new Star Wars movie would have seemed like career suicide. Much like with "Mass Effect 3", developers had to respect the hierarchy or get replaced by the thousands of other less-opinionated people clamoring for the job.

Although I find it funny that people have somehow gone from protesting George's changes to begging for changes from someone else. Hypocrisy has come full circle. Now the fans are the new George Lucases.

Wow.  What a bullshit statement.

George Lucas took something that wasn't broke, was unarguably good, and shat upon it with a bunch of retcons that soured the originals.  Fans hated it.

Bioware ALSO took something that wasn't broke, was unarguably good, and shat upon it with a bunch of retcons that soured the originals.  Fans hated it.  The difference is that this time fans have an argument about the medium being interactive and have more leverage to get positive changes made, or at least to make a solid case for them.

Bioware is the George Lucas in this scenario, and the original Trilogy is Mass Effect 1 and 2 (and most of 3.)  The ending of ME3 is the Special Editions & Prequels all rolled into one, except with more Jar Jar.

1. Unarguably good, hardly.  I love Mass Effect but the series has always had issues they could never quite resolve.
2. What retcons?
3. Some fans.  Granted they are vocal, but that hardly means the ending is doomed to mediocrity.

Gameplay issues, certainly, but the story and writing has, for the most part, been pretty much universally praised.

Retcon perhaps wasn't the right word--contradictions of character, abandonment of core themes, and some seemingly overlooked facts of the established universe (the explosions of the Mass Relays wiping out the surrounding systems in a supernova being the most blatant) are what I was referring to.  I'm not sure what all encompassing term one would use to describe those things.  "Bullshit" comes to mind though.  ;)

What would you expect in terms of encompassing all of the themes in the last few moments? What series does that? Again most Mass Effect 3 is basically major problems from the series ending.
The most powerful moments in the game, Tuchanka and Rannoch, are that way because they are the climax to huge parts of the series.

I think the majority of the game hit the nail on the head, but the ending assumes that every decision you have made to unite the galaxy is in vain. So basically, that pure Paragon run that you played will mean nothing cause the mass relays' explosions still isolates all of the races from themselves, and being a Renegade doesn't say much when everybody's Shepard damns the entire universe into a catastrophic state.

I know we've been over this argument again and again. I'm not going to change my opinion, but for the record, the majority of the game was good, but the ending ruined all of it. I also wish that Bioware doesn't fix the ending. Just out of principle, I think Mass Effect 3 should be a spectacle of what happens when a company believes they can get away with anything. Never in the entire history of entertainment, has somebody been let off the hook so much. When a movie sucks or a book fails to attain an audience, they don't get second chances. Sure they may try to reboot the series, which I would welcome Bioware to do so. But to have a second chance on the ending, they should be ashamed. Bioware, for their sake, better learn from this.
Looks like there will be a free "extended cut" that will bring some more closure.
If I had to guess they'll probably acknowledge some of the problems Lamb had with relays exploding.
Hopefully this will stop the people donating to a children's charity, then subsequently demanding their money back.

Who knows Cez, you just might like it. :P

Mass Effect 3 is still a phenomenal game, I don't think such passionate responses to the end would have occurred otherwise,  and since they aren't actually changing anything you probably don't have to wait until Summer.

Summer is only a few months from now.  Judging by how long it took you to play ME2, you might as well start now!  ;)
