Leisure Suit Larry reboot by Al Lowe via kickstarter
« on: April 02, 2012, 07:05:41 PM »
so I signed up for Kens website ages ago and today  just now in fact i received this mail

In case you haven't heard, Replay Games has joined Al Lowe on a project to re-boot the classic Leisure Suit Larry franchise, and they could use your help with a contribution to the cause.
Leisure Suit Larry is getting its own kickstarter. Replay Games now owns the rights to Larry, and is behind the push to remake the original Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. The idea is to give gamers a "return to the one true Larry."  Here's the Leisure Suit Larry kickstarter link.
Loyalty (and cash) will be rewarded with a suite of interesting items, up to having your name permanently included in the game as a secret password. That one will cost you 50k.
Leisure Suit Larry In the Land of The Lounge Lizards Reloaded is planned for iOS and PC, and will sport the following features, should the kickstarter campaign bear fruit (and half a million bucks.):
•   The freedom to play on mobile devices
•   A modern point-and-click/touchscreen interface
•   Updated, ultra-high res graphics
•   Fully voiced characters
•   Even more of the humor that’s made Al Lowe a household name…like “Borders” and “Enron”!
Best of all, the reload is being overseen by Al Lowe, the creator of the original Larry games (the good ones.)  Visit the Leisure Suit Larry kickstarter.

The images remind me of those old Humongous Entertainment games, I guess different demographic though.

It's interesting to see that even a remake can do so well on Kickstarter.  Adds yet another level of interest to the whole process.

I note the Kickstarter page says that they can't do anything without Codemaster's approval. Dunno why people'd thought Replay brought the IP when they'd only licensed it ala Telltale with King's Quest.

Have you guys read the rockpapershotgun interview with Al Lowe?  He talks about the other Sierra developers who are on board with the project, including Scott Murphy and Josh Mandel, and that they've even been talking to Ken and Roberta Williams.  It looks like the ultimate goal is to get the rights to several of the major Sierra classics, including Space and King's Quest and make remakes and potentially even new sequels WITH the original developers.  This could potentially be really amazing.  My mind is officially blown.  This project MUST be supported!

They could all form another developer, I wonder what mountain they would pick for a name?
